This level of attention to detail is unreal. Knowing how the wind enters the stadium at an oblique angle and swirls around the stadium and what it does. No stone is left unturned...

They do play half of their games there every season, so I would hope that they would notice things like that.

People keep saying that Elandon Roberts has improved in coverage.
Can anyone provide actual proof of this?

This is from Boston Sports Journal article last week:

"In all, according to Pro Football Focus, he’s been asked to work in coverage on 107 snaps this year. Ten passes have been completed on him in 13 targets. But when quarterbacks do get the ball to him, the pass-catchers can’t do much with it — he’s allowed just 33 yards after the catch and 84 total receiving yards. It’s one of the best totals for any inside linebacker who has been in coverage for 100 or more snaps this season."

Considering how lost he was in coverage at times last year, that's a major improvement. Additionally they note how well he's playing against the run:

"Going into last weekend, according to Pro Football Focus, he led the Patriots defense with an 8.1 percent run-stop percentage."

Flea flicker looked like a 1 man route. I guess the fish saw something in there to exploit it if they were that confident to running a 1 man route.

After the DPI on Butler, The fish try the Chiefs forward pass sweep that we've done with Cooks. Their variation sucked and Van Noy was up to the task in taking Landry down for no gain.

2 plays later, it's 3rd and goal, 2nd qtr 4:16, NWE 10
Great immediate pressure by Butler on Pouncey. Forces Moore to throw it away who doesn't get it back to LOS. Where the **** is the intentional grounding? Ball is at least 4 yards behind LOS. Would have been spotted at the 25 yard line instead of the 10 for the FG kick. 43 yarder is harder than a chipshot 28 yarder. And with the ball holding up in the air on the flea flicker, that might have been a tough kick even at 43 yards.

2nd qtr, after 2nd and 15 play, 17 seconds left
Refs call it a 1st down here even though Landry is just short.
Heads up play by the d-lineman to protect against the QB sneak just in case it was 3rd and short.
Next play is the Gilmore pick though :)

Allen had 18 run snaps and 15 pass snaps.

3 kneel down snaps, False start snap, Karras pre-mature snap were the other 5 snaps.

Allen went out for a route 12 times. Stayed in to block 2 times. Went down the field to block 1 time.

2 balls thrown to him:

1st qtr, 7:47, MIA 47, 2nd and 7, 12 personnel, Allen in the slot on the right, Gronk split out wide to the left - Incomplete

2nd qtr, 3:22. NWE 46, 2nd and 10, 12 personnel, Allen and Gronk from left to right end of line - Screen pass for short gain

Allen had 15 positive run blocking snaps.

1st qtr, 12:25, MIA 7, 1st and goal, 12 personnel, Allen motions from left to right and settles right behind Gronk, Gronk right of line off LOS
Allen picks up the big DT Jordan Phillips #97 and guides him around as Dion runs to right of him. Well done taking on a big DT! #97 is a beast too!
Waddle and Gronk double team Donkey Kong Suh #93 successfully. Gain of 5 yards

2nd qtr, 13:53, NWE 27, 1st and 15, 12 personnel, Allen split out left in the slot, Gronk left of line off LOS
Sweep to Cooks, Allen runs straight towards DB, Gronk chips edge defender so can't get to the other DB. Cooks makes the DB miss. During all this time, Allen sustains his block all the way pushing the DB back 7 yards down the field from where he engaged him so Cooks can make a good gain!

There were a few other dominating blocks against DB's that I think Belichick mentioned already.

Allen had 1 snap where there wasn't anything he could do because of the D.

4th qtr, 8:13, MIA 32, 2nd and 4, 12 personnel, Allen split out to the left, Gronk left of line
Allen tries to move inside to take on Jones #20 but Jones shoots the play so quickly. Nothing he could do.
Gronk handles the edge nicely as Lewis dodges #20 in the backfield and makes it 3rd and short instead of 3rd and long.

Allen had 2 negative run blocking snaps, Both plays the D was playing the run.

