Without having more of his medical details, it’s very difficult to speculate on his prognosis and on whether he needs to stay on blood thinners for a fixed period of time or indefinitely. A big part of this depends on whether he has other risk factors for blood clots. If he has other risk factors, he may need to be on blood thinners for a very prolonged time years or even lifetime. However, in a best case scenario, which is where he only had blood clots in his leg and they did not travel to his lung and he has no other risk factors. Typically young healthier patients would only need to stay on blood thinners for 3 to 6 months. The bottom line is, we simply do not have enough information to assess whether he will come back and whether he will be able to accept the risk of playing football if he hast to stay on blood thinners.
The concern that I have is that after he returned to play in November, something else happened that caused him to remove himself from playing. We have no idea why he decided to stop playing, and this might indicate some type of concern about recurrent blood clots or him needing to go back on blood thinners. Overall, I would say that his return remains a huge question mark for upcoming season

IF they Draft DE Abdul Carter: it could mean good news on the C Barmore front.

Barmore should have been shut down for the entire season. While I appreciate his efforts to make a come back, his long term health is much more important than playing this year was.

Are there really no athletes playing while they take blood thinners? I have known many, many people who take blood thinners for most of their lives. Isn't the issue whether he can rebuild his strength?

It seems that there are other complications.

Is there any idea if he is back on the blood thinners now or if they just had him stop playing due to symptoms returning? Im guessing if he was having symptoms theyd restart therapy but not sure

Any bruise he gets could become an serious issue, from my limited experience and knowledge anyway.

That was my understanding as well.

Not sure it's the same as Andrews who had clots in his lungs....but he returned without restrictions.

Absolutely.

And I don't care if the doctors say it didn't matter.

Still made no sense.

Just another blunder under Mayo... Barmore should have never been allowed to return no matter how good he felt. Andrews had to sit out the entire season with ordeal.

Why blame Mayo? Hes not a doctor. His situation is on the training and medical staff.

Barmore was cleared to play. I'm sure they administered blood and imaging tests frequently and when his results came back unfavorable they put him back on the BT protocol/changed his med/dosage.

As long as his life and career were not in danger, letting him play was prudent.

While on anti coagulants contact sports are generally not recommended. For example trauma to spleen or liver while on blood thinners could lead to serious internal bleeding

Mayo was the HC.. so let me ask you this? If Andrews who went through the same thing was cleared by medical doctors, and has his ramp up time and wasn't performing up to his capabilities like Barmore did does bill play Andrews???.

Like Bill used to say sometime you have to protect the player from themselves! Because he felt good enough or was "cleared " to play doesn't mean a player "should " especially with the some thing like that.

Correct, andrews clots had traveled to the lungs which made it much more serious and they completely ruled his season out from the start. Hopefully Barmore returning didn’t set him back
