[Mod Edit:] Board Issues/Reaction Issues Thread

Not to pile on but it isn't really as simple as an ignore feature. People engage in the Brady BB debate too. That's not to say that that means it's a good engagement. You can't have a thread about BBQ that always devolves into veganism and say "just ignore me" when it messes with the entire flow of the thread.

It will be interesting how the new ignore feature works out though
A lot of members are well invested in the Tom v Bill debate and enjoy those interactions. It's why you're guaranteed mega threads on that and any related topic. So, they're not gonna suddenly dry up and go away, whether I'm here or not. It'll die down organically during the season because there will plenty of other more relevant topics to be discussed and argued. But, the only way the Tom v Bill debates are going away entirely is if it's forced through Mod intervention, which of course is @Ian's prerogative.

Cry me a river you poor, poor, put-upon child. Your own worst enemy is that incessantly negative OCD guy in the mirror -- not me, @Joker , @Ian or anyone else here. The ignore function fails in your case because you habitually hijack threads steering them off course and THAT is why you're in such a pickle. Fingers crossed it eventually will dawn on you that reigning in one's personal obsessions/bloated self-importance is an ESSENTIAL act of civility everywhere. Hell, you even kinda sorta copped to transgressing rule No. 8 before brushing it off but would be well served to take your own hint.

In these respects you're the last one to lecture on message board conduct so thanks for the laugh re. keeping one's teeth.
You and @Joker ... not the same.

.... there will plenty of other more relevant topics to be discussed and argued.
Why does it have to be an argument?. That's the whole point. You WANT to argue.
But, the only way the Tom v Bill debates are going away entirely is if it's forced
You are the only one that keeps the debate going. There's plenty of Bill haters that may circle around to your defense, but 100% you are the guy who makes sure the embers are fanned.

My .02.

Ian and Ross are great mods. Not ass kissing but it’s the truth. Trying not to be ungrateful for the time put in by some other mods over the years, but most of them were deficient as mods because they were biased in some way. Ian and Ross are not biased and both have found a good happy medium by being laid back but also having limits

I like crawhammer’s posts because they’re usually well reasoned and supported by facts. Most of the time the repetition is because of stubbornness from others to simply concede a point. But yes there are some threads where making it all about TB12 isn’t really the point of the thread.

But I think you can’t really police CH when you have a guy on here who is literally an admitted troll, changing his screen name every few years, posting with dishonest intentions, etc. You have to get rid of that guy before dealing with a much milder issue. One guy at least believes what he’s typing and the other is an ass clown. It comes across loud and clear.

Personally I don’t even think Showtime Idiot should be banned or policed, but my point is he should come first if such measures are going to be enacted. Otherwise it’s kind of laughable to target someone else.

The forum used to be a lot more colorful with different personalities. Illegal Contact (though he needed to be banned), Dropkick Flutie, Deus Irae, were all lightning rods of ire but they made it more interesting. And I think all of them were at least genuine even if you didn’t like their style. The board has become a lot more vanilla with everyone sounding the same, but it’s still a great place overall.
Yeah .... that was worth about .02

Why does it have to be an argument?. That's the whole point. You WANT to argue.
My use of the word argue:

1. give reasons or cite evidence in support of an idea, action, or theory, typically with the aim of persuading others to share one's view.

Your use of the word argue:

2. exchange or express diverging or opposite views, typically in a heated or angry way.

I don't have a problem with @Ian, I may not like or agree with some of the MB features, but he's obviously a gracious host and seemingly a great guy, the first person I would welcome tailgating with.

Honestly I don't have a real problem with most members, even some that seemingly disagree with most anything I say, because that's not a reason to dislike someone and I enjoy the reasoned interactions (which is what I usually get).

Even half the time you're not a complete douchebag, the Clown's a different story. But whatever, you attack it however you choose, and to whatever degree @Ian permits (which is a lengthy leash), but I'm just gonna genuinely go about my business. None of us are perfect, so I suppose we all could contribute more constructively, which individually we can take responsibility for, and @Ian will take care of the rest.
You have a real problem.
Your problem is that you can’t STFU.
You can’t make a point and move on.
You have to have the last post.

Every.Frigging.Thread.

Even in this thread, about stopping such behavior!

it’s all about you.
not the thread topic, not the Patriots, just Crawdaddy waving pincers in the air to win the day.

it changes the nature of the thread. It changes the nature of the board.
it’s a reason I don’t come here as often, and its the reason I skip most threads.

Ian, please look at this thread as a litmus test for the success of your efforts to resolve this particular problem, and the need for more assertive moderation.

A discussion board that frowns upon discussion?
There’s an important difference between discussion and haranguing.

othervthan overlooking that, nice troll. Game respects game.

Some countries in the world don’t even have running water. In America, adults post stuff like this on the internet.

Then just ****in’ ignore or mute the guy. What’s so hard about that? Why continually bang your head against the wall and read his posts if they piss you off that much?

This thread is a great reminder of why more people should take the offseason off. Holy ****. Go have an adventure, guys. Life’s too short.

It ****s up the entire thread and distracts from whatever the interesting topic might have been.

that makes the whole board less interesting.

EDITED to add: that might work if everybody did it, and stayed on topic. But there’s always somebody….

So then just scroll past their posts. Do you know how many posts I skim and then scroll past when I’m here? It would make you question your belief in a God if you knew. The dude who pisses you off disappears. The rest of us can join in on a debate that might interest us. That seems to be a reasonable alternative that doesn’t stifle discussion.

Ian, here’s a suggestion for mods: when you see a poster driving towards the cliff, post a reply to them “strike one”. Continuation of counterproductive posts gets “strike two” and after three strikes they are out of that thread permanently.

If/when that happens too often they get a board timeout. Hopefully you won’t need to go past strike one very often. Probably a few times as you figure out the appropriate threshold and posters learn the new accountability scheme.

I have no idea who you are. But I'm happy to have made such a strong impression on you.

I'm sure @Ian will institute this ASAP. Right after he recruits the 25 new mods needed to keep up.

With all due respect, you came into this thread complaining that people are using this new emoji on you a lot. Folks responded with reasons why, and you basically used the “it’s a free country!” defense, which could just as easily be applied to people using the emoji on you…

At the end of the day, no one’s gotten booted. We’re talking about emojis.
Not a game. Not a game. Emojis.

I agree with Kontra. I would add that I scroll past posters and look to see who people are responding to, and scroll past responses to certain posters too. For example I do not have Crawhammer muted, but I scroll past his posts, never respond if he quotes me, and scroll past responses to him too. I admit sometimes I scroll past full pages, but it is what it is.
