Khalil Mack pipe dream

No way. Not sure what you put in your pipe but it would be a bad trip if you inhale those fumes.

Mack hasn't even talked to the Raiders since February. No way the Pats could ever sign him.

And if they did he being that inflexible would be toxic to the team chemistry. How selfish would he get everyone else to start being?
I don’t know if I would be as worried about him being toxic to the team environment as you may be simply over a contract related holdout, but I do wonder if Belichick would choose to pay an outsider top dollar (likely pushing 20m dollars a year) on the kind of deal that Mack would be looking for?

I mean, he did it to a lesser extent with Gilmore, but I think you can increase Mack’s asking price to another 50% of that total deal, and that’s before we’d even get into the cost of acquiring him, which would definitely be at least a first round draft pick, likely more.

The fact that they only signed Hightower is quite irritating.
Let’s just hope the one they paid is able to stay on the field and give them a positive return on their investment.

Chandler Jones was on synthetic weed, which complicated things a bit.

Jones was also not a good fit in our defense especially at market rate. Which is considerably more impactful than the synthetic weed thing.

I think anyone who actually wants more obvious pressure will have to be satisfied with the addition of Clayborn and keep their fingers crossed for Derek Rivers. Hoping for an unprecedented big trade like Mack where BB would buy high all of a sudden seems like something that will be an inevitable disappointment.

How so ?

Jones was never a fit in our defense unless out of nowhere BB would throw it all out of the window and go back to a 3-4 where Jones was allowed to be a pure pass rusher and not have any of those non-sensical responsibilities in coverage or setting the edge hard. There was no way CJ would have ever been worth market rate in a BB defense.

Collins just could not operate in the framework of the defense and was not reliable in his responsibilities to the point that his "freelancing" actually became a media talking point. And that was still about 1.5 years before the internal leaks from the Patriots became more commonplace. Hell it was Patricia that benched him in his final game in Foxboro within minutes and not BB.

Butler got a contract extension offered that he refused and got so obsessed with being in a contract year that he played for the most part below average last year.

If Collins didn't turn into a semi-headcase I am absolutely sure BB would have tried to extend him at a competitive price because he was a great chess piece at LB level to have. Jones would have never had a similar season he had in Arizona if he stayed here and Collins has done nothing of consequence since playing for the Browns.

Has he improved in terms of stopping the run and setting the edge, or is he pretty much just pinning his ears back and rushing the QB on every play? I haven’t really followed him much since his departure.

Edit: I see that you brought this up in your post directly above, which happened while I was posting.

From the limited stuff I have seen last year they are using him mostly at what he is good at (i.e. pass rushing). Which makes sense given his price tag but just requires a different kind of defense than BB has deployed in what seems like forever now.

People see the amount of sacks he got and do the mistake of just transferring that over to here. He simply never was a good fit here and even then was often very inconsistent. All of this has been said before.. and all of this will be said again.

Sending them T.Flowers, and next years first, and maybe a 3rd might get their attention. That’s the starting point. Mack is the much better version of flowers. Somewhat similar players actually.

Seems as though Gruden has made this more confusing than need be. Did he talk with Mack or did he not??

There is a distaste for too much drama in this type of player interactions, then add the drama of "Chuckie" who loves to hear himself talk it really f...cks things up.

Not happening lmaoooooo.

Is this where dreams are for sale? Could I please put in an order for Clowney? Thanks!

Id trade any player on the team not named Brady for Mack are you kidding me?

Not sure how you're not getting the part where the Raiders have to agree to the trade and Mack has to agree to a contract.

Im fully aware of that.
As the OP said Pipe dream but til he signs long term with the Raidaz keep home alive.

Mack is the better player.
I think it's a lot closer than most think tbh.

Mack is def a more well rounded player. Exceptional play strength. Best Long Arm in the game. Phenomenal player.

That said Jones is a better, more advanced pass rusher rn & he's a vg all around player in his own right.

It's just what he was asked to do here as opposed to Zona where their playing to his clear strengths.

On another note I'm fascinated w Oak. I couldn't imagine hiring a guy that's been away for so long & early reports aren't encouraging.
Forgot abt not talking to your best player. Last week he was talking abt "what to do w Mack" in terms of on the field.
Lol Imagine not knowing or tryna f-up one of the easiest situations in the game. Mack is the last guy I'm worried abt on that team.
Very interesting year for them.

Chandler jones was a solid run defender when he was here, it’s remarkable that he got a rep that he wasn’t. Probably best 43 DE vs the run we have had since we converted to the 43.
Jones was a better player on his role here than he is in Arizona because he was a complete player. Arizona is trying to turn him into Dwight freeney and have him ignore the run and require no discipline in his pass rush and the result is a pretty number in the sack column that novice fans use solely to judge DEs.
So to the average fan, or in terms of building up stats Jones looks like a better player now, but he really isn’t.
The reason he isn’t here is because a player who can put up those flashy stats gets overpaid all the time and we don’t overpay for flashy.
If every player made the same amount of money Jones would have been a cornerstone of this franchise.

I disagree. Mack is a weapon. His coach’s absolutely should be figuring out what to do with him, building schemes around him and getting everything they can out of talent and versatility.
Remember the way del rio used Mack led to having one of the worst pass rushes in the NFL without only 31 and 25 total team sacks the last 2 years.

Agreed about when he was here but you're 100% wrong on the bolded. You literally couldn't be more wrong.

Rn in terms of power/finesse, array of moves, hand usage etc & on & on there prob aren't 5 better rushers in the league. Also Jones has helped their run D in numerous ways. He certainly didn't/doesn't hurt them in that area at all.

Who are you disagreeing w Andy?

All I said was I'm not worried abt what to do w Mack. If you have any football acumen/IQ its clear as day they should build their D around him & put him in the best positions they can.
I'm much more worried abt the secondary, rushing attack, OL etc
