Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Status
Not open for further replies.
Butler ADMITTED he wasn’t dialed in to the game plan. That makes it a fact.

He was sick. Can anyone go ahead and break down for me what was so different about the game plan in the Super Bowl vs. any other game that Butler has participated in? You should have enough data to work with considering the guy was involved in 97+% of the defensive snaps in 2017. Not expecting a lot in the way of X's and O's from the "BLARG BILLLLLLLLLL" guys because that's just not what they do, but anyone else is welcome to weigh in.

What the hell is going on?? Playing Richards before him?
Please stop changing the thread title. It's confusing as to what is going on, and why. An explanation might be necessary.

And actually, if you ask me, this thread should be locked by now until something more concrete comes out. TC is starting and all this has become is one appeal to authority after another. It's an absolute embarrassment.

It’s just common sense. If you’ve done something bad enough to be benched for the entire game on defense, you’ve done something bad enough to be benched for the entire game altogether. You don’t dress and have the coach toss you in for a ST snap.

Just because something made Bill play it that way doesn’t mean it was the right call. Proof is in the pudding, brother. 41 points allowed and a big... fat... L.
You keeping dropping the score board like it means something. Either he did something to deserve benching or not the score is not relevant.

I did! And look at what a mess I created.

You didn't create the mess. Most of the stink is being caused by the buffoons that insist on turning every thread into a pissing contest. Bill Belichick is responsible for the rest.

Since the score was directly tied to the secondary's inability to cover Philly's receivers, it's very relevant. You keep asking the same questions and then falling back on an appeal to authority. Use common sense. Anything that deserves a benching for the entire game on defense deserves a benching for the entire game outright. If it was not being "dialed in," please do give me a thorough X's and O's breakdown on why and how the game plan and scheme in the Super Bowl was different than any game plan and scheme Butler has played in with this team.

Forty... one... points.

You tell us. What did he do that was so bad to deserve to be benched on the defense but not special teams?

As far as the defensive game plan, we weren’t running anything different that we ran all year, it’s not like he didn’t know the system.

I’m sorry he should’ve been out there by half#2 when it was obvious the personnel thrown out there to cover the eagles wr weren’t getting the job done (minus Gilmore).

He already answered that. Apparently the ST coach overrode BB and put Butler into the game. Lmao.

Ah so joe judge overrides BB, plays butler and is brought back to the pats for 2018 and beyond a week after his contract expired? Smh

Once I saw the recent praise for Belichick that came from Butler, I realized that Butler must have done something to warrant his benching. Why would Butler go out of his way to praise Belichick if he thought that he was treated unfairly? I don't think he would.

Having said that, I still don't like the way Butler was treated while he was here. I never got the feeling that the Pats wanted him, in spite of his ability to make big plays at big times.

You don't think that BB allows his coaches to make moves on their own? I'm sure that he does.

The post above you just said that due to butlers recent comments he must have done something to warrant his benching.

You honestly think that BB is going to let an asst coach go over his head to play a guy who he benched in the first place?

It was one punt return. They may have neglected to remove him for that one play or they decided not being prepared to play on d didnt affect him playing on punt return.

B.B. either we fine with him playing special teams or it got missed for one play in the shuffle.
You act as if benching butler was some kind of angry retribution. It was just making a decision that the guy wasn’t prepared to play.

If he’s not prepared to play, then he’s not playing period. There’s no need to dress him at all in this case. Sorry I’m not buying that he’s not prepared to play defense but he’s ok to play special teams.

It happened and the coach was rehired.

The thread has taken on a life of its own and doesn't care. It is like a parasite outliving its host.

Says who? Obviously not the people making the decisions.

He dressed because we were short in corners. In my opinion he was cb3 before he melted down when told which was after inactives.
If you aren’t playing because you didn’t learn the defensive gameplan that doesn’t affect special teams. But feel free to give a different explantation that makes sense and jibes with the facts we know.

That sounds reasonable to me.
