I can’t cite the rule book, but I believe this is the next best thing.

I defer to M.

Freakin ehh, what else can that moron NJ swamp-sucker screw up before 24 owners pull their heads out their azzs. :(

This sounds to me like just practising doesn't mean anything:

>>Commencing on the sixth calendar day prior to the club’s
seventh regular season game (including any bye week), and
continuing through the day after the club’s eleventh regular
season game (including any bye week), clubs are permitted to
begin practicing players on Reserve/Physically Unable to
Perform for a period not to exceed 21 days. At any time during
the 21-day practice period or not later than 4:00 p.m., New
York time, on the day after the conclusion of the 21-day
period, clubs are permitted to restore such players to their
Active/Inactive list, provided that no player may be activated
in a Week Six game. (Note: a club with a bye in the seventh
week will be treated as having a Sunday game)<<

EDIT:

But this does indeed seem you have to designate when player starts to practice:

EDIT 2: Reiss says he was wrong:

These injuries are really starting to pile up. The complete lack of any playmakers in the front seven does not bode well for the Pats going forward.

If BB wins the SB with a linebacker corp of Van Noy, Harris, Marsh, Reily, and Roberts they should rename the trophy after him.

Tedy and Willie still look pretty fit on TV, how about Niko?

I think we can survive that but our offense has to be very sharp. I am still hoping Mitchell comes back. Outscore teams and get stops when it matters.

By the way, if Valentine and Mitchell both COULD come back, what a freaking kick in the head to lose that spot because of this, ai yi yi

Actually I think the reverse is true, Reis is right and Miguel (sorry Miguel) is wrong.

NFL approves rule to allow 2 players to return from injured reserve

According to this, a team doesn't have to designate the player to return until they actually activate him, so I think Reis is right.

It all depends on what the term "ready to take the field once more" means.

I am using the NFLCommunications.website and you are using a SBNation article.

I will go with the former and past history.

So Valentine & Mitchell can't return even if both are healthy? Um...yeah...

They won't win the SB because of the D. It'll be because of T.B.
