I think York came across not the best. His like about not firing the owner, though true was not the best thing to say in my opinion. You mean the press conference where he said they will be patient, and can't expect it to happen overnight?
He chose Baalke over Harbaugh. Turns out he was wrong, but Baalke really did load that team with talent. Harbaugh's ego may have been the tipping point, so its hard to kill him for that.
You can't keep a gimmick guy like Kelly when you fire the GM who hired him.
The truth of whats going on in that organization could go either way, we don't know, but these decisions by themselves don't really prove anything.
I think this may cost him opportunities. Why **** around with a guy who either doesn't seem serious or lacks confidence that he can turn around a team. 95% of teams hiring coaches need to be turned around and 95% of great coaches took over crappy teams and turned them around. Fear, or doubt or wanting safety, whatever you want to call it, isn't a good thing in a leader.
I live here now and it is pretty nice. Mid 50's and sunny today.Well yeah. The bay area is gorgeous. One of my favorite places in the entire country. Their football team is the antithesis of that area.
I am glad he is focusing on the Pats and the SB.
But I will post this now, if stays with us this year only to bolt for the Colts or Packers in the next one to two seasons I will lose tons of respect for him.
The 49ers weren't a great situation, but they had tons of cap space, the #2 pick, and rich tradition. He could have built from scratch.
If he is waiting for a job opening with a guy like Luck or Rodgers, he is looking for the easy way.
Could have made a very similar argument when Kraft fired Carroll and offered the job to BB.
The organization runs off Parcells to let Bobby Grier run the show, then you hire Pete Carroll, who has a winning record and took you to the playoffs in 2 of 3 year and just went .500. What coach in his right mind would go to that dysfunctional organization?
I just hope it isn't Irsay as that guy is a jerk.I think it all comes down to ownership and the stability of the franchise.
There are maybe 10-15 franchises run by stable owners.
The other 2/3s are missing one of those characteristics.
I'm also assuming he won't go somewhere in the AFC East.
Seems like there aren't many teams to choose from right now.
To your point, JMD seems to be thumbing his nose to the risker landing spots and shutting himself out of opportunities that guys like Kyle Shanahan or others are OK with.
My gut tells me JMD wants to be a HC but ONLY what BB got in NE and Carroll in SEA. An owner who will be supportive, patient and let him pick the players and his front-office.
From what I have read:
Stability, drama free environment, focus on producing a winner and not selling PSLs. They are letting Bob Quinn run the show and do not interfere.
I am not talking about their on field success but only about the management environment.
You're a lucky guy. I want to retire over there when it's all said and done. That depends strongly on the tax situation, though.I live here now and it is pretty nice. Mid 50's and sunny today.
Part of me wanted Josh in SF so I could watch him build the team back up.
York had to chose between his GM and his coach. He chose wrong, but did it by choosing a GM who was doing a very good job and letting a coach go who was abominably arrogant. On their track record ? York has pushed out Harbaugh, is known for interfering continuously and fired now 3 or 4 coaches in a matter of years. The Fords are the opposite of that.
If you have time listen to the Quick Slants podcast from the first week of January. Curran goes pretty deep on the SF situation.
Can't understand the Cable interest at all--would be another step back for a storied franchise that can't afford another step back after the last few years.
I see them hiring Shanahan as soon as the Falcons' season ends.
I just hope it isn't Irsay as that guy is a jerk.

Baalke made 2 bad HC decisions.
What would you want York to do? Keep letting Baalke screw up? Fire Baalke and keep Chip Kelly?
York has clearly stated that this is not an overnight fix, and he must be patient.
Did you really see anything that happened on the football field that would tell you Tomsula or Kelly deserved to keep their jobs? Are you saying he would be better to just be a nice guy and let the team keep floundering?
last time I checked there isn't an opening in indy.I just hope it isn't Irsay as that guy is a jerk.
We are talking about the Lions right? The team who's best players retire in their prime. The team that has won 1 playoff game in 50 years? From what I have read:
