Key Players [Mac Jones/others] Isn't/Aren't Ready to Play

They somehow rank 27th in air yards per completion and 20th in YAC per completion. There's often a tradeoff there between throwing the ball further upfield and getting less YAC and vice versa. They throw short and don't get YAC. The receivers don't get separation and he's not hitting guys in stride consistently enough.
Saw those passes Tua hit to Berrios and Waddle?? Mac can't make those throws sadly the difference between winning and losing.

what more could he have done yesterday?
The sack he took on the first drive with a free rusher just get rid of the ball instead of tucking. Rhomndre was in the flat chuck it at his feet as soon as you see a man running straight at you.

Get rid of the ball on the Van Winkle hit. The guy wasn't coming from his blind side, he beat Anderson at RT and Mac seemed to have no clue it happened.

Make a better throw on the INT to Xavien Howard. Just a bad ball and a bad effort by Parker there. We got the ball at midfield after the blocked kick and came away with nothing there.

The Chubb sack he took under 2 minutes just can't happen. He needs to step up in the pocket and avoid that one. Mac definitely took some sacks last night he couldn't do much about but that one he just can't take there.

He made some good plays. That first TD drive he was evading pressure and throwing on the run and even scrambled for a long first down. By no means is Mac terrible or even bad I just don't think he is good enough to win games in this league with what Bill has around him. You flip Mac and Tua and I think both teams have the same record and both guys would have the same general stat lines. At this point we need a guy at QB who can win us a game with everything on the line and Mac just isn't that guy.

the throw to parker was where the play called for it to be.....it was a single coverage read, it was a timing throw.......parker owns that one, he's supposed to be the 50/50 ball wizard

the van winkle hit - was that the one where van winkle was on him immediately, within tenths of getting the ball in his hands?

Welcome to the dark side of the Patriots saw those deficiencies last year yeah Mac is the elephant in the room.
I have been saying this for a very long time. I am always optimistic that young QBs can develop. They can. It happens. But for most, time runs out.

We're not waiting around for Mac Geno Smith Jones.

He needed to put that ball in better spot but I agree Parker did a hell of a job botching that. At worst it should've been incomplete.

The Van Ginkle sack after the Gonzalez interception there was nothing Mac was going to be able to do there. Just a mess. The one I am talking about he had a decent amount of time but Van Ginkle beat Anderson again on Mac's right side and Mac didn't feel the pressure and it was nearly a FF with his arm going back.

To me at this point I think we are at best waiting for a Kirk Cousins type guy to develop. Right now we aren't even really getting Andy Dalton.

When I saw the thread title I thought yeah, that’s right:

Trent Brown isn’t ready to play.
Nor is Sidy Sow.
Reiff.
Thornton.
Trey Flowers.
Jack Jones.
Jon Jones.
Strange is just cleared to play after missing all preseason injured, still knocking rust off.
Onwenu ditto.
Parker just back after missing last game with an injury.

Somehow I didn’t see it was all about Corky.

I don't fully blame Mac for being 0-2 or the offense's struggles but he definitely isn't doing what needs to be done to win games. I think this is just where Mac's physical limitations will get us. He doesn't have the skills to elevate those around him and those around him aren't that great.
Sad thing is I think he has the physical skills and the speed to move outside the pocket.

He does not have the mental game is more my concern.

I do think he excels at reading coverages though. I'll give him that.

I was hoping he would be much further along in the mental game so that he could maximize the things he does well.

Just so you youngins know, Sox fans talked about the Ruth trade for a half century.

And more top players than Brady have been shown the door.
There's a difference, tho? Did we get rid of Brady before his prime, like Ruth?

ALL the top players were at the end on that 2019 team except for Thuney. He's the only one we should have held onto. All the others were over: Gronk, Edleman, Flowers, Gilmore, etc.

Brady with a rebuilding roster would've been miserable.

Jabril Peppers: "We didn’t come out on our game, down big again."

They need to start kicking butt. It's a matter of physicality for some of the players. They aren't ready to play at kickoff.

When Zach Wilson lights us up this defense has a real problem.
I don’t see how we can move the ball against the Jets and the way Mostert ram over us Breece has to be licking his lips.

I don’t want Mac throwing anywhere near the Jets secondary.

I'll tell you what, there's only one group of people more annoying than the ones who want to pin every offensive failing on Mac Jones and it's those that have to hammer the "Mac's not at fault", "Mac's not why you lost" stuff over and over and over starting from the first five seconds after every loss. It's like Mac is always the same, he always does the very best he can on every play and everything that goes wrong is a failure around him. He was okay yesterday, he wasn't the reason they lost, but isn't he allowed to eventually be the reason they win one of those games? Why is diverting blame away from him so much of the focus? He was fine, he's not the only or the biggest problem they have on offense, I just wonder why we are never allowed to expect more than that. Yeah, he's better than Zach Wilson, he won't throw away the game. Then what?
The problem with Mac is we have no solid answer on whether he can be a franchise QB and we still won’t learn it this season. If the line sucks and his receivers are subpar, we don’t have an answer. His receivers, outside of Douglas, can’t make something out of nothing and take a little pressure off.

I think the general feeling is that he is a middle of the road QB which isn’t good enough. He has failed, with many chances, to make one signature drive to win a game. His arm is also concerning.

Mac won't he'll just take the sack another punt fest. This Time Marcus Jones won't be there for possible game winning run back.

You can win with a middle of the road QB. But you have to have the pieces around him.

But but the HC/GM don't believe in those Elite pieces because he thinks you can just plug anyone in chess vs checkers.

You can win some games with a middle of the road QB. You’re gonna have a very hard time contending with one. You need to be loaded with talent otherwise.

If he had a great OL, great receivers and a great defense would we learn all that much about who he is? I mean, it's the NFL, every given year there are what, 2, 3 QBs at most who get a situation that good? It can't take that to get a gauge because I think most of the backups in the league would get a passing grade under those circumstances.
