Mac Jones is the Starter [Update - Mac is starting vs the Jete, says BB]

I can’t stand that slob, I knew things would go to **** when he was brought back, even before he was slated to be the OC. Just having him part of the franchise is a curse.

Lot of obsession with head. Can't tell if he's giving or getting. Probably both.

yeahhh, someone's obsessed.

That's because Brees was 3'5" tall and completely hidden behind his OL, making it difficult for DL to see him. He was known for throwing rainbow hailmary passes because he couldn't see over the line. He refused to allow his real height to be documented.

So, I think Zappe has a chance.
"Drew Brees, Quarterback, Stone 'Enge."

Odds on Zappe getting some snaps Sunday?

If Belichick makes Jones the starter after taking him off the injury report and then pulls him during the game, he will look worse than Jones. The only way Zappe plays on Sunday is if there is a blow out either way. If Jones stinks up the joint, there is at least a decent chance Zappe would be starting against the Colts.

By that time the playoffs are less than a Hail Mary of a chance.

Then start Zappe then on Sunday. You can't be playing musical chairs with the starting QB position. If Belichick doesn't think Jones can handle the starting role, the you pull him and start someone else. This starting Jones and pulling him at the first sign of trouble multiple games in a row is the same crap we have laughed at with other teams for two decades. Actually with Bledsoe, three decades.

I think if Belichick thought Zappe was the best choice to start, he would be starting on Sunday. After the Bledsoe/Brady thing and the Malcolm Butler thing in the Super Bowl, you really think he would be gun shy to pull Jones and play Zappe less than a week after Gillette stadium had deafening chants for Zappe?

The starting QB job is Jones' to lose. Clearly Belichick thinks he is the better QB. But Belichick is giving himself an out if Jones continues to struggle and turn over the ball.

Completely agree but if we lose this game to the Jets we should be selling anyone with 1 year left on their current deal or veterans over 30.

Super unpopular but moving Judon could make some sense he is only getting older and he is at his prime now.
We are at worst getting a second for him.

He had a bad ankle sprain and he still isn't 100%...give the kid a break.

More games?

I mean, take away Mac's one long throw last week in his opening quarter, and realize that Mac has played 3 games, not 7 games.

There's a world of difference between 3 and 7
That's why I acknowledged some had played more games. Not all those QBs played 7 games.

Now some of these QBs have played more games than Mac,

The numbers I previously posted were for 20+, 30+, 40+ & 50+ combined. I should've used only the 20+ since they include the others. Here's the breakdown sorted by 20+ yard passes per game. It shows Mac (3.3 per game) is in the top third behind 11 other QBs, including Zappe (3.5 per game). The mean per game value is 2.8 so he's above average.

Given the reaction to the per game measure, I looked at it as number of pass attempts per deep pass, which I'm not sure can be disputed. Below is sorted by least # of pass attempts per deep throw. Surprisingly, Zappe is #1, where he throws deep every 6.6 passes. Mac is at #4 (throws deep every 7.9 passes). The mean value is 11.2, so these guys are well above the average. Zappe, Tua, & Fields throw deep balls more frequently than Mac. That's crazy.

Hot Take: Why is Patricia making Zappe throw deep so frequently? Doesn't seem fair. He should have him throwing deep every 18.1 passes like Pickett (only other rookie).

But wait. Turns out Zappe is pretty accurate with the deep ball: 64% completion, 2 TD / 0 INT.
Maybe that's what Patricia is looking for in the starting QB. Someone that can challenge & stress the defense and score easy TDs.

Pretty weird. What's next:

Don't look at me.
Don't talk to me.

Careful, he's not listed in the injury report.
