Come with proof - otherwise you are the same as those who claim the govt ordered the hit on Sandy Hook. STUPID - bring TRUTH or bring nothing.

I have thought this very same thing more than a few times.

Look at the Black Sox scandal a long time ago.

    Anything is possible.

College games are rigged all of the time.

The NHL is basically ran by the Russian mafia.

Why would football be any different?

The refs can change important plays in games. You would have to be naive, ignorant or blind to not see that.

I trust little and noone - until they build trust with me. I have my suspicions about the fixing of sports. I cannot prove it and when we get to the point of where we can prove it - damage done/can't do a thing about it. That is why I do not live/die with sports. I love watching a couple sports - I LOVE playing all of them - but I put LITTLE stock in today's athletes or the outcome of the games. I think that comes because of the little trust athletes have. All the discussion does is allow the snakes to crawl louder - if you get my drift. Until there is proof - noone REALLY cares.

Remember how we couldn't even keep our pointless sideline filming secret within our own organization? And how that blew up into one of the biggest football stories of the decade? Yeah now think about keeping a coordinated, league wide game fixing conspiracy secret. Not gonna happen.

Never underestimate the effects of incompetence. For instance did you know that NFL refs are not full time employees? It's crazy, but many of them hold regular jobs and on the weekends fly out and help determine the outcomes of games. Before assigning a conspiracy maybe think about how most NFL refs flat out suck, it makes a lot more sense.

If you want to see the refs "rig" a game just watch the Pats Denver playoff game in 2005. Or SuperBowl XL. However there was nothing in this game that would even suggest to me it was rigged. The Pats offense just didn't score. And that's it.

I'm going to ignore the ridiculousness of your evidence and focus on the ridiculousness of your motive.

Aside from the fact that Super Bowl ratings are off the scales no matter who is playing, you're foolish if you think the NFL would rather have had Baltimore instead of New England. The casual fan doesn't give a rat's behind about "Harbaugh versus Harbaugh" - more casual fans would be brought in by a marquee name like Tom Brady.

Not to mention the fact that so many people out there hate the Patriots, and teams that are hated are a ratings bonanza.

It's kind of fitting that we had that post from a Ravens fan stating what a great board this is and this thread both appear on the board this week. Those two display the opposite ends of the Good/Bad spectrum on this board.

There are 2 reasons why I don't believe NFL games are fixed or staged to produce a certain outcome:

    - One is that, 20 years ago, we had a chance to see Steve Young vs. Joe Montana in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs and 49ers had both reached the CCG and were a win away from a macth-up that would have set ratings records. Instead, we got Cowboys-Bills II, Buffalo's 4th straight SB appearance. If things were truly rigged, we would have seen the most hyped game ever.

    - The other reason is that if there really is a conspiracy, then everyone is in on it: The league, the players, the announcers, the coaches, the referees. Everyone. That's the only way to ensure that "They" get the results they want. That's too many people to keep quiet about something that big. Do you think Joey Porter could keep his mouth shut about something like this?

Why in the world would the NFL rig a Baltimore-SF matchup? Think about it. If the NFL were rigging any matchups, New England would be on the short list of beneficiaries.

Ignorance is bliss. You're part of the problem. And, you either don't know much about football, or don't pay very close attention to what you're watching.

All those who have resorted to ad hominem in this thread - I'd love to hear your explanation for the uncalled offensive pass interference by Burress in the 2008 Super Bowl, or better yet, the uncorrected clock cessations during the final minute while Troy Aikman noted it for all the world to hear, or the uncalled personal foul when Brady was speared in the chin. Then you can explain how it really doesn't make a major difference when one team has to play by the rules in the rule book, and the other one doesn't; maybe you weren't watching closely enough to see the Ravens OL holding nearly every play and not being called for it, or maybe you think Eric Mangini was making it up when he observed on national television that the Ravens DBs were allowed to break the rules the entire game? I'd love to hear an explanation of how there's nothing corrupt about officials deciding to selectively not enforce a rule that's in the rule book and not open to interpretation; then perhaps you can explain how cornerbacks being released from any considerations of the rule book in how they defend the receivers of one of the most potent offenses in history, is not really that much of an advantage, and the Pats should have just been able to overcome it so you don't have to leave your infantile world of denial and face the fact your favorite pastime is a sham.

Here's an even better question: If you believe any or all of those things, then why are you a fan of the sport? I would never follow a sport I believed to be rigged. And yet, here you are.
