I don't buy it.
What I think is that what happened in this past season, Gronk getting injured but with time to recover for the playoffs and playing limited (doing more blocking than receiving) in the final stretch of the regular season, it probably gave them, Team Gronk and BB, a better picture of how to use him properly for another year or two. I think it's really unrealistic to think in a long term contract for him at this point. He is in a year by year evaluation.
I know BB has a philosophy that if a player is cleared to play than he is a 100% good to go, but I think it's also pretty clear that if they give him the workload of past years if Brady targeting him in the seam many times per game he is gonna get injured at some point. BB knows that too.
Gronk has superior blocking and from now on he should catch a pass here and there when it's necessary, he showed up big time against KC and the Rams. You don't wanna lose that player. BB in the past acknowledged that Gronks absence may have cost the team a better chance to advance in the playoffs when we were in that playoff drought from 2010-2013.
Grant him some VIP treatment and let's roll for another one. Draft another TE in 1st or 2nd round.
