Likely Receiving core: What do you think?

I don't know about all that but maybe 800-1000 yards and 6 touchdowns which is still very much worth the veteran minimum deal and the potential risk.

When he was playing for Manning, he was on pace for something like 1400 yards and 20 TDs one season before he got the concussion bug. Granted he may never be able to actual reach that production, but I can see if he can regain that form and stay healthy my numbers I statedare very much possible. Unfortunately, the odds of him regaining that form and staying healthy are very low.

You forgot Austin Collie. Big injury risk. But if he can stay healthy (and that is a really big if), he can be an elite WR in this system. His a low risk, high reward type of player. Unfortunately, you cannot rely on him playing 16 games.

You figure the Patriots are still short an oft-injured slot receiver?

I am talking about a sixth or seventh WR, not a if the Pats are carrying 5 WRs. Only if they can afford to take a shot. The Pats have carried 7 WRs before.

Why would we need to add another slot receiver, Rob?

If we hadn't resigned Edelman, I'd be slightly more interested. In this case though, I don't see much need for a guy like Collie--unless you're going to use him as camp fodder, and I suspect we already have Ebert to take over the brunt of the hits in a "developmental" way

Like I said I'd give him a workout at the very least and if something was there I'd give him the contract you suggested I just don't know if he can be relied on even if he came in healthy. One shot to the head and he could never play the game again or worse.

I would be surprised if the Patriots carried more than 5 WRs.

Collie split time in the slot with Gonzalez and spent time outside he has decent size at 6'0. I just don't see him as a fit because I think he is in a similar situation to Nick Collins last year. Might be healthy but one hit and he has serious long term health issues.

Lloyd was a pretty bad player. He was the functional equivalent of a chucker in the NBA - a player whose production reflects volume, not efficiency. He dropped balls regularly, didn't get open regularly, wasn't a downfield threat at all, and his inability to run after the catch is the stuff of legend. No teams rushed to sign the guy after the Patriots let him go.

I don't disagree with any of this. Unfortunately, he was still the best outside guy we had.

What's the last day to give an offer sheet to an RFA?

Silly of me, I know, but I'm still hoping for DA, knees and all.

Austin Collie really should never play football again for his own health.

I heard any team that signs austin collie also needs to buy a new CT scanner.

Some sort of package deal in his contract to verify his brain has been gelatized.

All I see is an injury prone worst version of welker and castoffs/unknowns.

Collie is going to get an one year veteran minimum deal. They can definitely keep him on the roster and still draft a WR or even two high if they choose to. If Collie can stay healthy, he could be a 1,200-1,300 yard receiver with 10 plus TDs .

I wouldn't give him any more than an one year, veteran minimum deal like Jenkins got, but he is worth kicking the tires on.

I just don't see the Pats signing a guy like Collie, not unless they completely whiff in the draft.

They need big physical pass-catchers and this draft is full of guys who fit that physical profile. Even in the 5th-7th-round range there will be some physically explosive players, guys like Charles Johnson and Courtney Gardner. The Pats have been out-toughed at the WR position a few years in a row and letting Lloyd go really suggests they won't go for a player who can't dish out a beating, as opposed to taking one. Donald Jones, his best quality is he's a tough runner with the ball. Jenkins is a very good downfield blocker. I just don't see a finesse white guy with injury problems making the roster.
