NFL Week 16 Odds, Predictions and Picks Against the Spread

John Morgan

Week 16 is unique, with neither Thursday nor Sunday night football - but with two games on Monday. Five teams have clinched a playoff spot and 14 others are still in contention for the post-season. There are plenty of intriguing games worth watching this weekend and next before the playoffs commence. The theory of home field advantage will be put to a test during these three days. Road teams are favored in ten of the sixteen games this week.

There is another oddity about this week's schedule. Of the four games between teams with winning records, none are on in prime time - and three are broadcast in the early time slot. Fox has always had an affinity for NFC East teams due to their large market sizes. But if the network is not going to make the best game of the week (Falcons at Saints) their showcase game, then give it up to be flexed to Saturday night. Net result is that the two best games (NO-Atl and Patriots-Bills) are on at the same time. Those two back-to-back would have made for superior programming.

Two Saturday games.

First is Colts at Baltimore, which, if you are old enough, sounds strange.

Preview from Indy: Colts vs. Ravens: I think the Colts younger players will get more playing time

1. I think the Ravens’ D will feast on the Colts’ struggling offense.

What else is new? Indy’s porous unit is dead last in the league in yards per play, 30th in passing yards, 31st in red zone efficiency and 31st in points. The Colts are converting just 24 percent of their third downs this year, tied for worst in the NFL, and have averaged only 15.1 points per game since Week 8, second-worst in football, when the offensive struggles really began to sink the season.

This all spells trouble, especially against a Ravens’ defense that leads the league in turnover differential and boasts a back end that’s exceptional at taking the ball away. Can the Colts score consistently? Probably not.

Can they score at all? Maybe that’s the better question.

2. I think it’s time Jacoby Brissett snaps out of his funk.

Speaking of struggling offenses, Brissett’s play has severely leveled off in the second half of the season, giving the team no chance to win consistently. His completion percentage has dipped into the 50s in five straight games, and he’s thrown just three touchdowns across that span. ...

Preview from Baltimore: Ravens Gameday: What you need to know going into today's game against Colts

Scouting report for Saturday's Ravens-Colts matchup at M&T Bank Stadium

PREDICTION: The Colts’ habit of taking leads and being in most games should have the Ravens on high alert, but beyond Hilton, Indianapolis doesn’t have a lot of healthy high-end talent to scare teams. The Colts have been especially worn out up front on both sides of the ball, and that bodes well for the Ravens to dominate this game physically. At this time of the year, there will always be some level of angst, but a home game against a battered team playing out the string should be treated as an early Christmas gift. Ravens, 27-13

Would like to see the dolts put up a fight in this game but I doubt it very much.

Imagine if the Ravens make the playoffs? Most of the gameday thread all-stars would drown in their own piss...

They will make the playoffs but idk how they get past the jags.

If the Colts only had a more clutch kicker...

Imagine 2-6pm radio on 98.5.

"Ravens are not afraid to play YOU at YOUR stadium!!"

Kill me now.

Frank Gore still running like he did a decade ago. No wonder he's getting up there in yardage.

Colts look good in the first half almost every week and fall apart in the 2nd half, probably still lose by 14+

The ref is more exciting than the announcers - they really suck.

Vinatieri missed from 60, but would have been good from 58.

Regards,
Chris

balt not impressive...no worries there

And the snap was terrible. The Colts just cost him a $500,000 bonus by making him attempt a 60 yarder in bad weather. Damn.

He did have the wind in his favor, though. What was the bonus terms?

2nd half rain and wind looks horrible.

Vinatieri with the 48yd hook for 3!

Regards,
Chris

Brissett is less than average - touch and accuracy are lacking at this point in his career.
