Ninko has a blood clot in his leg

I had an auxillary subclavian thrombosis years ago...clots aren't anything to play with. I'm surprised that they're okay with him to play with. It must not be as serious as mine was because I was in the ICU for 3 weeks.

Your situation and Bosh's were a form of DVT and require blood thinner treatment. Nink's was a large collection of blood in his calf resulting from trauma. Blood thinners would be contraindicated. The "clot" got infected causing the awful wound. It takes a LONG time to resolve, but as he is not on blood thinners he can play.

The clot is not a DVT like Bosh - it is a hematoma from trauma that got infected - can take a long time to resolve. He does not need blood thinners like Bosh, and thus can play. It is not in the veins and will not go to his lungs.

Hope you're right. But Ninko did say: " I still have a blood clot in my leg right now. So I hope that it doesn’t travel."

Presumably if he has what you're talking about his doctors would have told him he doesn't need to worry about it traveling. Though of course he could be worrying anyways. 1/2

I hope he's extra careful with this, or has someone monitoring him fairly closely.

According to my Cardiologist, I had small clots for that led to heart failure, and open heart surgery. Not fun at all. I definitely pay more attention to my body these days.

Great information here. I was thinking it was a hematoma because if it goes back to last year, a DVT still wouldn't be present. Plus being on "blood thinners" would pose a problem with playing football at times. I work in peds so I am just not that familiar with this particular subject but I feel like going back and referencing some old textbooks.

That's a characteristic of sarcoidosis. I'd bet that's what Nink has.

It's Lupus

Now that we are using the encyclopedia of medical conditions that is House MD to diagnose NFL medical conditions, here's one that might help us understand why Jets' fans are so difficult to understand at times:

Chimerism
In the third season of House, the infamous doctor meets a 7-year-old who’s been admitted to the hospital with rectal bleeding and hallucinations that he is being tortured by aliens. Clancy, who was conceived through in-vitro fertilization, has conflicting results on multiple bleeding tests. House and his team then realize the boy has cells with a different type of DNA in his body, leading House to diagnose Clancy with chimerism – a condition in which there are two sets of DNA in one body – due to Clancy’s twin brother merging with him in the womb.

Football players are crazy. Does he have kids? If he does, I hope he retires, we will get over him retiring, his kids wont get over daddy dying. This statement was brought to you by someone whow knows nothing, and likes making posts based on emotions and not facts.

Why cant they remove the clot?

Ninko says that he" hopes the clot doesnt travel", so there must be some risk here.

The risk of removing the hematoma is much greater than letting it resolve on its own - i.e. further bleeding and infection. As to the part about it traveling, I think that is just Nink speaking and not the actual medical situation. If he had a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) he would be on blood thinner and he would not be allowed to play, period, no questions asked. It does not appear that he was on blood thinner at any point because he did not miss time (and the minimum time to be on blood thinner would be several months).

Feel better Ninko

Thanks for the explanation.

Infections are nothing to mess with these with some antibiotics losing their strength.

Important to understand from a public policy standpoint: antibiotics are actually getting stronger. There are dozens of labs around the world working on creating new ones, and in some cases, succeeding.

They are falling behind the strength being gained by bacteria, however.

A professor that I worked for several years ago was concerned about bacterial soaps. He told me for years simple bar soap and hot water was enough to battle bacteria pretty successfully. He stated that the bacteria would eventually acclimate to the bacterial soaps and that they would gain strength.

And, recent studies (i.e. actual research) has shown that they don't work any better than a warm water scrub with soap. They are entirely a waste of time, money, and do exactly as you mention - just make things worse.
The only place they have is for when water isn't available.

But arent some popular antibiotics becoming useless because of over use and some patients not taking all their medication?

I watched a story about a American who brought an Indian flesh eating bacteria back to Washington state IIRC. CRE. Doctors tried everything in the book, but the infection would not go away. The infection got in the air in the ICU ward and killed quite a few other patients.

100% true. Soap and water is enough to kill most everything. The anti-bacterial soap and the over-use of over-the counter anti-bacerial agents (for cuts and such) is is huge problem.
