Let's talk Trade DOWN options

While I'd love to trade down if we don't have a player we'd like and i'd try to (I honestly don't think it will come to that) I don't see how we trade down in the worst case scenario.

Everyone knows we aren't taking Sanders... And while Trevor Lawrence has been disappointing, the Jags aren't willing to give up on him yet. And with their contract with him he's there till 2028. So is there a player the Jags DESPERATELY need at 5 who won't be there a little lower? I don't think so. So why trade with us when the Jags are a bit lower and will cost less to trade with due to being the 5th pick instead of the 4th?

I mean it really shouldn't matter, as you should go by the draft board tiers more than the trade value chart... but GMs need to be able to explain things to their owners... So that is the chart they go by to prove the trade wasn't bad. And both sides tend to kinda honor it more or less. And their 5th pick is 100 points less than ours. So why would a team spend the extra capital?

The only reason would be if another team is competing to trade up at a higher price. But will there be? What teams are in position to do so? Maybe the Jets and Raiders get in a bidding war? Sadly if Sanders falls past the top of the draft a lot of teams who would be willing to trade up for him are out of the running. Which is why i don't think he will fall out of the first 3 picks.

Teams may not like it, but it's him or nothing. And i think there is a strong case to be made he is worth a top 3 pick.

If someone trades up to 5, they still run the risk of another team leapfrogging them to 4. so our pick would still have a bit of value to anyone who likes sanders that much. They can try waiting until after we pick, but again theyd run the risk of someone else trading with us and getting him at 4. Itll all depend how much people like sanders, there could be a couple teams crazy about him and there could be no market at all. If its the latter then yeah most likely we’ll just have to stay put.

Hear me out:

Cowboys get:

#4 and Tavai

Patriots get:
#12, #44, and DE Parsons

We get our edge, Micah gets a new contract and we can still grab a LT or WR with #12. Kill 2 birds with one stone!

I’m a HUGE Warren fan, he’s just an unbelievable weapon from the TE position. I feel he can change an offense just like a good WR can. He’s not just a good TE, he can run the wildcat (former QB), he’s even run the ball like a RB. So versatile, like a Swiss Army knife. Also an excellent blocker.

Warren is a stud. He can be a great red zone threat for us. Ideally you pick him after a trade down, but if a trade down is not available, i'd rather the Pats take him over any of the OL or Tet at #4 if Hunter or Carter have already been picked.

I’m all over on Tet, I ask myself is he Harry or Mike Evans?

Why would Dallas do that?

If hunter is available at 4, is there anybody below us (new orleans?) that is desperate enough to overpay for a wide receiver????

Perfect offensive draft if Hunter & Carter are off the board

There is no requirement that we demand more for 4 than the Jags want for 5.
And the difference is pretty minor. Whatever the team in question has to offer is going to basically be the same for 4 or 5.
They can’t offer 38 to sweeten the deal to get to 4 instead of 5 if they have 41.
If you choose a team and look at what’s closest on the value chart to 4 or 5 it’s pretty much the same package. Maybe you throw in a late pick which we could easily waive to get the deal done.
That team would rather get to 4 for their guy than trade to 5 with the risk we trade 4 to someone else.

Since we didn’t trade down last year, it becomes almost an imperative this year. Players 20-60 are all about the same draft-wise.

Do you want a Travis Hunter or a Josh Simmons/Jayden Higgins/future second-rounder?

Phuck the “generational” talent.

You are assuming you will be able to trade up. What if nobody wants to trade down from 20s. The. You are stuck with so and so player in 10s or 20s and some middling prospects in late 30s.

Take the BPA. No reason to panic about "needs" and try to fill all of the holes this year. Be patient, take the All Pro (like we did with Gonzo and Maye), and fill out the roster over 2 years. If we had the #1 pick it would be different, but Mayo screwed us.

Hunter. That’s it. Best player in the draft. Then Carter. If neither is there, trade down a few sports, pocket an extra 2nd or 3rd+ and take Membou.

Perfect offensive draft if Hunter & Carter are off the board

Membou is a RT
Golden is 5-11
We need a LT and we do not need another smurf

This would not be a good draft

Ok here's a trade UP scenario for you.... If CLE really wants Carter like everyone says...
And NYG are taking Sanders or Hunter..

Say CLE offer a swap of 2 for 4 + Milton.
NE guarantee Travis Hunter, and CLE stills gets their guy at 4 plus a QB with big upside.... win/win right?

At this point, would you take that? CLE surely would.

We aren't giving up draft capital, just a player who hopefully never sees meaningful game action for us again. (albeit a solid backup option).

Say you don't make that trade and it goes Ward, Carter, Hunter.... well now we missed out on both elite prospects.
