He's not even that great. Not sure why everyone here loves him.

I remember him owning Lloyd in the @MIA game, not sure if thats saying much.

DB inconsistencies can be hidden pretty well by bolstering the pass rush. Jones needs an explosive partner, whether its from the inside or other end spot, and suddenly the secondary will be much less of a problem.

I just hope we aren't going to overpay by trying to get the first DBs off the board in a market thats flooded with good talent.

Talib is certainly more of a playmaker.. But 26 games missed in 5 years is unacceptable

That's more than 5 games missed per year. Unacceptable isn't even doing it justice. Talib is missing an average of almost 1/3 of each season. That's insane.

I still find it completely comical that some here think he's going to get a "5/50" deal, and that teams will be running each other over to outdo the last highest bid.

Talib falls right in line with any of these cap casualties, and doesn't deserve anything more than a 6 million dollar deal aav, maybe 7 at the max as someone will likely overpay. On top of that, who's going to give him a "real" long term deal? That 4th year is going to be a dummy year that makes the pact look better.

If Belichick rushes out and spends equal or more money on a CB, that will finally show everyone exactly what he thought of Aqib Talib's prospects here on a longer term deal.

Lloyd got more then half of he's yards in 4 of the 16 games he played and he did noting vs the whole AFC east that dose not mean Smith is not a good CB just Lloyd is a inconsistent WR

Which is why he will be gone. My buddy thinks that if we lose talib we are screwed :bricks: With all the CBs out there...we won't notice him gone

interesting point. made me go look.

very intriguing that his 4 best games were against four of our "toughest" D opponents (sf, ratbirds, hous, sea- in best game order) i was thnking it was somewhat due to gameplanning; but he had some hi tgt low rec games in there too. inconsistent i guess is appropriate (or inexplicable?)

I could be well off, but I thought that there were 2 points this season where the offense had to regroup and find itself a bit. Obviously, those 2 points were the Hernandez and Gronkowski injuries. I wonder if that had anything to do with it, as different teams began having some success with different schemes and doubling methods.

It almost seemed like Brady was desperately forcing the ball to Llyod on some occasions. Again, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember wondering that at some point during the season.

The thing about Talib is I do feel everyone should question his work ethic. Look at his injury history http://www.kffl.com/player/18312/nfl/injury_history/aqib-talib these are all generally injuries that result in a player not being in excellent physical condition.

How do you give a guy 5/50 when his conditioning isn't his #1 priority. He is obviously very talented but so wasn't Fat Albert and see how things ended for him.

Talib is not getting 5/50. Too much baggage and too many questions.

I agree I think he'll end up on a 1 year deal here.

Then I would want to bring in a guy like Greg Toler as well. I just don't trust starting Talib without having good depth behind him for when he gets hurt or punches a cop. (Wait wrong guy...)

I agree 100%. I really want to see Toler here I think he could be a real gem.

Just the fact alone that he was on IR back to back years of 2010 and 2011 prior to coming here says alot, especially considering that they were 2 different injuries.

That's not even bringing into account the fact that BOTH of those prior 2010 and 2011 IR injuries carried over to his stint in N.England, where he missed time for both ailments of hip and hamstring issues here too.

Then there's the 2 suspensions, although the first one looks like it may have been by the team. Regardless, I've been saying the whole time--since day one that's he extremely overrated and poses many risks.

I pity the team that somehow is desperate enough to offer him a longer term deal. I still stand by my thought that he's worth between 6-7 million aav, and that's the absolute highest range. On top of that I wouldn't offer him anything more than 2-3 yrs max, with a surefire out.

IMO the improvements on defense were more about McCourty playing safety then anything Talib did. I think adding a CB like Smith would only further improve the team. Interceptions as we know are not always a major indicator of how good a CB is. Arrington had 7 in 2011 and I would want him covering my grandmother on the outside.

I wouldn't mind him here on a one year deal, but I think there will be a few teams that offer him a longer term and/or better money--which he'll surely jump on. He is not the kind of player that will give out any hometeam discounts.

If he does end up here on a one year deal, that will definitely say quite a lot about what the other 31 teams' front offices feel about him.

In my opinion he'll hardly manage to get half of that.

I fully agree with this thought and have since he hit the market. I am honestly shocked that so many here value him so highly. I can't even tell you how many people threw out the "5/50" numbers, stating that he was clearly the best CB in the entire free agency pool. Sometimes I think it's almost like they were watching a different guy or something.

But I wouldn't sign just him in case he isn't a gem. If we sign him I also want one of Talib, Smith, Gamble. In fact, I'd prefer that we'd do that.

Anyone got an idea for what price range Toler could go for??

I think he's going to be a little more costly than Arrington would be and I'd bring him in to be our #3 and step in when Talib misses his 5-6 games.

I would love to believe Dowling could step in but honestly I think he might end up playing safety as McCourty's backup because his hip injuries have permanently affect his lateral movements.
