Keep expectations for Maye in 2025 realistic

Yup.
As I mentioned no QB who played 17 games last year had less than 3500 yds. 3000 is more unrealistic than 4000 imho
How many had 4000 last year?

Maye is most likely to have 4000 years if we have a poor season and are often playing from behind.

Mg, again I said my 3995 was optimistic. I do however strongly believe 3000 is unrealistically low.

If you look at the 10 games he completed last year, he averaged 223 yds/game.

Extrapolate over 17 games, that is 3792 yards. With terrible coaching, terrible Oline play, and very poor weapons and run game.

I think we can all agree that we are better in all those areas this year.

Thus, I believe 3000 is incredibly unlikely, while something around 4000 is much more probable.

Forget about a specific yardage number. Here are a few of the things I'm hoping for this season from Maye. I want him to be ranked in the top 15 of QB's in most ranking categories. That would be a fair target.

Remember he IS going into a new offensive system with a brand new OL that will have little experience playing together. Continuity is an underrated factor in successful OL play. So while we all have grandiose expectations for Maye he DOES have a number of obstacles he has to overcome.

There are a few other things I want to see improve. I want to see his ball handling and fakes be more compelling. Ballhandling used to be an art form, with the great ones almost like magicians making the ball appear and disappear at will. In today's game, it has become almost like an afterthought with QB and RB never really meshing because the QB wants to get into his reads more than he wants to carry out a good fake. Of course a lot of this is on Josh. He needs to make good ball handling a priority and DEMAND his QB's to fully carry out all fakes, and stop these merely cursory pretend fakes we see all the time, just going through the motions. (kind of a pet peeve of mine)

Finally, since another pet peeve of mind is the critical nature of a team's TO ratio to the wins and losses; I want to see Maye's pick to TD ratio be at LEAST 2:1.

That's it... for now.
The yards and td's don't matter much to me. Is he making the right reads, or is he throwing into crowds while missing wide open receivers? Are we finishing in the red zone? Is he moving the chains? Is he spreading the ball around? Is he calling the right protections? Does he make good decisions when running with it?

I expect a Big Third Year jump from Pop Douglas 850 or more yards: about 1000 from Diggs. That's close to 2000 yds not counting the H Henry and A Hooper: also I expect around 650 from Boutte and about 400yds from Kyle Williams.
Yes! Pop will see alot if targets he also looks bigger and stronger.. that's some big production if we can get all those from those guys. That's some good production all spread around.

I expect this will be a run heavy team and Josh will have the reins on Maye. Campbell will absolutely shine in that scheme.

Wouldn't be that surprised if Maye only has around 3k passing yards
That's interesting. Becuase I know during an interview during camp Josh was saying how smart Drake was and how he wants him to use his football instincts when he feels he needs to. With the being said.. expect Drake to make alot of unscripted plays that defenses can prepare for.. Drake will have some 300, even 400 yards passing in some games. We have a better collection on offense and at the QB position than 2021.. I'm expecting 4,000 to 4,500

Pop does not always run the right routes. Diggs does. Boutte does. Hollins does. Chism does. Williams is new so he gets a pass. Douglas in Y3 has to start running the right routes - that is why Douglas talks about Chism, because Douglas sees that Chism gets it. Douglas is athletic, but Vrabel will not tolerate someone that is not a scheme fit.

Boutte and Pops will get many targets early in the year simply because they have played with May before in real games

Pop has been the best wr all camp. So he's running something right. Chism is more of amendola type than anything. Pop his skill set and abilities are closer to wes Welker IMO. The guys there are not a scheme fit are either on practice squads on other teams, released, or working at your nearest home depot right now. I get your over point though.

Chism was the best WR in camp. Being the best means the player is playing a lot in preseason, which is not necessarily a good thing.

From all the reports Pop was the best in camp (practices). Chism was certainly the best in preseason games.

Chism wasn't. He had his struggles. He came on late and was a phenomenal player in the preseason games. Pop is the starting slot wr for this team. Chism will be mixed in like everyone else at some point.

Efton Chism =Hunter Renfrow??

Typically 10-11 QBs throw for 4000 yards. I don’t think it’s a stretch to expect Maye to be in the top 1/3 of QBs.

Mac Jones almost passed for 4,000 yards (3,801), 22 TD's and 13 INT's his rookie year throwing to Bourne, Meyers, Agholor Henry and Smith. He also would've won rookie of the year had he not collapsed starting with Indy.

Maye has Diggs, Douglas, Williams, Boutte, Henry, and Hooper. If Maye can't match Jones' production in 2021, that either means the ground game is that devastating or we will be having a different conversation.

Maye is too talented to post that paltry number.
Maye is very talented but this is more about scheme and that I really think the reins are on Drake until the turnovers are under control.

You gotta throw the ball to win. The reigns won’t be any tighter than last year where again, based on his 10 complete games, projected to over 3700 yards with a horrific supporting cast and coaching. 4000 is optimistic, but way more probable than 3000.

If he plays all 17 games and has 3,000 yards we have some serious problems. Only one QB who’s played 17 games has had under 3,500 yards, that was Gardner Minshew two years ago.

If Maye can’t hit that ceiling we’re drafting a QB again.

Exactly: I'm not setting the Bar low for the Fourth overall selection with loads of talent.

Or the run for Arch in 2026.

Let's be honest we all knew moon ball Mac sucked; and it was a matter of time before the D figured him out. I knew from watching him even after that year: Mac Jones can't throw consistently outside the numbers. Crowd the middle - Blitz and it's all over for Mac: dude was such a coward.
