Content Post N'Keal Harry (lack of) Progress Report

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

It's not dumb luck. He has a specific scouting method looking for guys who take care of the ball, are leaders, etc. He kept 4 QBs on the roster which was unheard of. Beyond QBs he's found undrafted players be pro bowlers at CB , guard, receiver, etc. It's not luck when he keeps finding gems out of garbage.
Trying to sound like an insider doesn't make you right. So you're saying Belichick spent significant scouting capital on a 6th round pick? And he picked the leader for his team in the 6th round? Like you couldn't make up a more ridiculous argument. Belichick took a friggin kicker in the 5th round last year. Where's that bum now? I suppose had he made the team he would have had a large C on his jersey and making pregame speeches.

The ball was suppose to be to the sideline and Cam throws it high and inside. Try to run towards the sidelines, stop, and then jump back and out to the inside and see how high off the ground you get.

Ridiculous take.
If the pass was intended to be caught over Harry's back shoulder, then it wasn't a well-thrown ball...But it was still catchable IMO.

We can agree the ball was thrown behind Harry? Harry was reaching back? Noone plans to throw the ball to the inside where the defender is trailing the receiver? Right?

So it was a poorly thrown ball that Harry could have caught? OK, if that is the argument you have to see if Harry was coming out of his break or not, how far it was behind him, when he was able to first see the ball, etc.

Clearly it is not a situation where Harry is unathletic and can not jump and that is why he missed it.

Harry made those plays all the time in college. We see NFL-caliber receivers make those plays every single game at this level. Harry could not. Did he get his fingertips on it? Yes or no?

Not a good sign when every time it's thrown to Harry the expectation is it's not going to be a successful play. Not sure where this guy fits. His best move is once a game catch a 50% chance jump ball. Hard to plan an offense around this.

You nailed it. You can’t plan an offence around 50/50 jump balls. You need a guy who can run a route, get open, catch the ball, move the chains, do it again,.... He can’t beat man coverage which is what we are seeing a lot of. He did well against the Seattle Cover 3 zone but teams have learned they can shut us down playing man to man.

The real question is what is his spot moving forward? Meyers is firmly ahead of him now. You have to think Bill will look at the FA market and potentially draft another WR. Where does that put Harry? Likely 4th or lower on the depth chart.

I think with a bona-fide wr1 Harry could be a decent to good wr 2/3 with Meyers. He is not a WR 1. That i will agree. But getting him cut without having a quarterback is not on. Let's wait for one more season and try to get a decent wr 1

. I am hoping we get lucky with stidham and Kyle Pitts falls to us. And all we would need is to add a edge defender, nose tackle and a mid range cornerback.

Sure Harry irretrievably sucks but the real issue is Belichick sucks as a roster builder and BELICHICK is particularly sucky at drafting wide receivers. Seriously has the clown ever drafted WR that made a pro bowl? I think not.

His drafting of WRs has been atrocious, but to refer to Belichick as a clown? Yikes.

Harry is a bust. Horrible player and pick so far. He will get extra rope for being a 1st rounder, but he’s using that up quickly...

I think the Stidham dream is over. If he was the answer he would have been starting a long time ago. Cam has been the worst starter in the league and Bill still won’t put Stidham in. When Cam missed a game he put Hoyer in.

Belichick is one of the best GMs of all time except for a screwed up system from McDaniels for WR/CB high picks. Just avoid high picks at WR, CB, QB, anything McDaniels ever touched. Spend our high picks at DT, DE, LB, OLine, safety.

That's a sorry excuse. If he is a great GM he should be able to recognize that his scout or McDaniels is full of ****.

Certain positions have been comically bad for us in the draft and there have been plenty of questionable picks with guys who would be available much much later. There is no arguing against this. Just burning draft capital thinking that you know something the other guy doesn't. Arrogance.

As far as N'Keal goes. Get him out of here. He doesn't have NFL level tools.

It's a solvable solution when you realize most of the bad high draft picks have a common source. We've been very good at drafting DE, DT, LB, OLine especially with high picks.

You realize of course you're making no sense here. Belichick is flat out overrated due to his association with Brady. But to say he's a great GM is preposterous. The Patriots have the third best roster in their division. Up against the entire NFL, they're bottom half roster-wise which directly correlates with Belichick's drafts that have only gotten worse in recent years. And how do you propose they have any future at all if you're avoiding three of the most important positions? Blaming McDaniels for bad returns on high draft picks, that's next level Belichick ass-kissing.

Even if what you said is true, you do realize that you are saying Belichick is an idiot for taking this hypothetical advice from McDaniels on picks when it has not worked time after time, year after year?

Yea BB's flaw is he listens to his staff and gives them a lot of decision making influence on the game plan and personnel. Not really a flaw. I was also upset when in the past we would run the weak Dean Pees defense with corners 10 yards back every play, for years. This time we need a change in OC. Bring back Bill O'Brien

I like Kontra's H-back idea. Possibly a good redzone target. But for him to do that you need an accurate passer. Back shoulder passes that end up on his front shoulder won't work.

Do you guys think that BB's poor drafting of WRs hastened the exit of Tom Brady? Brady certainly has a way better set of receivers in Tampa Bay right now, like night and day.
Fred, I think you might be on to something here.
