I don't know if its the right move or not, but, if true, it is a curious decision to pass up the chance to be a HC and may mean he will stay in NE for a long time.

I think that is a legit question. We don't know how often hes been turned down and how much hes excused himself from opportunities.

We also don't know if his "non-negotiables" are so unrealistic he is either intentionally or unintentionally disqualifying himself from opportunities.

In this case it seems like SF wanted him and he excused himself because he has misgivings over the opportunity.

How young are his kids? If preschool or elementary age then now is a better time to move them than later. Though it's never a good time if it's expected to be for only a few years.

Yep. There are complications at every age. To your point though when they are infants is the least amount.

The Fords have been a damn good owner for a long time. York has been through 3 or 4 coaches in the same number of years. Could he change and give full control to the GM and coach ? Sure.. but don't forget that he is a rich person in Silicon Valley and all his other rich friends and peers are mostly startup people. The mentality and attitude of many of them is just "iterate and fail" which is exactly the wrong thing to do as an NFL owner.

What makes the Fords good owners? Up until 3 years ago they were a disaster. WC Ford's widow taking over has a little to do with their recent successes.

Financially that team is not in the best of shape.Then again, neither is Detroit.

I think this may cost him opportunities. Why **** around with a guy who either doesn't seem serious or lacks confidence that he can turn around a team. 95% of teams hiring coaches need to be turned around and 95% of great coaches took over crappy teams and turned them around. Fear, or doubt or wanting safety, whatever you want to call it, isn't a good thing in a leader.

For me just based on Jed York's year end press conference and his curios decision to stick with Baalke and how he handled Chip.
I think SF is a good opportunity for the right coach.

I would never chose Detroit over SF. If you want to raise young kids I would think the Bay Area would have a lot more to offer (I have never lived in Detroit, but did just relocate from the Philadelphia area to San Francisco- so bias disclosed).
York has been a clown, but maybe he can learn. I mean SF does have a young roster, tons of cap space, and a lot of draft capital.

The team is bad now, I am just saying there are some pieces to work with.

Yep, I was just pushing back a bit at the 'jock-speak' answer Josh gave. Of course he couldn't say York is a nut case so I don't want anything to do with him. And of course in one year's time if there's a more suitable position on offer, his kids will learn how to put their **** into a suitcase and go with Mommy and Daddy. In a decade or so those kids will tell their therapists about the trauma it caused them, whilst collecting from the trust fund that Mommy and Daddy set up for them.

Yep, that all falls into the category of the unknowable. Is it really about his family? Or is it about this situation? Or is it about the timing ( look around, all the OC/DC level coaching talent has already taken new jobs )? Or is it about him wanting to stay an well-paid OC? Or does he want to stay in position for an eventual shot at the Patriots HC gig?

Stability, drama free environment, focus on producing a winner and not selling PSLs. They are letting Bob Quinn run the show and do not interfere.

I am not talking about their on field success but only about the management environment.

You mean the press conference where he said they will be patient, and can't expect it to happen overnight?

He chose Baalke over Harbaugh. Turns out he was wrong, but Baalke really did load that team with talent. Harbaugh's ego may have been the tipping point, so its hard to kill him for that.
You can't keep a gimmick guy like Kelly when you fire the GM who hired him.

The truth of whats going on in that organization could go either way, we don't know, but these decisions by themselves don't really prove anything.
