No one could have reasonably predicted that TB would still be this good at 43

I remember when Red kept the Big 3 intact and the Celtics were good but not serious championship contenders during their last few years. After they left the C's of the 90's were horrific and there were a lot of questions about if he should have traded them to expedite the rebuild.

I would have liked to keep Brady and see him retire as a Patriot but I understood that due to talent and cap situation they would not have been serious Super Bowl contenders. There are no guarantees that how BB handled it will result in success but they are certainly in much better cap shape in 2021 than they would have been if they tried to extend the run.

The 2019 Pats won 12 games with a 3 stooges WR corp and old Ben Watson for a TE.

Brady needed better WRs and TEs in a game where passing the ball is the road to the Super Bowl.

If you all remember last year Brady had problems with the deep ball, and it was often reported that he could not even practice for most of the season due to an elbow(?) issue, he wasn't even taking snaps at practice.. as much as our receivers and OC were suspect, A#12 shared in that as well. Whatever the reason, it seems to have resolved itself in the off season.

The adage that it is better to let a player go a year earlier rather than a year too late, is proven wrong in his case.

THIS is the issue right here.

It's one thing to go year to year with Brady IF you have Jimmy sitting behind him. Once Jimmy was traded it's all in on Brady. And bill never went all in and never even addressed the QB position behind him
This leads me to believe that BB was overconfident that Brady was going to stay no matter what. Why else would BB leave the Pats without a backup QB?

If there’s a one in a million exception to the rule about 43 year old QBs, Brady is it.

I hope the Pats aren’t still thinking like this as a reason to bring Cam back.

Yes...BB and Kraft made the wrong call and in retrospect should have extended him back in 2017. However it is completely understandable why they did not think placing a 25-20 million/year bet on a 43-44 you QB would be money well spent.

OK Tom and Alex Guerrero were right, but what Brady is doing is unprecedented and could not have been predicted. So everyone who wants to tear BB a new one should think twice.
Not true. Many of us predicted that he would have a great season and make a run for it. That’s because we have been paying attention and noticed that there had been no signs of physical deterioration in his game that come with age.

This was a moron move from the get go to push Brady away.

It makes 0 sense. It's not "let's move from favre to Rodgers"

It's hey let's move on from the GOAT to....nobody. then sign the ghost of cam newton for 1million.

I don't know if this is the right thread since Tom wasn't great in the NFCCG.

And with what money were the Pats going to pay Tom? The Pats had no cap space. It was time for both parties to move on and they did.
Was more about the coming years that lead to it than it was last year.

Thought Tom could still do it, but damn 40 touchdowns?

Jarrett Stidham :D :D :D
Don’t worry, he’s awesome. Surely there’s a good reason as to why he wouldn’t start a bunch of meaningless games end of the season with a lame duck QB.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

BB is the one who had to make a judgement call about the unknown future. He chose to draw a valuation line in the sand. Brady decided to move on.

That's all there is to it. Neither of them burned a bridge with the other.

He wouldn't have been "this good" with the players he had around him on the Patriots this year. The Buc's had better weapons and then loaded up so he could be "this good" this year. The Patriots were not in the position to load up.

Tampa Bay predicted it though.

I said at the beginning Brady would do well this year. Didn’t see his team making the SB or Brady doing 40 TD passes type of well. Here we are.

Bingo! We've got Bingo!

He wouldn’t, but it’s exceedingly clear that we had no answers for replacing him. And considering we went 7-9, there a real chance he can bring in 2 or 3 close games and give us a playoff appearance. And since we were going to have cap anyways, might as well have just paid Tom Brady 25 million next year and added pieces than gamble on a rookie OR pay a lesser QB the same or more

We had Stidham if we only gave him a chance :D

That's a separate topic and not the thread topic.
