DRAFT Marte Mapu - Round 3 - #76th Overall

The first pick this draft I didn’t like. Would have much preferred Downs. Mapu seems kind of similar to Jammie Robinson who could have been drafted in the 4th which would have allowed the Pats to go offense in the third.

The praise for the pick from draft pundits makes me think I will end up liking him. He’s probably the long term successor to Phillips in a similar role. if Downs, Kraft, Washington, Wilson or Latu look like they could have helped the Pats this season then I’m going to feel vindicated.

If the Pats pick offense in the fourth I probably will feel better about the Mapu pick.

Not to mention four 4th rounders today. Go get a couple OL that can sit behind Reiff for a year.

You all also do realize we spent a second on Thornton last year right? We have to have some sort of hope in him developing.

It’s like people want us to draft a WR, because they know Thornton won’t be good, because we can’t draft WR… so solve want to solve it by drafting another WR…
They have to develop some WR's. All teams have to. Putting all their eggs in the Thornton basket isn't a good strategy.

Two amazing picks in rounds 1-2 and everyone is fixated on a pick in round 3 they don’t like.

Miserable Pats fans posters are gonna miserable.

**** Billy ****ing Belichick AND Al Groh's ****ing kid to ****ING HELL for this ****ING HORRIBLE ****ING PICK.

And **** ANY of his ****ing deaf, dumb, blind AND ****ING BRAINLESS ****ING LEMMINGS who ****ing try to defend this ****ING GARBAGE.

The QB room is thinking of the head coach. Not happy. When Josh Downs or Darnell Washington or an OT is available, they know Mapoop is Belichick’s way of Bourne-ing them.

OTH, Matt Sokol is still alive.

Yes to everything, prophet Jeremiah. This ridiculous pick left a bad taste in my mouth.

Where is the OT? Next year Reiff and TB need to be resigned. Old guys.

If he’s playing LB as the experts project, he will eventually replace Tavai not Dugger.
No. BB is trying to replace Joejuan Williams, the guy he traded up for in the second round a few years ago.

He’s playing CB?

He’s playing CB?
Did you think Joeslow did much of that? He was drafted to be a nickel and cover TEs like this guy likely will be tasked to do.

Good point.

He was an outside CB.

Starting some player threads to individually discuss each guy.

After Jeremiah opinion i was satisfied

No doubt. But Trent Brown has played well at tackle in the past, as has Onwenu. The endless false starts and missed assignments of last season were surely, to a large extent, the result of poor preparation.
Looks like onwenu might be going back to tackle based on these draft picks

This one gives me Obi Malif-something vibes. I thought he was going to be an effective S/LB against TE’s and RB’s.

This is really the only pick I'm having a tough time being on board with but a lot of people like him and he seems really active.

Just gotta see how it plays out.

Couldn't agree more. They found Phillips and Peppers cheaply and easily. They've got Dugger as well. They haven't exactly struggled to find good players with similar skillsets. This seemed like the 2nd least needed position/role after HB.

I'm not going to get into the "they shoulda picked this guy" but that's exactly my issue. I feel they coulda/shoulda drafted a WR or OT at this spot as those positions need upgrading.

Additionally they have 3 players on the roster who play his position. They need help now!

I don't necessarily have an issue with Mapu the player as he seems like a playmaker but the pick is my issue.

Like I said if he turns out awesome then it's all good.

I guess Darnell Washington wasn’t on their board. Cause he was available at 76.

I don't get the hate for our draft. Aside from no picks on offense, we've got some really good value for the most part. White was ranked as a late first on a number of experts' boards. A number of knowledgeable people like Mapu - Jim Nagy and Daniel Jeremiah - and he could be a Fred Warner type potentially. That's the sort of archetype we've been lusting for at linebacker. We've drafted Jeremiah's 10th, 28th and 73rd ranked players at 17, 46 and 76. That seems pretty good to me.

If we come away from the 4th round with Tyler Scott and Dawand Jones/Nick Saldiveri we'll have had an excellent draft.

I understand the responses completely. Then again, I used to run a daycare. When 2 and 3 year olds don’t get what they want it is very similar.
