    I don't buy it.

What I think is that what happened in this past season, Gronk getting injured but with time to recover for the playoffs and playing limited (doing more blocking than receiving) in the final stretch of the regular season, it probably gave them, Team Gronk and BB, a better picture of how to use him properly for another year or two. I think it's really unrealistic to think in a long term contract for him at this point. He is in a year by year evaluation.

I know BB has a philosophy that if a player is cleared to play than he is a 100% good to go, but I think it's also pretty clear that if they give him the workload of past years if Brady targeting him in the seam many times per game he is gonna get injured at some point. BB knows that too.

Gronk has superior blocking and from now on he should catch a pass here and there when it's necessary, he showed up big time against KC and the Rams. You don't wanna lose that player. BB in the past acknowledged that Gronks absence may have cost the team a better chance to advance in the playoffs when we were in that playoff drought from 2010-2013.

Grant him some VIP treatment and let's roll for another one. Draft another TE in 1st or 2nd round.

You just can’t do that. There has to be an injury.
The patriots are a team that will not break rules, which is very ironic.

When it comes to injuries, I am not convinced the NEP or any team plays by the rules.

    I am also.

Are you saying that if Gronk plays all of the OTA. camp, and pre-season, that he will have NO injuries. At the first semi-serious injury, couldn't Gronk be put on IR?

Listening to Gronk's agent has me believing that this talk of retirement could have something to do with Gronk's desire to start an acting career. We know that Mark Wahlberg wants Gronk to quit, just like Wahlberg did on the team during the Atlanta SB comeback. Maybe Gronk's being led astray.

No matter what though, Gronk should either sh!t or get off the pot. If he wants to quit, fine. Just don't hold the Pats up while deciding. The team doesn't deserve that.

Gronky is within 2500 yards of the all-time Patriots Regular Season Receiving Record (S.Morgan 10,352) and just 1,630 yards from the Patriots All-time (Regular & Post season, Morgan 10,654) receiving record ... be a shame to see him hang up his cleats before he can break one or both of those totally meaningless numbers...

I hope it is the case that Gronk is up front with BB and told him that the preseason is a grind with his injuries and that he'll be back mid-late August. Bill might not like it, but he would be able to properly plan.

His agent said it's not about the money and McGinest suggested this plan may be a reality.

From Gronk's point of view he may think he has leverage from his lack of career earnings and he deserves to be thrown a preseason bone.

I don't think bill gives a **** if he takes training camp off and comes back mid August. Gronk never had a problem with workouts and some years he never played in preseason games, If I recall correctly.

I think they’re absolutely going year-to-year at this point in time. How on earth could both Belichick and Gronk feel good about committing to the future, let alone agree on fair compensation? It would be virtually impossible.

The dude is a force when healthy, but is oft-injured, complains about the current practice workload, has contemplated retirement two years in a row, and has made it known that he isn’t happy with his current rate of pay, which has him as one of the top 3 TEs in the game. Lol. What is Belichick supposed to do with that in terms of offering an extension?

    Right, but I'
Where does Bill draw his line for players skipping preseason? I'm sure he doesn't like to deal with it because he is a man of integrity and doing your job. "Contemplating retirement" is a nice facade rather then saying "See ya late August Bill"

Exactly. All of this stuff is too cute by half. Of course the Pats can manage his workload, but ultimately he plays or he doesn’t.

He did it for Junior Seau in the past, and he draws the line on 10 year vets that are hall of fame players that are contemplating retirement due to the workload of a NFL Player after being injured for 1/2 of their career. I don't see the downside, do you think that the players don't see the situation Gronk is in and what he means to the team? Every member on that team has seen him limp, seen his arm in a cast and wearing a back brace.

I am totally on board. All I'm saying is that there may be some posturing involved. Ideally coaches want all players in camp and they want to be consistent when talking about rules and expectations for all players. My original point was that beyond posturing it would be nice if gronky told bill his intentions on the DL so Bill knows how to handle free agency with a guy like Jared cook or Marty B.

Gronk needs camp. Especially as he gets older he needs the work. I believe part of the reason he struggled last year was his off season preparation. This isn’t baseball.

Gronks acting career would last about 2 years.

The beginning would be the pinnacle of Gronks movie and TV career with no place else to go but down. At first you'd have that "hey, theres Gronk" factor going, but thats not going to carry him to the red carpet.

Where does Gronk fit in? Terminator 6.
