Mac Jones working out with Nic Shimonek on his strength and conditioning

He can't make all the throws w/ consistent success. Is that better? Throws like: across the grain, from the far hash mark to outside the #s, on the run, etc. He attempts those throws, so theoretically he can make the throw but they don't have the zip or accuracy required to be successful. He floats them. They get picked or are over/under thrown. He's limited. Maybe it's his mechanics. Maybe it's his arm strength. Idk but he definitely can't make all the throws. He's not Rodgers or Mahomes, two guys that can make all the throws.

He made all the throws with consistent enough success to amass the comparative stats below. As always you are trying too hard to find fault with a young player still learning the pro game and honing his physical/mental talents. "He's a pick machine! Bad mechanics! Limited! Weak arm that floats the ball! He doesn't like seafood! Prefers dogs over cats! BLAH, BLAH, BLAHBIDDY BLAH!"

Just give it a rest and give him a chance this coming season. Let yourself root for him to do well. It will play itself out one way or the other.

Mac Jones first two seasons: 66.5 completion percentage, 36 touchdowns, 24 picks.

Josh Allen first two seasons: 55.4 completion percentage, 30 touchdowns, 21 picks.

If you love him so much then why didn't you try to - gee I don't know - protect him better and not commit so many stupid ****ing penalties, you ****ing lazy, fat pile of poo?

Bill really, Really needs to tell this guy to either accept a Massive paycut or hit the ****ing bricks.

that dude looks BIG

how fast is his 40 time?

We'll know soon enough... If we choose a LEFT Tackle with our first pick AND have made some improvements at WR AND Outside CB before the draft, then Washington might very well be my #1 target for our 2nd pick... Dude could impact Both the running And passing attacks...

Absolutely. Patricia and Judge were spread too thin and were really bad.

That said Patricia and his meatball stained playsheet have nothing to do with his inconsistent mechanics, decision making, failure to handle sudden pressure/blitz/2nd level blitz and so on. We saw some of those issues before Chumley came along. Even as far back as coming out of college.

I think thats something Mac apologist dont get. It's ok to critique Mac. Admit he had a bad year as well as Patricia. They're not mutually exclusive. Sure Patricia was "worse" at what he was tasked with doing but Mac doesn't get a "free pass" when conditions erode or things get tough.
Do you think Patricia started to pull things together towards the end. At least developing to something resembling an NFL OC?

People want to give Mac 3 years but Patricia isn't permitted a year to start figuring things out as a 1st year OC with no apparent background in it.

hit the road Trent and Isaiah

No he isn't.

Get stronger Mac, prepare to fight for your job in training camp next season! We'll see if you've got what it takes to up your game to the next level cos this year was a huge step BACK!
Yes this. He needs to be stronger, avoid contact better and see the field better. I still think Mac has what it takes to be a franchise QB. I was onboard with Zappy when he was hot and I think it was wrong for the Patriots to go away from that. No excuses in 2023.

When have OCs who have failed as bad as Patricia did last year ever been given a second year. Again, if Belichick was any other coach, not only would Patricia been fired but so would Belichick. I think last year’s offensive disaster probably puts Belichick on the hotseat next season.

And based on the Herald story, Patricia was just as lost at the end of the season as he was at the beginning.

Patricia doesn’t deserve a second year to ruin the offense and thank God he isn’t getting one.

Last off season Mac got rid of his baby fat. This off season he needs to get his arm and entire body stronger. Because we can see that one off season of conditioning was definitely not enough. Especially not with Matt Patricia as the OC!
To get a stronger arm you have to work on your legs, that's what TB did his first year here, they wanted him to work on his arm strength and he said he did it by strengthening his legs.

100%, often shoulder injuries from throwing are caused by weak glutes and legs. When drafted Mac was in pretty poor shape which i always find remarkable given he was a college athlete and knew he was going to be drafted, same goes for Tom. Mac has improved his condition but not enough for me.

I would also add that he’s a veteran coach, not a young player. He doesn’t get two years to screw up.

The idea that you should let a coach learn how to coach offense on the fly while being absolutely the worst at it. And give him another year! Is a comical take.

If the coach did not have the name Belicheck. Everyone including the head coach would be fired. I'm not sure people get how bad that herald article was. If this was the Jets we would be laughing at them for days. We laughed at the urban meyer situation with the Jags. This is the same type of clown show.

We just don't want to believe our team would do such dumb things we laugh at others about

I continue to be gobsmacked by this. It makes no sense on a dedicated fan site where it normally is assumed people are invested in wanting to see the team and its players succeed collectively as well as individually. Yet, we have people making declarations a la "Mac Jones is not my quarterback!" and investing time daily trashing the kid way, way, WAY beyond due criticism. It's downright weird, driven in part by not knowing what to look for assessing QB play.

This is just ridiculous. He can, he has and he does make "all the throws." He just doesn't throw them as hard and fast as Josh Allen. And guess what? After Buffalo's playoff loss to Cincy, fans were piling on Allen saying his mechanics sucked and he couldn't "make all the throws." Don't look now but Mac Jones' career completion percentage is 4 points higher than Allen's.

It's very strange. It's like some fans would rather the pats fail and Mac to look bad to vindicate their narrative whatever that may be.

I don't know if Mac is the guy or zappe or someone not on the roster yet. But as a fan I hope Mac turns it around and we can watch good football. I'm not rooting for him to fail.

This narrative he can't make the throws is an odd one too as we saw him make many deep passes this year that looked just fine

The key difference being Mac has been a QB all his life and took us to playoffs and is on rookie contract .

We don't use rookie QB seasons to test if an OC is cut out for it. OC needs to do the job right outta the gate .

Comparing apples to oranges here...

Not really. The D and the running game did. That’s why when the defensive performances started to slip we couldn’t win a game.

I mean he didn't screw up enough like Zach . He played decently while Patricia made the offensive side regress a bunch

less receptions and yards, but more touchdowns
Um, you cut out all of my reasoning for these statements.

Talking about Meyers here, more TDs by 200%, which is significant. Meyers accounted for 32% of the team's receiving TDs. Yes, he had less overall yards but that's not as significant as yards per game, which went up this season. Same with receptions.

It wasn't a huge regression, but he did regress. Was a huge regression in terms of touchdowns
Henry wasn't deployed effectively in the red zone. Poor scheme, poor reads by Mac, whatever, the targets weren't there.

his injuries were a factor, we were definitely hoping for more than this kind of production from a veteran like him
Why? Mac and Patricia. Need I say more?

Wish he would take Tap Dancing lessons. Work on his footwork to make them lighter. OK on his shuffle back, but slow on his Flip to step up, and movement inside the Pocket. Brady for a big guy, had some of the lightest feet you could see. Had to work constantly on this. It showed. Jones strength is accuracy. NFL game that is huge, I am not a Jones fan. But, he could improve. He's trying at least.
