Mort says it's "not the right time" to discuss the deflategate controversy

Mort was used by the NFL to twist the Patriots and interfere with their preparations for the Superbowl. He was a pawn in trying to fix the largest gambling event of the year because the misinformation he relayed, was the key event in the witch hunt against the Patriots. 11 of 12 balls 2 PSI under. Now time goes on and it comes out what his NFL source fed him was a lie. Mort neither corrects it, acknowledges that he was used by someone in the NFL to falsely attack the Patriots and interfere with their SB preparation nor has Mort ever done the slightest bit of reporting or talking about the dastardly way he was used by the NFL.

Mort is the NFL's ***** pure and simple.

That's all correct and I have no sympathy for this criminal either, I just wonder if in the middle of all this is possible that the NFL have made some threats to him you know, they don't have to be explicit about it or put it on the paper, the are tons of people on ESPN in their pockets, just a phone call, a meeting with his boss, a coffee after lunch, he might have been advised to keep quiet.

Oh there is tremendous pressure on ESPN from the NFL. Talk was the NFL gave MNF a very weak slate to ESPN as payback fro criticizing Goodell. This is completely believable. here is a story from the Washington Post about it Did the NFL punish ESPN with bad ‘Monday Night Football’ games?

I'm going to go way, way out on a limb here and say that Mortensen never meaningfully addresses the false "11 out 12 balls" story. If he does say anything, it will be similar to what Peter King said - "It was a source I trusted, I thought the information was good, I'll try to do better in the future, etc" and that will be the end of it.

Nothing about who fed him the false information and the significance of the NFL leaking false info to the media to incriminate one of their teams. Nothing about how ESPN refused to update his original story even after it was known to be wrong. Nothing about the absurd in-studio skits where former players were handed footballs and claimed they could tell immediately if one was under 12.5 PSI. It will be the half-hearted "Sometimes you get burned by a source" explanation and then back to business as usual.

He's a "reporter" that relies on getting info from League sources (Front Office types and owners). He could ****ing care less about Tom Brady and any other player.
