Key Players [Mac Jones/others] Isn't/Aren't Ready to Play

With even an ancient Aaron Rodgers healthy, he’s the worst quarterback in the AFC East. Again, I’ll repeat that: Even with a state of the art shovel, he’s the worst quarterback in the AFC East (among starters). That’s not including the Conference, that’s not including the League.

Outside of the AFC East, you have Mahomes, Burrow , Herbert, Lamar, Trevor Lawrence, Deshaun, Cousins, Tua, and Janeane Garoppolo. That’s just our Conference.

We sound like these crap teams we watched with laughter for decades trying to believe in their bad quarterback until finally moving on.
Mac Jones is at the bottom of any legitimate “power ranking list” getting outshined by Baker Mayfield. I just do not understand the aggressive defense of this dude.

Herbert has Literally done NOTHING in his career to warrant the praise he gets, Lawrence is a turnover machine, and costs his team more games then he wins them, Jimmy can't stay on the field, Lamar is a glorified running back, Burrow has looked like garbage the last two weeks after signing a monster contract, Deshaun is trash, Cousins is the definition of average, Tua has been pretty good, but has two all pro recievers that bail him out of a lot of bad situations.

We saw what Mahomes looks like with no receivers.
Here lets do a fun game.
Which one of these quarterbacks would you rather have?

Hey Ian, Moderators, what's the point of changing the thread title when I have 4 different players as NOT READY?

Uche, Strange, Rham, Mac?

This wasn't about only Mac.

Someone is shoveling a steaming pile of bullshi#
This idea that no one can evaluate Mac as a qb this far into his role as a starter because his team is subpar is not true. We have not really even seen flashes where you say this kid could be something special.

He does not have “it” and he has had his chances

The excuses for him do not hold water. Its not his fault but he is who he appears to be
He showed us something in 2021 (his rookie year), and he had some good moments. We never got to see him build off that after that second season turned into what it turned into.

Since there's not another option at this point of the season, all we can do is let things play out. If their record is terrible, they'll be in a position to potentially explore that position if they want to. If not, then I guess most of us would be happy with that. But we certainly won't have that answer barely two weeks into the season.

I would take Herbert.

Thanks

For all Mac doubters , a great article to illustrate what happened yesterday .. the offensive line is such a &#&$&$& that we can't objectively evaluate any QB. Tom Brady must be thanking his stars that he isn't playing for the pats any more. This is a QB graveyard the way the roster is constructed. Bill , that's on you.

I would take Herbert.

Thanks
maybe we can trade bill and mac to the chargers for him, im sure that would tickle your fancy a bit eh.

What do all those QB's you listed have that Mac doesn't? Legitimate playmakers catching the ball and in most cases a competent, cohesive (not to mention healthy) OL. They also benefited from not having Phat Matt calling in plays for a whole season.

You want to dump Mac. Sure. But, mark my words, he will be signed in an instant and if he's on a team that can draft and develop players on offense, he will find success in this league.
I mean, that’s just not a ‘threat’ that I can be too scared of coming to fruition.

Wait, is this an argument that Mac Jones is better than all of these guys? Because if so, the koolaid is getting strong AF.

The issue with the OL is that Mac folds and panics the second he sees any pressure coming, so defenses have no worry about throwing 5-6 guys at him. **** they don’t even need to blitz and he panics.

They know he’s not going to tear apart a defense that does that.

Mac rarely picks up the blitz. When they do get pressure he runs outside the pocket like a first time Madden player (except he has no speed). They also know he’s horribly inaccurate on deep throws so they don’t need to play back and worry about the HR ball.

it doesn’t matter if they’re playing a good team or a bad team, you’re always going to get a sluggish offense with Mac trying to dink and dunk down the field which CAN work if you also have a threat of a deep ball to keep the defense honest.

Sure, everyone would like an all-pro line or the best receiver in the league, but the Dolphins came into the season with the 20th best line rank (pff) and they showed it in week 1. Yet Tua’s insanely quick release made him only get sacked once this season despite facing 16 blitz in two games.

We all see it but for some reason people are still in denial and want to blame anything BUT Mac lol.

What’s more likely?

(A.) An 8 time Super Bowl champion arguable GOAT coach is making Mac Jones look bad?

So the throws on the run or stepped up into the pocket are "panicking".

I dont know I Mac is the guy, but the last two weeks, I feel better about Mac than I did last year. It's clear that the windows he is throwing into are tiny and the amount of time is short. He has shown some really nice ability throwing off platform, especially that td to Henry.

He stands in there and takes the hit and of course throwing deep to Bourne will be hit or miss, he isn't fast.

The Parker int was his worst decision, and it really wasn't horrible. I've seen Brady make much worse throws.

People expect perfection. Ridiculous

What's more likely?

A. The buck stops with QB Mac Jones?

B. The buck stops with GM/HC Bill Belichick?

The point isn’t without merit yet at the same time getting rid of Belichick because you think he’s making Mac Jones underperform would be the worst sports take in the history of athletics. Mac was drafted by Belichick, so yes, if he sucks, that’s a bad call by Bill.

But it doesn’t make Mac good.

If he had a great OL, great receivers and a great defense would we learn all that much about who he is? I mean, it's the NFL, every given year there are what, 2, 3 QBs at most who get a situation that good? It can't take that to get a gauge because I think most of the backups in the league would get a passing grade under those circumstances.
Purdy is a great example playing behind very good OL in SF and has great WR…..and D….. put Purdy behind this office of line he would be picking turf out of his teeth

Different team, different game, different day....

If Zach Wilson lights up our D...I'll call it quits for this season. We can put Gonzalez on G.Wilson and just pressure Z.Wilson on obvious passing downs.

Breece/Cook are gonna be the focus of our defense this Sunday. Mostert wasn't the focus last night...we were playing Hill/Waddle short handed. I see Tavai and Bentley going downhill vs. playing laterally like last night.

And yes...Mac shouldn't be throwing against the secondary and AT LEAST we will probably have our 3 interior guys together again next week including Brown at LT (he won't be in the concussion protocol for another week, IMO)...so that will slow down that Jets D-line somewhat.

I think this will be another game decided by special teams like last year's Marcus Jones win at the end of regulation...or like the Jets' walk off win on MNF last week....

****ing Jets man....
So far this defense hasn’t shown that they can pressure anybody… Especially a team with a good offensive line!

The 49ers offense line consists of basically 3 no-names besides Williams and banks. They just execute really well and are extremely well coached

My point is that BB is in charge of "buying the groceries" and also for "cooking the meal". If the team has a lack of talent (most glaringly on offense), how is that Mac's fault. He's not Tom Brady who can elevate mediocre and poor players. Very few QB's are.

That's where we're at now. Mac just needs a competent OC head coach/GM and he'll shine, you'll see!
Well, yeah. A GM that can bring in the likes of Hill and Waddle will make Mac a league darling just like it did for Tua.
