One thing is obvious by now...the Falcons DO NOT have a 1st rounder on the table...otherwise, Fontenot would have dropped Julio at the airport this AM.

We're already short two picks in next year's draft; I'd prefer not to be short three of them, so I would offer a 2023 3rd-rounder that converts to a 2nd based on realistic incentives, but only if Atlanta eats $5M...

I don’t think we know the Patriots draft pick situation for 2022 yet. At this point we know they have at least 6 picks and possibly as many as 8.

They have their own 1-4, and traded the 5 for Trent Brown and the Raiders 7th, so that’s at least 5 picks total. They also traded Ryan Izzo for the Texans 7th round pick, an unconditional trade. That’s 6 picks.

The two unknowns were conditional trades:
- Pats traded their 6th rounder conditionally to the Dolphins for Isaiah Ford
- Pats traded their own 7th rounder conditionally to the Lions for Michael Jackson.

These trades usually involve playing time incentives or active roster incentives, Jackson was only on the active roster for 1 game and he played in it. Ford was on the team for 4 games and was not active in any of them. It’s possible one or both of those guys didn’t meet the trade conditions and that the Patriots might have retained one or both of those picks. I don think any Patriots beat writer has confirmed yet.

It seems like this entire Julio Jones situation is screwed up because:

• Teams aren't aware if they're trading for Julio Jones or if they're trading for a one-year rental of Julio Jones
• (Which makes the draft compensation very complicated), and
• Julio Jones doesn't appear to be willing to take a team friendly deal extension (example, a 2 yr/ $23M) to play for a contender and would rather try for a prove-it season so he can cash in one more time.

So, in other words, Jones has all the leverage over Atlanta. No one will trade a high pick for a potential one-year rental, and he doesn't appear willing to get this done...he clearly wants big money, and Atlanta won't pay him, so they're threatening to trade him, but he really doesn't care if he's traded.

It's a good point though, because I'm sure he'd start asking about a new deal sooner rather than later.... Have to absorb the initial hit plus whatever extension is decided on...

Ford was widely reported as a straight-up 7th despite the official "conditional 6th." That would mean nothing was sent to Detroit for Jackson.

I'm pretty sure that the Ford pick had to be conditional on it not going to the Lions for Jackson. Maybe the Jackson conditions were low enough that he could technically have reached them in the remainder of the season, or maybe conditional picks are off limits for the entire season regardless of whether it's possible to still reach the conditions. It would be similar to how Jamie Collins was traded for a conditional 2018 4th. They couldn't trade him for the 2017 comp 3rd because comp picks hadn't been awarded yet, so they announced it as a placeholder conditional pick with the actual terms of the trade immediately leaked to the media despite what the transaction wire said.
