Pats have about $0.5M in cap space. Not even enough to sign their top 2 draft picks.

I know, I know, they can create a billion $$ in cap space whenever they want. Yet, they haven't. Why is that?

It's doubtful they sign 3 more veteran FAs. I think after listening to Kraft, this is it. We're going w/ exist. D players and hopeful guys that never played & other under utilized young players, will step up.

At this point, Thornton is already looking up at 4 WR's who have the inside track with NFL experience. Meaning if you add OBJ, someone else has to go, or you've basically guaranteed that Thornton is a redshirt this year. Right now everyone (assuming they work out) slots fairly nicely into set roles. I think there's better ways to use money than adding another WR right now, especially with Henry eating a number of targets as well.

Not to mention they've made it clear they gotta get Jonnu Smith more involved. I think he is part of why they ditched the FB completely. Throw him in there as an H-Back coming out of the backfield

Dude is ELITE at YAC

I would love to see more from Uche...Perkings is a unknown he shouldn't be in any conversation until we see something. If I'm a betting man I'm taking that Miami's pass rush right now and it's not even close.
.
Cousins, If we are honest on this forum, we have simply not done enough this year. It's true, the "on-paper" additions to the AFC East look formidable and who knows, but at least they are on the starting line and we have not even taken off our warm-up clothes.

OK.....A fruit bowl with grapes, blackberries and banannas. Then a veggie omlette with sharp cheddar cheese, link sausages and a piece (.........and a half! shhh) of blueberry buckle cake. Plus orange juice and hazelnut flavored coffee. Have to watch it. I see my heart Doctor Thurs!

We are relying on "definite-maybes" in Wise, Jennings, Uche, Perkins. McGrone and for that mater, Bentley. You have a few back-ups sprinkled in. I think BB will run a hybrid defense with Phillips, Dugger and Peppers getting the majority of LB snaps. That is how he will address the lack of speed issue.

I say nyet to the "Patriots Tomb of the Unknown Defenders". We are in trouble unless the phones start working in Foxborough and our new personnel department decides to get off their arses. These few names have the BB desired QB pressure numbers as well.

You have players available that have proven run stop ability and a player like Clowney can wreck a game.

Clelin
is surely better than Wise. Josh is in trading mode.

Flowers looks like he might be done especially for 2022 so I am not counting on him. Matt P. knows what he has left.

Can former Bear's 325lb NT Eddie Goldman at only 28 years old be needing a scenery change to Foxborough to resurrect his game like the 2017-2018 version and be better than Godchaux?

Can Suh have another productive year left? In the last two years he has had 32 QB hits and 12 sacks. He still plays at a high level at 35. Lawrence Guy has been good but seems to be fading and he's 32.

Anthony Barr
anyone? 4 time Pro Bowler still only 30. 72 Tackles , 5 PD and 3 INT's in 2021. He can still cover. He seems to me like a Junior Seau pick up. Not a liability like Bentley and from what I have seen of Jennings, in coverage where we got killed last year..

All my chips are on the table for Clowney if I had to pick one. Picture he and Judon?

Thoughts?

It's over Cousin.

I think we only have 86 (?) guys signed. Might be over, but might not. Not sure Judon knows everything.
Yea, now comes the endless cycle of releasing and re-hiring players that clear waivers and picking up scraps off teams releasing players.

I have a strong belief Flowers is on the way. I hope they also sign either Shelton, Hicks, Suh or Clowney. But I have this tee'd up just in case...

I think that happens predominately at the end of the summer, not at the beginning.

I've been screaming for Clowney & Hicks for over a month. I just don't see it happening. It just seems Kraft is intent on not moving any more $$ into 2023. We'll see but I'm not hopeful.

It would be great, and like you say the 2022 cap hit can be low, but 2023 and onwards would be higher. I hope it happens. I am hoping we are only at 86 signed players and did not really address the DLine in the draft because we intend to sign a few guys who know the system like Flowers and Hicks.

Cousin,
We did not do enough. Let's not "homer-boy" or sugar coat this. The "definite-maybes" the Team is crossing it's fingers on ........are......definite maybes.
There is talent out there that can win one or two games for the Patriots. That is how I address needed roster adds. Can they help win a game or two? There is no excuse for the front office. Not to blow smake up all of your arses but there are people on this forum who can make JUST as an intelligent choice as any ridiculously paid front office personnel folks, to add some players to make a difference from a decent list still available or........do they in the F.O. hope they are still available this summer. What would you do PatsFans.com GMs?

We've named them in case for the new crew down there. Clowney, Hicks, Ferrell, Suh even Flowers but I smell an injury not disclosed on Trey. How about at OLB? Pass coverage? One of the best is still out there in Anthony Barr (the Cowboys have interest). he had like 5 PBUs and 3 INTS and 72 Tackles to go along with 3 sacks and 8 QB pressures.. You want Barr or Bentley covering a TE or a back on a wheel route?

Think Clowney and Judon and tell me our defense would not be better with this pairing.

Why do the Pats always make it hard for themselves either in the Draft or obtaining name talent.? Seems like the Rams put their chips on the table for some of this talent, CAP be damned. So did the Chiefs........... and it has worked well for those organizations. Ego in being the smartest in the room never works in sports or politics.

Think if the Pats did NOT trade down in this Draft and took the players where they were supposed to have picked. The first three rounds would have been: McDuffie #21, Sky Moore#54 and Marcus Jones #85. Anybody say this is not more appealing?

Said my sermon, so there!

Cousin, are you serious? Come on man!!! How can you say "Think if the Pats did NOT trade down" and then leave out all of the benefits of the trade? Too funny. Of course the trade down looks weak if the additional picks, #121, #137, and Carolina's 2023 3rd rounder, are ignored. WOW! After the trade down we end up with 6 players instead of 3, but you only compare three of our six picks.

Brilliant move but you forgot that I ate my breakfast today, two eggs Hollandaise with extra sauce, Texas style cinnamon french toast with Canadian dark maple syrup, Maine potatoes diced and roasted with last night's prime rib gravy, thick cut hickory smoked bacon fried crispy, french vanilla double expresso, and all prepared by two of my favorite Asian cooks.

Hopefully, Bill trades Tavai to anyone (incl. the Jete). Dude sucks.

A lot more than 2 Pats FA remaining..

They forgot the following:

Alex Redmond - OG
De'Vante Bausby - DB
DJ Daniel - DB
Sean Davis - S
Matt LaCosse - TE
LaRoy Reynolds - LB
Jaylen Smith -TE

Rumors have it that Suh and Clowney are signing with the Browns.

The patriots don't see the need to secure cap space until they need it. It is really just that simple.

They can agree to a contract with anyone and find the cap money, even for all three plus draftees and the rest of the costs.

This is laughable. You actually think you or other PatsFans posters are qualified to be GMs? Don't be ridiculous.
