Based upon multiple reports I have read, it seems like Jimmy G has an AC sprain in his right shoulder. I did some searching online for details and found the following site on sports injuries that lays out the background of such injuries, treatments, etc. I figured the folks here might have some interest in it.

An AC joint separation or AC joint sprain is an injury to the ligament that holds the acromioclavicular joint together at the top of the shoulder. It is usually caused by fall onto an outstretched arm.

AC joint sprains range from very mild (grade 1) to a severe (grade 6) injury. Early treatment and support through taping is important to avoid long term problems or shoulder deformity.

I've had an AC sprain and still have arthritis from it. It sucks but with cortisone you can play with it.

On a separate but related note, I went to a specialist at Mass General about ten years ago for my shoulder and asked him what the prognosis is for an AC. He said, "live with it until you can't stand it, then come see me again".

Before I left, I asked him "what's gonna happen when I come se you again?"

He said, "You won't be as good as you were before the injury but, I just did 6 patriots this Spring and one of them was TFB, so if he's ok you'll be ok".

He explained that when the AC dislocates there is often bone damage in the joint. The fix is to go into it with a grinder and smooth out the bone surface on both sides of the joint.

Brady was on the injury report with a shoulder for a while after that and I can understand why he was.

A lot of people make jokes about his injury status and maybe Bill stretched it a bit but I can relate.

It was real for him as far as I can tell.

Very cool and relevant anecdote, but didn't your doctor violate the **** out of HIPAA by having that conversation with you? I'm not particularly well versed in the law, but that sounds like a violation from what little I do know.

Luckily we really just need to get Jimmy on the field for week 4 if possible. If he can play through it for one week we're all set hopefully

When you come back from this injury, are you pretty much just throwing normally but with residual pain, or is your throwing expected to be a little wonky for awhile?

i got this exact sprain from a drunken wrestling match with a friend of mine the other week. mine was mild and for three or four days it was excruciating to lift my arm. it healed after about ten days but theres no way in hell he's on the field this week, and unlikely for buffalo either imo.

You, and the doctor will soon be getting a visit from this man:

He is not known by name. Just a moniker around circles as "Mr. Happy". From those that know, the visit will not be a "happy" experience.

Shoulder injuries have a habit of revisiting you when you get older.. they never really go away.

How long before we get Drew Brees on sports center showing how easy it is to throw with a sprained AC joint?

Great. Now we'll see on the injury report...Garroppolo- Shoulder-Probable for the next 10 years.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Jeez, depressing group of anecdotes here...."hurt your shoulder and live in pain forever."

Come on, medical community, get it together. I hope I never hurt my shoulder.
