OT: track record of Head Coaches with no success in their first stint becoming successful in their second stint.

Off the top of my head, the examples I can think of are the old timers - Belichick, Carrol.

You could say Dan Campbell, but he was only an interim at Miami.
Depending on how we define "not successful", it would be tough to put him on this list. Never had a losing season. 1-2 in the postseason in three years.

Marv Levy was not that good in KC and obviously much better in Buffalo.

Shanahan with the Raiders wasn't good and he goes to Denver and the rest is history.

He always threw an interception at the worst possible moment.
He was definitely a huge reason they lost to the Bengals in 2021. He was never a "bad" QB. He just was not a guy that would make others around him better.

Vrabel finally has a franchise QB who can win lots of games without needing lots of support. It makes life easier.

Pete Carroll for sure. He went 6-10 in his only season with the Jets and was fired. He went to SF and was viewed as a top DC getting the job in NE. Had a winning record in NE, winning the division, going to the playoffs twice and winning one playoff while being handcuffed by injuries and bad management.

It is interesting to hear that Bob Kraft thought about hiring BB in 1997 as he lobbied for the job. BB was dragging his feet accepting the DC position in NY because he wanted to be the HC. I really like Pete Carrol, but I’ve always wondered how BB would’ve done with that team and fighting with management over Curtis Martin.

That doesnt mean much.

Look at the Falcons. After losing the superbowl they barely made the playoffs the following year and haven't had a winning record since.

Carrol inherited a team that had its HoF RB poached by the HC who left and tried taking everything with him.
Of course it means something. You trying to tell me that taking over a team that is fresh off a SB appearance is the same as taking over a team that just went 2-15?

Carrol in his 3 years with the Pats went to the playoffs twice and went 8-8 his last year. He was a winning HC.
He also coached the Jets….so he was bad, decent, great, and terrible in 4 stops.
