And us oldies know what show followed The Love Boat on ABC...

Ricardo Montalban: "Smiles, everyone! Smiles! Our new guest Bill Belichick is going to give a press conference on why he benched Malcom Butler. Welcome to Fantasy Island!"

Can we bring back Danny Woodhead to be Tatoo?

Glitch Richards & Jonny Badmostly are Not better than Malcolm Butler ON ANY DAY.
Bademosi was in some of the games he started.
Richards plays a different position.

Because the Genius and his Ego thought that he could simply out-think the opponent into submission.
That’s stupid.
By your logic, any decision he ever makes is trying to prove he can out think the opponent when all he is trying to do is coach his football team.
In other words they are ego moves because you make up that he acts from ego, then lust his decisions and say they were because of ego. Circular.

Lets see....favorite Ricardo Montalban character...

A. Kahn
B. Mr Roake
C. Ludwig from Naked Gun

A for seriousness. C for fun

Whether it was a monumental lapse in competence or character it cost my favorite team of 40+ years a championship, and it will not be forgiven.
Are you also re-living, by the minute, the coaching brain farts by Pete Carroll and by Dan Quinn that helped hand your favorite team of 40+ years two championships?

I'd guess "no".

Coaches make tough decisions that often do not work out, whether they were reasonable or not. Too many people tend to call the decisions that happen to NOT work out "ego-driven moves" and the ones that do work out "genius moves".

Not losing sleep over a football decision made by someone who has usually excelled at making football decisions. If he screwed up this time, oh well. He's human.

Agree.

What Parcells did here vs GB SB week was 1000 times worse than what BB did.

The Malcolm situation may/may not have been avoidable but Parcells didn't have to be playing footsies with Leon Hess SB week.

I'd go A. Adding to his performance as Kahn was the stark contrast in character to Mr. Roarke. When I saw Star Trek 2 as a kid, all I had seen RM in was Fantasy Island*. Him playing a bad guy was awesome.

I'd add as an honorable mention his coining of the term "rich Corinthian leather" in those 70s Chrysler commercials. Urban legend debates if he or the ad agency invented it, but if it came from him that makes it such a good story.

* I had no idea at the time that the movie was a follow-up of the original series episode featuring him.

Chris

LOL

Rich Corinthian Leather = Vinyl

The guy won you a damn super bowl. To have his career ended like that in a pats uniform is disgraceful in my mind. Again anything less than an assault you play the guy. Bill will never give everyone a straight answer. I am sure there was a rift between butler and bb.

Amazing to think that bill one of the greatest coach off all time didn’t think butler could come up with a play like that. Did he think Richards was gonna make that play?

If anyone is making bad assumptions it is you. You're assuming you can you tell us what an adequate punishment is without knowing what happened to begin with.

An offense that is bad enough to warrant zero snaps on defense also warrants not dressing and surely not playing a ST snap. If it was a practice/illness issue then it’s even worse because it was clear by halftime that the pass defense was getting shedded and they still weren’t stopping the run. At that point, you role the dice. BB opted not to and the result was 41 points allowed and a loss.

I know we are all butthurt from the loss and even more annoyed by no explanation. But to me it comes down to a few simple things do you think Butler did something?

If he did, I don’t see how it was bad enough to warrant zero snaps on defense but 1 ST snap. I also don’t see how it was bad given he was quickly scooped up by the Tits, coached by Vrabel, and given a very handsome contract to boot.

Do you trust BBs only motivation is what's best for the football team?

Sure but when he’s wrong, a spade needs to be called a spade. Pretending like benching Butler wasn’t a mistake with what we know right now is an insult to logic.

I have a feeling Richards is the guy they love he knows the reads smart as a whip but has the athletic upside of a highschool jag.

That’s being complimentary. Tank Ass looks like he’s running with two 50 lb weights on his ankles compared to everyone else out there.

Has the title of this thread changed a couple/few times today? Kind of looking forward to what it may be down the road. Suddenly, I’m interested again.
Any suggestions?

You don't know why Butler was benched so stop pretending you're in a position to tell us what was or wasn't warranted and what was or wasn't a mistake.

And stop it with nothing warrants benching and dressing. Because something made Bill play it that way.

I always know when Richards is on the field because I always see the back of his jersey and an offensive player running away from him.

Every team has a player that continually makes the roster every year that shouldn’t.
