Let's talk Trade DOWN options

The concern I have is that they are reliant on the following to want to move up:
5) Jacksonville Jaguars
6) Las Vegas Raiders
7) New York Jets
8) Carolina Panthers
9) New Orleans Saints
10) Chicago Bears

There's no guarantee they want to part with any draft capital at all.
Unless there's a bidding war for Shadeur Sanders. That's the only reason we would trade down, if both Hunter and Carter are gone.

That means Sanders is the guy sitting at #4. How desperate are the QB hungry teams, and how high does bidding go?

If two of the top 3 teams go Ward/Sanders. Then we are left with a no-brainer choice of the either Hunter or Carter.

Full and Complete List of LTs in the NFL since 2000 with an arm length shorter than 33 inches:

Arm length advocates like to move the goal posts. Like I wrote above, this metric was once 34, now it is 33. How did that happen?

Campbell’s arm length is 32 5/8. So 3/8 of an inch in arm length is an absolute predictor of failure at LT? Then why is Campbell one of the top 5-10 prospects in the draft? Since he is definitely going to be a guard at best, he should be a late 1st round pick at best then, right?

Interesting. The 3 tackles that impressed me most at the Senior Bowl were Belton, Pierce and Trapilo in that order. Zabel was far and away the best but i dont put him in the tackle category.

And there are a lot of tackles with longer arm length who never made it.

The big cutoff used to be 34” and now it’s 33. Why? It’s obvious. It’s just one metric among many, not the perfect predictor. Ask Callahan, Dante or most other OL coaches. It reminds me of when they said Deion couldn’t tackle.
Deion?

Deion WOULDNT tackle

To be clear. Here were the top performers of that list. And oh look, Simmons, Membou, Milum, Conerly, and Banks are right up there! Most of these guys will drop to late 1st early 2nd.

Will Campbell looks mediocre in comparison.
We don't need to spend #4 on a mediocre tackle who might have to be kicked in to guard to find our LT of the future.

Matt Light's Arm length was 33.5 and he managed to be a solid tackle. He was above the 33" threshold.
Campbell's arm length at 32.5 is 6th percentile in his draft class. It's shockingly poor for a tackle.

This is such an absurd argument. I give up.

If they don't/can't take Hunter at 4

Trade down for Tyler Warren. Thinking he'll be there between 7-15

Gotta come out with a play-making TE and a player Drake can grow with.

Use draft capital to draft best avail LT low in 1st rd, high in 2rd

Here's a trade down idea:

Saints get:
#4
QB Joe Milton

Patriots get:
#9
#40
WR Chris Olave
Reports are Saints are happy with Rattler, while they have been mocked taking Jaxson Dart. I just don't see them dealing for Milton when they have a young, developmental guy on the roster. Why they are being mocked to take Dart is beyond me for the same reason.

is there anybody in this draft worth trading up to number 1 or 2 for????
Is cam ward really worth multiple picks????

I have to say, I’ve never been a fan of the trade down strategy. The Pats got EXTREMELY lucky in the Gonzalez trade down in 2023. They were lucky that the Washington brain trust were morons. I’ve seen way too many trade downs that were a disaster for the team trading down, especially on the Patriot’s end of things since I became a Pat’s fan in 1975.

The infamous Jerry Rice trade down. So many I can list that didn’t work out for the Pats. The reason being, you’re trading away the chance to get a higher rated, maybe even an elite player, to draft players that aren’t rated a as good.

I’m a HUGE Warren fan, he’s just an unbelievable weapon from the TE position. I feel he can change an offense just like a good WR can. He’s not just a good TE, he can run the wildcat (former QB), he’s even run the ball like a RB. So versatile, like a Swiss Army knife. Also an excellent blocker.

I'm onboard!
