Left Tackle will be huge ongoing problem for Pats this season

Huh?

Love the optimism but lets not put the cart before the horse. Strange was often a liability last season. Given the clusterphuck coaching ensemble that Dear Leader subjected his offense to, the players deserve the benefit of the doubt, especially the first-year OL like Strange who were saddled with a double dose of Patricia as "coordinator", OL coach, and bobo. That being said, Strange was at times physically overmatched in one-on-ones and questions about his lower body strength are legit. Strange's high draft position likely had much to do with his athleticism that would fit the zone blocking scheme the team was attempting to transition to. If BB/O'Brien opt to emphasize their tradition gap scheme, Strange may lack the stoutness to thrive in that scheme. Time will tell. Hopefully everyday this past offseason was 'leg day' for Strange. And hopefully he didn't hire Shawn Crable's leg guy.
Did you just imply belichick is Kim jong il?

He also arrived at mandatory OTA in such poor shape that he could only stay on the field for a few minutes, total.
You know this based on what… a picture you saw from afar?

He wants a new contract, this is how the game is played.

Manboobs, thin arms, expansive gut. Disinterested approach after arriving late. The weather excuse. So come other than last minute, Mr Multimillionaire.

What more do you want? I’d rather trade this lazy, fat player to the Jets for Mekhi Becton, who has almost never seen the field in two years after being taken #11 from Louisville. But at least he’s fit.

Why? Nobody here is being paid 20 million a year to make those decisions.
I’m not asking anybody to correctly pick the good players. I just want confirmation that the Patriots’ moves are being compared to what the real alternatives were and not to some Madden create-a-player that probably doesn’t exist, because that’s sure what it sounds like right now.

Trent Brown became a big guy this offseason, prior to that he was a lean mean fighting machine… sounds legit.

Every year some vet in the final year of his contract skips OTA’s… there is nothing different about this at all.

LT is all Calvin Anderson right now. I am hoping he can be at least serviceable. But the front office of the Patriots needs to get off its ass.

They rolled the dice with Ferentz when Karras left. Not smart.

They could have resigned Wynn for LT only. He was obviously pissed last year being moved.

Captain Stone makes a good case about last year. Bringing in Marcus Cannon proved to be an ineffective desperation move because they didn’t pick up a player like Max Scharping.

It’s also not a gigantic issue because they drafted stud prospects in Mafi, Jake Andrews and already had a plus athlete in Kody Russey. They have a lot of interior depth.... What everyone seemingly forgets is that Onwenu could kick out to RT in a pinch. They don’t want to, probably won’t have to… but they could.
...
Some combination of Trent Brown, Calvin Anderson, Sidy Sow, Riley Reiff, Conor McDermott or Mike Onwenu will be great assuming health.
Correct, we're good at OT. We have 3 guys with years of experience at LT, plus a promising rookie with college experience. We also have 5 guys with years of experience at RT if you include Onwenu. And plenty of depth at G/C. It's a good group.

Trent Brown and Anderson are the first two options at LT. Brown is dominant when he’s dialed in. He is in a contract year, the motivation is baked in. If he flinches or acts like a fool over his contract they’ll move on, Brown isn’t going to get an extension that way.

Ferentz is going to be 34, he knew the offense last season as it were. They also had Kody Russey make the roster, he and Jake Andrews are the future.

Wynn is toast.

There were a bunch of overpriced free agents they could have signed, Calvin Anderson was a great value signing because of his draft pedigree and coming from a poor team.

I suspect we’re nitpicking at this point because there’s nothing else to talk about until camp starts.

Questions about the OT position abound, and legitimately so. HOWEVER.......

1. Reports about DE's easily running around OT at the OTA is simply LUDICROUS. Of COURSE they will run around them in a NO contact practice. How can they not.

2. you cannot ignore that in the 7 games Anderson started last year he SEEMED to have done very well statistically. One sack and just a few hurries (I don't remember the exact number) allowed in 7 games is a good job. Why is this being dismissed.

3. David Andrews WAS one of the better C's in the league and someone who subscribes to the site might fill in the numbers, but just 2 sacks in close to 800 snaps and a 7.8 rating (which I THINK is pretty good for PFF) So any upgrades to the position will be on the depth side and the future. We are just fine at C

4. We are also fine at OG, assuming Strange makes a 2nd year leap and Owenu is healthy. Again the depth and competition at the position will be very healthy.

5. You never know what surprised emerge from TC. Who knows if someone like Stuber, or Sow emerge as this season's version of Kopin, Mason, or Owenu. You never know. Today's questions might find some VERY good answers

Yeah, it’s the slow time. But with Trent Brown looking like a tub of goo, the position group suddenly looks dicey.

And TB has a history of doing this. Why the Pats FO felt confident with him at LT, backed up by promising CA, can be looked at for what it likely is: a foolish gamble.

TB’s LT days should be behind him. His diminishing skill set is better suited at RT.

And there is a reason there are strict weight clauses in his contract. On his own lack of motivation he would go through life as an overweight dude.

He should be working out in Foxboro year round if he were smart. Going back to Texas and watching tv, playing video games, going out to eat with the gold digger, and munching on copious piles of snacks is what’s happening now.

But TB is not smart.

Agreed.. I've said this many times.. Trent Brown showed 1 dominant season in '18.. he got his 60 million and retired from football.. it's so frustrating as he's our most physically imposing OL and it just looks like football is a not a priority to him.. if it were he'd be in shape and come in committed to the process...

We have 4 solid starters, include Brown at RT. We have backups Sow, Anderson, Andrews/Russey and Mafi/Hines, with McDermott as backup RT.

Some mediocre players? No, Klemm has to coach up ONE player to start at LT.

If Bill were to trade for starting LT tomorrow, we would talk about making a solid line out of mediocre players.

The BOTTOM LINE is simple. Our posters think that we have a terrible line because we Bill ha only acquired Reiff and Anerson so far at LT.
We are not mediocre at LG, C, RG or RT.
=======================
Reiff, Anderson
Strange, Sow
Andrews, Andrews, (Russey)
Onwenu, Mafi/Hines
Brown, McDermott

This is NOT Brown and a bunch of mediocre players. Sign an OT to upgrade whichever OT leaves and this is a solid OL, our worst unit, but still a solid OL.

The Right Tackle position has a better chance to be solid than the Left Tackle position does, but that's still to be determined... And we have no real idea what version of Trent Brown will show-up at TC... Maybe he's satisfied with the money he's already made, and doesn't feel that the effort it will take to earn the rest if it is worth the bother...

Observations from those who were there.
Brown came in on the last day and did basic conditioning, that was the only thing to report.

Real football doesn't begin until the pads come on.
