They're not saying that. They're saying that we are still in year one of a rebuild, albeit one that is well in advance of expectations, and there's no point in sabotaging that rebuild for the sake of half season reclamation projects.
Someone posted to me at the weekend about all the people the Patriots need to replace in the coming two years: Hooper, Henry, Chaisson, Hawkins, Tonga, Moses, Onwenu, three of our linebackers, Pop, maybe Boutte, Bradbury to name more than a few. It's not as though the rebuild is complete. The more picks they have, the better they can accomplish that. Sacrificing those picks for rentals that probably don't move the needle outside of depth makes the rebuild harder.
I'm sure they had targets, some of whom probably weren't traded to us because they're in the division. On some, they probably balked at the price. That happens.
Right on the money. Vrabel isn't sending a message that he's giving up on the season, he's sending the message that he believes in this team,
