If this happens (S in Rd1), people are gonna lose their sh!t.

Imo, Hill is the only one worthy of being picked that high. If the Pats go in that direction they better be trading back. Booth was a lot more intriguing before I read he needs sports hernia surgery so he might miss some time.

I'd still rather have Booth.

While I'm a huge DK fan, all I needed to see was the $25MM figure to know the Pats aren't going to trade for him. I can't imagine the Pats every paying a receiving that much (even if they had the cap space). Bill is looking for players who can sign with good value on below market deals not $25 MM receivers imo.

Found it from this Next Pats podcast via Phil Perry last offseason when they had a joint practice with the Eagles:

The list for those who can't/don't want to watch, these are guys they practiced against in joints (year listed is the year the practice took place) that found their way to the Patriots over the next few years:

2010
Falcons - Michael Jenkins
Saints - Ramon Humbar, Will Smith

2011 - No joint practices.

2012
Bucs - Lagarrette Blount, Aqib Talib, EJ Biggers, Dakota Watson
Saints - Travaris Cadet, Akiem Hicks, Jonathan Casillas

2013
Eagles - Damarius Johnson, and Patrick Chung (if you count him)
Bucs - Tim Wright

2014
Eagles - Bradley Fletcher

2015
Saints - Brandin Cooks

2016
Bears - Rob Housler

2017
Jags - Luke Bowengo?
Texans - Eric Lee, Riley McCarron, Ufomba Kamalu, Eddie Pleasant, Stephen Anderson,

2018 - No Joint Practices

2019
Lions - Dee Virgin
Titans - Jonnu Smith

2020 - No preseason at all

2021 (not in the video)
Giants - Jabril Peppers
Eagles - TBD

Some of the names are (to be generous) very forgettable. But there are some standouts like Blount, Talib, Hicks, Cooks, and Jonnu.

Every position is about to get a lot richer with a new TV and gambling deal about to be signed. This is why teams are spending like drunken sailors.

The deals the Pats signed in 2021 which the negative nancy’s decried as overpayments already look like great value.
The deals were already signed. They just don't go into affect until 2023.

No they won’t because they value depth in receivers over top end talent.
It’s the system. Overspending on one player means you need to complete the position group cheaply or short another one. The model does not believe in sacrificing one position to beef up another and the offensive scheme relies on spreading the ball around. If you pay a WR 25 mill you need to get 1500 yards out of them. People mistakenly think that is additive, but it’s not. Spreading the targets between 5 players somewhat equally is the system rather than forcing the ball to 1 and reducing the other 4.

Which explains the insane spending spree happening now... where casual fans ignorant of the salary cap assume it doesn't exist.

This time in history is an outlier, not the norm. The cap goes up slightly every year, not to this degree.

With what Hill cost, I don't think that just the 10th overall pick will do.

But if the Jets end up ultimately trading Jamal Adams for DK Metcalf and a first and third, they won the trade. The Adams trade was one of the worst trades in NFL history. Two firsts and a third for a safety. Ridiculous.

With Arians gone, I wouldn't be shocked if Tampa signed him again. I wouldn't bet on it. But wouldn't be shocked.
I'm not sure anybody will. Besides he's a rapper now

He is probably done. But if Brady still likes the guy and wants him on the team, I can still see the outside possibility of it happening. But Russell Gage likely took his spot.

Arians isn't really gone though. He's still with the organization, and the new coach was in his staff and was hand picked by Arians.
