Lance is a Gigantic question mark, an almost total Mystery...Don't know if I'd take him ahead of Jones...

Love the Zaven Collins pick; he's a very, Very rich man's Anfernee Jennings...

Don't like the Stills pick; he's not what we need at DT...If he's still available there, then I'm taking Tyler Shelvin...

#138 is too early for Hutcherson, who's not athletic enough to replace Thuney at LG here...And #198 is Way too late for Meinerz, who likely won't make it to even Hutcherson's #138...

Me too but i doubt he will last that long..

Yeah Stills solid but not the type of DT i would like to draft us as well..Shelvin/McNeil/Wilson as run stoppers are my favourites...Nixon/Onwuzurike/Barmore if we are looking for possible 3 down IDL..

Yeah i think Meinerz has a chance at top 100

The replacement for thuney is van laten from Wisconsin,

much like thuney played tackle at NC state and became better as a guard.
Van laten played at tackle at Wisconsin, but would be a guard for us.

as a run blocker, he is exceptional. When he goes forward defenders go backwards.
As a pass protector, he has issues at the tackle spot because his feet are heavy, but as a guard, he would work for us!

best of all, we can get him in the sixth round. He could be a huge draft steal if he works out.

sadly if he was a defensive back, bb would take him in the second round.

Yeah I would love Van Lanen in the 6th as part 2 of an OL double-dip, with part 1 coming no later than #120.

If there is one thing above all else I want to know from the tell-all book that BB will never write it is what the hell he was thinking with the following picks: Ras-I Dowling, Jordan Richards, JoeJuan Williams, Dom Easley. The WR whiffs I chalk up to a demanding vet QB and a brutal system to learn. But Defensive draft failures by a defensive head coach have always baffled me.

Trey Lance would be a great pickup for the Pats at 15, but I just don’t see him being there at 15. Sure, he would need some time, but the dividends could be spectacular. IF the Jets don’t pick a QB at 2, and the Niners stick with Jimmy G (been hearing rumors the Jets & Niners will stick with their QBs), it’s possible Lance could possibly fall to 15. I could see Lawrence, Wilson & Fields going top 10, and if the rumors are true about the Jets & 49ers sticking with their QBs, Lance & Jones could call close to 15.

I just have a feeling about Jones. He reminds me a lot of Brady. Listen, there may never be another Brady, I’m just talking about his playing style & personality. So smart, accurate, quick reads, quick release, can make all the throws, passionate, a winner, plays HUGE in big games.

I love the fact that he’s so passionate and intense, his coaches used to call him McEnroe. Now he’s more calm and cool (like Brady).

Also, was watching his Bowl game vs Michigan from 2019. It was only his 4th start ever. Alabama won, Jones had a very good game. There was this one play, I swear it was the same exact play the Pats ran in SB 51. It was when the Pats started at their own 9 yard line, a drive to try to complete the comeback and get within 2, 3rd and 15, and Brady, cool as ice, completes a 18 yarder to Hogan near the sidelines. This after almost 2 sacks in a row in the most highly pressurized situation.

Well in the Bama/Michigan Bowl game, at his own 8, 3rd and 13 I believe, it looked like the same EXACT play, Jones converts for 15 on a perfect pass near the sidelines. Reminded me so much of Brady.

I know people don’t like Jones, I guess I see something different than those people. I see a winner, an intense fighter, with a ton of talent, and is ridiculously accurate.

amen brother!!!!

Who looked at film of tavon Wilson and thought second round???

who watched duke Dawson and said he would make a great second round pick?

who scouted Cyrus Jones and said, man this guy can not play defense, but we should burn a second round pick on a punt returner?

a tell all draft book is long over due,

I agree with you on the players actual draft positions. This was an exercise based on Bacon Grundle Candy's Patriots Type Players rankings by round.

