I'd say 1 good game out of 4 in his backup stint is evidence he's a decent backup option at best, nothing more.
Alright, this gets thrown in the stupid post bin. He was a rookie, was a backup, and when he came in outplayed Mac. He struggled against Chicago when he came in, but he was a freaking rookie in his third game??. He may never be the guy, but he played way better than any of the qb's drafted infront of Mac did in their rookie years. He outplayed Mac based upon what Mac did in his second year up to the last few games, and you could easily argue even then Zappe played better. We have absolutely no idea what Zappe will do. I just hate moronic posts like this from the usual suspects.I'd say 1 good game out of 4 in his backup stint is evidence he's a decent backup option at best, nothing more.
He had 1 good game (Browns). So did Mike White. So did Cooper Rush. That's a typical backup QB stint in the NFL. All the evidence we have says that's who he is... a backup just like them. Anything beyond that is wishful thinking or speculation or anti-Mac Jones takes.Alright, this gets thrown in the stupid post bin. He was a rookie, was a backup, and when he came in outplayed Mac.
That's not rooting against him. If I was rooting against him I'd be happy that he was bad against the Bears...
Okhe was bad against the Bears...
If Zappe is outperforming Mac, then the Patriots need to draft a new QB ASAP because that would mean they don't have one.

And Mac's unending ceiling??Yeah, that was kinda my point. I guess anything is possible, but the odds are most likely that if Jones loses the starting job to Zappe is that he has regressed to be a worst back up QB than Zappe. Zappe's ceiling is most likely an excellent back up.
And Mac's unending ceiling??
Rob for your sake I hope Mac doesn't struggle like he did last year. Counting this year it will be his Third Offense in three years lets' hope Bob's Offense doesn't have a steep learning curve for Mac. BB have already elaborated on one of the reasons why they drafted Zappe was for his smarts meaning he wouldn't have a hard time learning or picking up new things. You can point to games in Mac Jones' rookie year where he outplayed Zappe. And you can point to games in his second year where he outplayed Zappe. If Zappe was remotely as good as some people on this board make his play out to be, he would have started over Jones most of last year. If Belichick could pick a sixth round draft pick over a QB he just gave a top of the market extension in the offseason, he most certainly would have benched Jones over Zappe if he truly thought Zappe was clearly better.

I don't think Mac had any issue with any learning curve. I think Mac's issues last season stemmed from the fact that the concepts he had to work with were limited and the audibles/protections he had to go to didn't work the way they were supposed to and I think the offensive line had a similar issue. I think most of - if not all of - that will be fixed this season.Rob for your sake I hope Mac doesn't struggle like he did last year. On the topic of rooting against players on the team, I assume the regular crowd will be out en masse to shout-down this post ... right?
