Krafts Have a Decision To Make on GM

I remember vividly I did not want Bill.

I do remember around TC in 2000 liking what the Tuna hold-overs were saying and it was mostly positive in the sense they were saying hes tough, we work hard, etc whereas from the Carroll era there was a lot of complaining and deflecting accountability (like we are kinda hearing now)

Nope. Hes gone. He wants 100% control over his program. Either that or he retires.

I think he wants the 18 wins to be the all time leader but he won't sacrifice what he believes in to get it.
I think it was one or more of the NY reporters who were calling Bill unstable. And one here who called him duplicitous pond scum. What does that mean anyway? It's like dog faced pony soldier in that I have no idea what it means and no interest in finding out.

I don't see retirement. I just don't think he wants to give up on a record that's so close. His age will be a factor in that. When I was 71 I sure didn't feel like working. I didn't at 61 either. But if what you say is true, that he won't sacrifice what he believes in then he might move to another team. I bet there are teams that would be willing to give him control.

And if he leaves and the Pats can't win and it's an AFC team that I like, then it's Let's Go Bill. He earned that.

I remember wanting someone with a more successful track record. I had nothing against Bill. Unlike that prick Kevin Mannix.

Yep. I have no idea what hes thinking but as of right now I think he still wants to coach...just his way.

At this point scrap it all. Mac needs a change of scenery and to me there is no point keeping him with a rookie behind him. He has shown over and over he doesn't have the mental makeup to step up when facing adversity so I don’t think a rookie would motivate him to step up. Back up the Brinks truck for Ben Johnson and pair him with Lions assistant GM Ray Agnew and let them pick the next QB and sign Bridgewater to help coach the kid up on the offense.

I love the idea but I will see your Bridgewater and Raise you Drew Lock or Mitch Trubisky,
No on backing up a Brinks truck for Kirk Cousins.

Kraft needs to get a GM who
My prediction is Bill caves for his sons and comes to a comprise with Bob to allow Pioli, Dimetroff or Robinson to return as now the sole GM of the team. They best understand Bill, but will find guys who actually have talent.

Bob is really dreading firing Bill.

No offense, but what you are saying is Belichick would be willing to step aside at GM to allow Kraft to install a GM who will pick the players Belichick wants to pick. You bring back Pioli, Dimitroff or Robinson and they are just going to do what Bill wants. They aren't going to force players on Belichick. They may push back on some of the players Belichick wants, but they are not going to go away from Belichick's philosophy on players.

And I think Kraft is a businessman through and through and would fire Jonathan if it was best for the team and his business. I think up to now, Kraft thought firing Belichick might be bad for business. I think he probably no longer thinks that. He let Brady walk rather than over rule Belichick on his contract.

I remember watching the presser where he resigned as the HC of the NYJs and laughing my ass off.

I100% hated Pete Carroll, so I was open to Bill, but mostly because he wasn't Pete. I remember reading Milloy talking about how they were happy to have him and thought it would be ok. Obviously had no clue how it would work, but I liked Parcells minus the way he left, so I thought he'd be maybe close to that level.

So thats an interesting thought.

At the end of camp he'll be 36 years old coming off Achilles surgery. I can't imagine he'll be expecting a big payday.

A good stop-gap if they draft a franchise QB and give him a year to get adjusted to NFL life.

I'm okay getting Cousins as the Alex Smith while we look for the QB of the future next year or so.

I loved Tuna and loved how he ran a team.

At the time I felt the Krafts were kind of a joke. They forced Tuna out (Tuna didn't help matters) hired that clown Pete Carroll (who I also couldn't stand with his over-the-top enthusiasm) and heres Bob trying to move the team to CT because hes trying to squeeze Emperor "Montgomery Burns" Finnegan. Hes at a combine with a stopwatch for Tebucky Jones' workout and getting embarrassed by Lisa Guerrero on MNF when hes 3 sheets to the wind.

Bill gave them credibility. They owe him a ****load....Tom as well.

If we are able to get Ben Johnson I want Bridgewater because he is currently the backup in Detroit so one would assume he knows the offense. He can help mentor the rookie and even potentially start the first month or two and maybe have us around .500 until the rookie is ready to play. Obviously this is all a hypothetical but this would be my ideal scenario.

At least Cousins provides functional competence to the position and is a decent leader.

Unlike Herbie from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for a QB.

I'm sorry, but this is the perfect time to start a whole new direction for the team. They need to part ways with Belichick. They will have a top 10 pick and a ton of cap room. They need to build the team in the next guy's image, not Belichick's.

I hope Kraft at least considers people outside the organization for both the GM and head coach roll. They need a new line of thinking on how to build this team and not just a continuation of Belichick's vision just with different people. It ain't 2004 anymore. Belichick just never adapted to the current NFL with a boom of offensive talent and a salary cap that is far more manipulatable than in the past.

I don't disagree, but look at Kraft's history. he hired Parcells and that didn't work out. But it introduced him to Belichick. Then he hired Carroll, but that didn't work out. So he went back to who he knew and trusted. If Bill is out, I don't think he's going to look to who is hot in the league. I think he's going to look to who he knows, feels comfortable with and shows that he has a good grasp of where to take the team.

Hmm, it hasn't worked the last 4 seasons and Brady ain't walking through that door. In the last 3 years, 8 different teams made it to CCG and none of them had anything to do with Belichick. It is possible to be a contender w/o Belichick. Football players change teams all the time and adapt to new systems and schemes. It's actually a thing.
I agree that Belichick should go.

I also believe that there are many, many teams who would have been very happy competing for the playoffs three years in a row, with one playoff game.

Orthwein hired Parcells. Bob inherited him and Parcells did work out as they went to the playoffs twice and a SB.

I agree but that does not mean that individual will come from the BB organizational tree.

I honestly think it may be Johnathan making the decision and maybe he wants to push into the future and completely split from the dynasty era. Maybe it is just wishful thinking on my part but I feel like JK is going to be leading the team from an ownership aspect.

IDK, Kraft claims he really liked Belichick and wanted to hire him after Parcells, but went the Carroll route because he didn't think the timing was right to give the job to Belichick. So I think after Carroll it was a case of him second guessing his original decision.

Kraft is a smart guy. He knows football. He sees that the Belichick way isn't working anywhere and it is a much different NFL. I could see him wanting to move on from the Belichick tree after this year. And Jonathan probably thinks that way more so.

Zappehour I am all over your QB evaluations you have my attention. We know Drew Lock didn't have "it" in Denver but he just might be a late bloomer ready to shine for his next Team: still also in his QB prime. Hey what's your take on that Joshua Dobbs another late bloomer?? He looks very comfortable in that Vikings Offense as a dual threat. When Justin Jefferson comes back he should be be even better.

Right. I have no idea what they'll do and kind of hope they go outside the family so to speak, but I do wonder from that anecdote that if they move on from the BB tree, whether they have buyers remorse over not sticking with Mayo.

Me too on Tuna. I was shocked he came here under Orthwein. Instant credibility. Pete was an asshat at that time, with all his pumped and jacked BS. The whole CT thing was a mess, but looking back it was just a squeeze, to your point.

The Krafts literally made billions because of Bill and Tom. They should bend over backwards for those guys for the rest of their lives.