I've been burnt by one year starters before but here I am. Im a big fan. Sure he's a project but so is every other QB to an extent. Every one of them needs decent work so I'd gladly roll the dice with Lance. A bit much here but his skill set is truly unique.
A)He's as physical and as tough as they come
B)Check out the first clip below ... I know a lot frown upon this sort of thing but very soon all we'll have are mobile QB's. Lance can make something out of nothing - backed up on GL, blitz coming at you. facing bad field position? No problem, great call to counter and Lance picks up 40. Again great designed call and check out that block by Radunz. @Mark Morse I just added him and think he'd be perfect here. Anyway the playmaking ability is real.
C)Its not just his legs. Dude passed for 28-0. I repeat 28-0. He can obviously pass the ball and make good decisions. If Josh Allen can improve why can't Lance? He also complete 65% of his passes I believe. It's box score im not eval prospects here but it speaks to decision making and accuracy.

Bill didn't have many options (topic for another thread) at QB but ultimately picked Newton. So it's not as farfetched as some might think. 0 chance he's there at 15 but I'd happily trade up to 7-8 if I could.

I've been on the Collins bandwagon before it was cool and would be thrilled to land him here. I just started doing defense and hes one of the guys I really want to see run and test but I really like the prospect. He's not as physical as Hightower, think more KJ Wright but I'd love the pick. He could play any LB position and loves getting after the QB. The really intriguing thing about him and Parsons is the fact that you can line both up outside, off the edge. Blitz inside and Collins is a lot further along when it comes to coverage. Probably further along in most areas upstairs.

I understand most want a fatty here but again the game has changed. You need disruption and controlled chaos upfront. Stills is one of the more refined rushers in the draft at his spot (IDL), familiar with some of the things we like to do (bear, stunts) and can line up in multiple spots.

This is one of the big problems we have. We don't just need a fatty but also disruptors as well. Just like at WR. We need speed, rr, playmaking types. We need them all lol. So it's tough to go in a wrong direction there.

I like Newsome and will have Smith graded in this area as well. I think Brown, Newsomes teammate might be an option? Brad Kelly recently comp'd him to Lee Evans and that makes a lot of sense. I'm a big Smith fan tho. I'll have him and Eskridge in my top 10 I believe. T Grimes is another guy I really like that'll have a much better NFL career than college.

I had a rough 4th-5th on Fields. He should be 5th-6th imo so I like that pick. Lines up with the value.

I'll probably have a 6th-7th on Hutch so again nice value. I'm going to be adding some names most likely. Hudson from Cinci and Van Lanen from Wisky. Everyone always talks about Slaters game against Young but Van Lanen had a great game (and a stinker) vs the lottery pick.

Big fan of Gillespie and Meinerz as well. Just waiting on more tape on the fat boy. I like his movements, awareness and footwork though. He absolutely has to get stronger but he looks like a player.

He passed on Lamar twice at the bottom of the 1st so id actually be shocked to see him trade up for Lance.. (or pick him in the 1st)

That was my first thought, but as someone who was a big fan of Lamar in college, he was clearly a work in progress as a thrower, not even hitting 60% on his throws in his final season. I've only watched a few high and lowlights of Lance, but I'm guessing he's a better decision maker and thrower, but as we all know he's only had that 1 season (plus one 50% 2020 game).

I feel like his last game will give insight into what he'll be like in the pros at least early on (2TDs/1 bad decision INT/2Rush TDs/ 149ydsThrow/143ydsRush):

WRs they drafted could no more play with Brady than they could play with ANY QB in the history of the NFL. Isn't that already proven? Who could Boyce play with? Jackson? Dobson? Heck, Dorsett? These are receivers that can play with no one. Yet, Brady could play with Mitchell. He could play with Branch. Givens. Etc.

I agree that the DB whiffs are much more concerning than the WR whiffs.

Unlike so many people who don't like the Pats to take a QB in the first round, I would be happy with any one of these 4: Lance, Wilson, Fields. These all seem like QBs who have talent to play in the NFL. I would prefer Fields and Lance over Wilson though.

Dowling was Gronk as a CB. Was on track to be a starter as a rookie and a star in a couple of years. Unlike Gronk, the injuries didn't heal up enough for that potential to happen.

For every roll of the dice that leads to a Gronk, you need to lose on a few. But its worth it.

Williams looks like he's in line to have an average career for someone picked 45th.

I don't think there are that many people who absolutely don't want a QB in the first round. They're just assuming that those first 4 are out of reach and that a first round QB means Mac Jones at pick 15. For example, I saw one mock last week that had those 4 QBs in the first 4 picks. If that happens, then put me in "no first round QB" group.
