[Mod Edit:] Board Issues/Reaction Issues Thread

Not open for further replies.
It's pretty easy to point the finger at one poster and say that they're the ones who ruin threads but IMHO it takes at least two posters to keep an argument going. If you don't engage, the argument ends. If there's a poster spamming a thread with their unpopular opinion(s) I just scroll past their posts.

Everyone has a right to their opinions no matter how stupid they are.

I agree with Kontra. I would add that I scroll past posters and look to see who people are responding to, and scroll past responses to certain posters too. For example I do not have Crawhammer muted, but I scroll past his posts, never respond if he quotes me, and scroll past responses to him too. I admit sometimes I scroll past full pages, but it is what it is.
I agree with Kontra too but you liked one of my posts just two days ago so you're not being entirely honest.

Peyton Manning’s Bush’s Baked Beans commercial is unrealistic. Nobody eats that many beans in one sitting. The “Moat” looks absolutely disgusting.

If he does eat that many beans, it gives us a reason why he made wind in a trainer’s face. It may have just been an accident. That many beans would produce enough cubic feet per minute of methane to power a skyscraper.

It’s a request. A simple think before you post. Say your .02 cents, throw it out there have the discussion but realize sometimes your view is not the same as theirs. To go 10 pages to anyone that doesn’t agree is going overboard. Sure you can block that poster, but the problem is some of the posters that are going back and forth are one’s you don’t want to block as they bring good content, so it’s not just the one poster that is the culprit. Comes down to a alpha contest of who is getting the last word cuz neither is backing down. Lot of strong personalities here.

I simply don’t block anyone permanently because I could disagree with 10 of their posts and then they come with a solid post I completely agree with.

The easiest way is just to ignore the noise and just move on and accept the internet for what it is. If everyone thought Bill was great and Patriots do no wrong, why even have a discussion? Utopia just doesn’t work.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that some of these posters are in their 20s and 30’s and know nothing but Brady and winning and they are not taking the transition very well.

The move to beans was a surprise. Was totally expecting him to finally put the Manning face to a Gerber jar.

I agree…for some of us who know who the troublemakers are it’s easy…to a degree. I can only imagine what a cluster **** the site must look like for newbies that experience this failure of decorum.

Ian did a great job with the mute functions. I should use them more.

I agree with several of your posts but the problem happens when you channel DKF over and over and over. It actually makes me want to disagree with you.

A discussion board that frowns upon discussion?
Nah there's a difference though and there's room for nuance between "Stay 100% on topic never say anything outside of relevance to the OP" and a free for all of ******** for x amount of pages. That Hopkins thread having new responses making you think there's an update just to find out it's mother****ers hashing some completely unrelated topic out makes you not even want to join the thread on the off chance there IS an update.

Wonder if we could just keep news/rumor related threads under more strict scrutiny and leave everything else to the wolves

That’s crazy, man. The board has never been like that before. A shocker, if you will.

Didn't they have to build you guys your own Brady safe space elsewhere on this site?

Funny you say safe space while Team Bill cries to the mods all day.

Ian, Cwaaaahammah is hurting my feelings.

I’ve yet to see anyone outside Team Bill whine to the mods and ask for special intervention.

The mods are annoyed by the constant knob slobbing you guys engage in over a player who’s now retired. They don’t need prompting.

But hey, you guys are Bucs fans now. The Baker Mayfield/Blaine Gabbart era has begun in Tampa. Go post on the Pewter Report or whatever that sites called.

The mods are actively muting you from threads but keeping thumping your chest.

I am an admitted Belichick knob gobbler, but I think you've got this backwards. The people who flinch at the mention of the word Brady kind of demanded that this part of the board needed to be their safe place in the good old days of the pink hat moderatrix.

A discussion board that frowns upon discussion?
No - it's a discussion board that frowns upon the same discussion showing up in thread after thread and making quite a few of them go off the rails. And unfortunately, it's gone far beyond "just scrolling past." There have been other threads where it's required scrolling past multiple pages in hundreds of posts.

I'm sure @Ian will institute this ASAP. Right after he recruits the 25 new mods needed to keep up.
It's really simple. And it's not open for discussion, and I can't even believe I have to make this clear.

I've set the rules.

I've asked nicely - more times than I can count.

I've put in place ways for people to deal with this, but those tools were designed to be used on a realistic level. Same for mods, who have to deal with it.

I'm not going to deal with the whataboutisms for a problem that is being caused by a handful of people, yourself included. This should have been a PM - you decided to make it public, and I hope others who fall into this category read this and find that I'm well past putting up with it - and I won't - heading into the season.

Don't keep reverting to the same arguments in thread after thread. If you feel the need, go back and discuss it in an open topic (I already told you this). If you do, or if someone else does, I will remove you from that thread. If you argue with me about it, then I will remove you further.

I've been nice. I've been patient. We're not doing this any further. If you can't control yourself and refrain from reverting to that argument in every thread, then unfortunately, your time here may be limited.

And this is a closed-ended statement.

Ian, here’s a suggestion for mods: when you see a poster driving towards the cliff, post a reply to them “strike one”. Continuation of counterproductive posts gets “strike two” and after three strikes they are out of that thread permanently.

If/when that happens too often they get a board timeout. Hopefully you won’t need to go past strike one very often. Probably a few times as you figure out the appropriate threshold and posters learn the new accountability scheme.
I agree and did this previously, and some complained about it. They viewed three strikes in a thread as harsh/unfair, etc. Now, I no longer care. And there likely will be something put back in place as my days of being nice/patient are done.
