This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Do you guys think that BB's poor drafting of WRs hastened the exit of Tom Brady? Brady certainly has a way better set of receivers in Tampa Bay right now, like night and day.
I think if Bill drafted Chubb over Sony and AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Deebo Samuel, or even Mecole Hartman over Harry there is a solid chance Brady would still be here.

You realize of course you're making no sense here. Belichick is flat out overrated due to his association with Brady. But to say he's a great GM is preposterous. The Patriots have the third best roster in their division. Up against the entire NFL, they're bottom half roster-wise which directly correlates with Belichick's drafts that have only gotten worse in recent years. And how do you propose they have any future at all if you're avoiding three of the most important positions? Blaming McDaniels for bad returns on high draft picks, that's next level Belichick ass-kissing.

we disagree here, i think his drafts have been borderline criminal bad since like 2014 or so, but last years draft and this year's is shaping up to be a good one

I don't blame Bill taking Sony as he was mostly rated the 2nd best back on the board. If I'm going to fault him for taking random guys before where they were projected to be taken, I can't say Chubb should've been taken over Sony. Chubb had some questions coming out in terms of catching the ball and BB was trying to get away from the one dimensional back. However, I thought for sure Metcalf was going to be the choice over Harry. in fact, the first 3 rounds should've been devoted to offense as Bill shouldn't have relied on one WR alone. And depending on how that went, this draft should've been offense for the first two rounds. That and Brown not being released, Brady's probably still here.

Aside from Harris and Onwenu, the rest are complementary players at best. Nobody else stands out with major potential moving forward and Winovich has massively regressed.

And what also sucks is that the Patriots are going to go into the 2021 draft with a desperate need at WR...will they screw it up yet again? You would think that the BB would learn from his mistakes, but it does not seem to be the case for WR picks.

I think that issue will be solved with a veteran. Either through FA or a trade.

I don't trust him in the draft and his first pick will probably be a DB. But if Bill throws out a bunch of money (unlikely), he may get someone in FA. Aside from that, who would want to sign there? I don't see who would be available for a trade.

Sure Belichick might draft a DB in the first round. Even assuming that we sign Jackson, the following could be gone: Gilmore, JMac, DMac and Chung.

Why would Gilmore be gone?
JMac leaving doesn't warrant drafting DB with a high pick.
Why would they get rid of DMac?
Chung is already gone.

This defense has given up 200+ rushing yards in multiple games. We have to go defense in the first round. That plus it saves us from another bust special from our OC who has zero talent eval skills.

bb has to stay true to his board and take the best athlete available in the first round!

chances are that receivers smith, waddle, Pitt’s and chase are all off the board by the time we pick.

same for Lawrence, fields, Wilson, parsons, Sewell, surtain, Farley and paye!

at that point, bb needs to go with whoever is top of his board or trade back! Drafting for need is a recipe for disaster!

Comparing rosters in the division is kind of silly. Since 2015, Jets, for example, have had pick 6, 20, 3, 3, 6, 11,and 27 in the first round.
Pats have had 32, 29 (forfeited), 83 (3rd round), 23 and 31, 32, 37.

Those are just 1st picks. It follows that rotation, you know.

That's kind of the price of victory, plus selling out a #1 to get a receiver in here, plus getting hit with ridiculous penalties by Goodell.

The NFL isn't built for teams to retain top rosters.

But so you know I'm not just being a homer here, yeah, I agree that the last few drafts have really sucked in WR and TE. they've spent almost no capital, and when they did, they got a guy who doesn't even fit the way they run their offense (Harry), instead of one of two guys who beautifully fit their scheme (AJ Brown and Deebo)...and they could have had Metcalf, too, instead of a DB, and could have had Hunter Renfrow instead of an OL who isn't even here anymore.

I hear you. I see it as not reaching for a specific need. Among DE, DT, MLB, OLB, FS, OT, and OG, there are plenty of positions that make sense with our first round pick. And these are positions I trust our draft process . Just stay away from any other position that would be tainted with terrible evals from the offensive coordinator, like offensive skill positions.

That's not a great argument. Other top teams like the Steelers and Chiefs have been able to find talent at the end of the first round. It's just that BB chooses not to pick them or to trade down and out of the first round.

And DB picks too.

What about Thuney, Mason, JC, Jake Bailey, Wino, Butler, Dugger, Gunner, Andrews, Uche, Wynne, Myers, Jonathan Jones...have there been misses, sure, but for always picking at the bottom of the rounds, I think there is some young talent to build on. We need a qb, two front 7 players and a big time wr, and we will be really good next year...Let's give our young tight ends some time....I also like. what I see from JJ Taylor.
