Mac and the "It Factor"

I wonder if future top-prospects will prefer to get drafted elsewhere so they don’t have to play in Tom’s shadow. This is the one downside to justifiably giving the man a statue. Lost the game you needed to win to get into the playoffs? A stone/bronze Brady statue looms over you and your failures as you leave the stadium.

I like Parcell’s style of team-building for the Patriots. Draft for a simplified game with good protection and a good defense, target specific qualities in a QB, don’t chase college highlight reels of flashy **** you know will be a pick-6 in the NFL.

Not to go full arm-chair but I think a lot of NFL quarterback scouts are charlatans grandfathered into the job. I don’t watch college but sometimes it’s painfully obvious some of these 1st round picks are going to be busts or journeyman.

They may also not want to play here because they are never going to get elite receivers out around them to prop them up

As long as Bill is around they are going to be given bottom of the barrel OL and receivers and told to make it work.

If Tua or Purdy were on this team we would talk of them the same way IMO.

Yeah, I just hate moving him and then having to get a veteran to start the season because those guys are almost always terrible.
LOL, I hear you. But at the same time, it's going to make more sense from the other team's perspective to have Mac ahead of minicamps, OTAs etc. to learn the offense to get the most in return. Would be tough to try and do that a few weeks into the season and there's no way they're going to lose him and not get anything in return.

It's so frustrating because there are moments where I go, Mac is really good, but then he turns into McEnroe, except McEnroe was actually clutch with all that fire (I was more of a Lendl and Connors fan at the time). It was like watching good Cam (7 wins and 20 for 21 throwing to start one game) vs bad Cam (8 losses can't make a throw to the gorram flat 5 yds in front of him) in 2020. Still can't believe Cam 2020 had a better record than Mac 2022. That's like the Mendoza line for the Pats at this point.

Tua and Purdy would be more productive and better culture-builders, which Mac clearly fails at.

I’m starting to come around on the moving on from Belichick if he hangs on to Mac Jones/fails with a new QB next year, mainly because I think it might just be time to completely turn the page on the Dynasty Decades. The New England culture is stale AF and also clawless without Brady. Time for a team that has zero connection to the old teams.

How would they be more productive? Parker and Juju aren't suddenly turning into hill and waddle or Deebo and mccafrey.

And Bill will fail with a different QB unless the talent changes and upgrades on offense.

You are not winning in today's NFL with a bunch of #3 receivers. As giardi said "stink, stank, stunk" then got attacked by everyone..

That means ditching absolutely everyone. Jerod Mayo, Bill O'Brien, you'd have to find a coach from the outside and a completely new staff. I don't know if that's happening.

How many years can we watch bill put out a mediocre offense talent and keep blaming everyone but Bill?

That's not to say Mac is the guy. But if you just replace Mac and keep this roster the same. We are still losing all these games.

I was going to back step but I honestly think Mayo would still be turning a page. It might be a “connection” but it’s a completely new dynamic. As long as Belichick is the coach, it’s the on-going thing.

It's more about the roster building strategy than coaching IMO.

Bill has ignored the offense for so many years and the chickens have just come home to roost. Whether through poor drafting, free agent decisions or just not wanting to invest in the offense.

This started in end of 2018 when he gave Brady Ben Watson/sanu and NewHouse as his tackle.

I didn't get to see the game yesterday. Anniversary. I never played or coached football. My only experience is about 70 years of watching it. Tonight, I watched the entire portion Mac played. I rewound, stopped and advanced frame by frame. I know everyone thinks Bill is the problem, and the team is not good enough. First the OL has 2 guys playing that are inexperienced and more intended to be break glass options. Their CB's were injured and not available. However, Mac was really bad. He seldom ever sets his feet and throws the ball with conviction. He bails when he should stand tall and make the throw. The 5 yard out was there nearly all night, visible at the snap. He is supposed to be accurate and cerebral. Personally, I don't see either of those. He might be accurate if he had proper mechanics and put some zip on the ball. He doesn't have a big arm but it should be adequate but he throws soft balls. His smarts don't come across to me at all. This team as been a QB away from competitive for 3 years. The real Mac to me is the one who moved slightly up in the pocket and tossed a dump off to Rham that travelled 3 yards and fell 2 yards short of Rham. Frankly, I have no hope he will ever be the guy. If Will Grier or Malik Cunningham aren't competent then we will be in this same rut again. There is nobody out there. The ultimate slam was when people on GET UP were saying at least Kyle Wilson has an arm and some potential, they couldn't say the same about Mac.

He learned everything from Bill at the pro level and a lot of the principles and values would hold true, so it wouldn't be the new dynamic you're looking for. Especially if you're saying you want no connection or relation to the previous regime. So he would have to go as well.

Sounds like Mac will crap the bed again and hand Zappe another sht sandwich… like he received in the Chicago game last season.

It’s garbage. Give Zappe stater reps in practice and let him cook, otherwise make Mac play the entire game no matter how bad he does.

If Mac is too fragile to play an entire game and turns to jelly again, you may as well cut him the next day and poach some other team’s practice squad for a backup.

IF Mac gets the Lions share of the snaps this week then BB is tanking.

It's a lot easier to find an elite receiver to prop up your young QB than vice versa.

Mac may never be more than a backup. But the offensive talent isn't doing him any favors.

You can win games with average QBs. But talent needs to be around them. See Goff, Daniels, tannehill..
Yet someone was on here just looking at Detroit on offense. It's not all that impressive. One could easily argue that Detroit relies on Goff to manage the game. I'm not saying we don't need a top WR. Im sure every single one of the coaches would love one.

I disagree.

I’m not a “oh Brady should still be here” guy. He’s gone I’m fine with that.

However, if even the 2019 version of Brady were on this roster with two very decent TEs, he would absolutely chew up the pass rush which would allow for the WR to get some space and holes to open up for the RBs

They’d almost certainly be 3-1 right now and possibly 4-0. Dallas was a hard one, but unless Brady spotted them a quick 14 points in the first qtr with bonehead plays, the entire game could have gone differently.

Dallas still probably would have won but it definitely wouldn’t have been 38-3

Zappe went 4-9 for 57 yards and 6.1 completion ypc

He is not cooking. No one is cooking in this offense. That's not a defense of Mac. It's just reality.

The deflection from Bills roster building from fans is in extreme mode.