4th qtr, 15:00, MIA 25, 4th and 1, 21 personnel FB, Allen right of line, Gronk left of line
Wake #91 shoots inside of Allen and beats him. The whole play is a scrum, nowhere to go for Burkhead regardless of Allen getting beat.
Gronk engages #94 to push him into the scrum but Gronk fails. So with the pile of bodies Burkhead tries to cut outside to the left but #94 squeezed passed Gronk towards Burkhead.
Who knows if Burkhead would have got the 1st down if Gronk was able to make his block, depends on how fast #59 can get to the edge. No idea where the run was meant to go.
Loss of 2 yards.

4th qtr, 4:58, NWE 41, 1st and 10, 21 personnel FB, Allen right of line
#78 beats Allen inside and gets a piece of the tackle. Gain of 2 yards.

Another solid run blocking performance by Allen. I suppose he should have caught the ball on the incomplete play but I can't see from the TV copy.

Here's some garbage blocking by the fish:

1st qtr, 4:27, 2nd and 5, MIA 31, Pats in base defense with Chung in the box, single high safety
Fasano and Julius Thomas get pushed back hard by Butler and Reilly. Atrocious blocking! stretch runs are always hard to block for the olineman and TE but that was
bad how much he got pushed back. That would never happen to Allen or Gronk. That was straight trash! Butler and Reilly are there to make the tackle.

1st qtr, 3:46, 3rd and 5, MIA 31
Just to add to Fasano's fabulous blocking, Van Noy beats him inside on the next play but Fasano with a clear hold on Van Noy. Should have been flagged.
Instead it's a 1st down for Moore. Van noy would have got him for a sack.

2nd qtr, 2:03, 1st and 10, MIA 48
Look as Fasano can't sustain his block against Chung. No gain for Drake because of it.

3rd qtr, 8:36, MIA 49.5, 2nd and 1
Julius Thomas with some garbage blocking. Van Noy gets tackle for loss, Flowers forces the fumble, Chung recovers the fumble.

But nevermind that, who gives a **** about blocking, blocking doesn't matter...o_O

I hope it is a trend and not just situational that his snap count is growing steadily towards the magical 60% range because he is one of the keys to make 12 personnel so unpredictable.

Josh seems to have 3-4 plays per week that can potentially go to Allen for bigger gains but he didnt have much luck with those this season. Sometimes he dropped a catchable pass, sometimes Brady was just inaccurate and other times -- like last week -- they try something tricky like a screen but the (replacement) center is too slow peeling to the side to get his block executed.

Just keep at it...

Blocking is one of the least understood aspects of the game for many. And that is often not the viewers fault because there is so much **** happening at the same time that most just focus on the pocket.

It really is a failure of tv broadcasts highlighting those things. Instead we get commercial after commercial after commercial. I guess it will never happen but I would love to see what a premium cable channel could do for the viewing experience with all the time they'd have to do quick analysis and replays while the basic tv networks are on commercial break.

In terms of Fasano I think plays like that are very telling about the lack of toughness in the Miami locker room. I honestly think that while Gase is a good OC he is not a competent head coach. His remarks on ST, the lack of discipline his teams show and the apparent absence of accountability really are the most fundamental things (or what Lombardi calls the culture) that are holding back that team.

If I understand it correctly, once upon a time subscription TV was created so there were no ads vs Over the air broadcast. And what happened? You got ads on subscription TV. So what it would do for the viewing experience? Nothing, you would just be paying more with the same amount of ads.

Yeah most probably. I am just sad that so much potential is wasted in terms of making breaks in the telecasts of NFL games educational.

Limiting YAC/making the tackle when the pass is completed is not a frequently mentioned or highlight making stat, however, it's so very damn important. There are precious few cover guys (certainly not LBs) who can shut down any passes coming their way or bat down/breakup any pass that does come at their receiver assignment. Bottom line nearly all pass defenders will see catches made (especially in the 2017 NFL's super pass friendly era). But if a defender can almost always have a hand in or very near the actual catch but then make the tackle when the catch is made? You're a valuable pass defense commodity.
Only 3.3 yards YAC (especially as I'd assume a LB's assignment will sometimes be a mismatch against a smaller quicker backfield receiver)? On the face of it that seems a very noteworthy good performance by ER...
