Patriots Player Departure Josh Gordon Stepping Away?

This was always the biggest danger in acquiring him. That he'd hold it together just long enough to become a regular cog in the offense, and then leave after it's too late to acquire a replacement. I wish him luck as a man. Terrible timing for the team.
We'll be better off without him. He has great hands but was mostly effective on slants, 2 or 3 catches a game. I wanted Patterson and Dorsett to have more chances.

The human in me wishes him well and hopes he figures out how to live the rest of his life in peace.

The Pats fan in me wants him to suck it up and play because my fandom is now impacted.

d%#*!@t.

Normally I would say the defense needs to step up but you know that’s not happening

People thought this receiver core was fine lol..

All the empathy of a stone wall.
There's a life in the balance but hey, "Screw him for what he did to my football team"
smdh

No, screw him for he did to himself. This season is toast before this and Gordon was only slightly effective.

Gordon puts on his annual violin concerto and all the enablers come a running. Poor Josh.

Blow it up after the season. I’m serious, minimal talent and old, time to start fresh no GM is fixing this team in one offseason.

That too bad...the guy abviously has serious problems....I have dealt with family that are substance abusers and it is no joke...Im not feeling sorry for anyone but it is a very serious issue and often difficult to fix.

I dont think this is a surprise to anyone, it sucks but didnt we all think it was a matter of time..

I do think the Pats might play better on offense now, maybe, I do think TB tended to focus on Josh a bit in some games...lets see how it works out.......

Just finished reading page three of this thread. Before I read anymore, I'd like to say to all the "Patriots fans" who are mocking Gordon for his struggles with addiction and/or mocking the Patriots for having given him a chance ....

GFY
I mock in gest at the end of the day if it's just weed memo to the NFL it's not 1950 anymore.
On the real my dad is on a bunch of opiates for back and knee issues and he is not the same guy and is depressed tried to get off of them and was in a terrible withdrawl the Dr put him back on it. He tried to get the Dr to give him some other option Marijuana or drops and he wouldn't.
Ive heard drs get paid heavily to prescribe that poison big Pharm much rather he smoke weed.
PA is talking about legalizing so I pray they do for him.
I used to be a pot head as a teen who wasn't and I would smoke recreationally no different than having a jack and coke occasionally if the legalization goes thru.
My wife won't let me smoke illegally or I would occasionally.
I need to add she used to he a drug counselor and life manager for a homeless shelter for women.

Sad that the league hasn't helped this guy out. Where are the indefinite suspensions for the wife beaters?

They have. What do you want?

Its up to Gordon to take personal responsibility.

It really is ridiculous when you list it like that. So many failed projects, goodness.
This tells me Bill admits he can’t draft receivers.

Best of luck to Josh Gordon.

With that said, season is pretty much over. This year's team simply isn't as good as previous years. Whether it be execution, coaching or talent level, we are just an above average team. Team will need a major reload or possibly consider a full-on rebuild this off-season because except Gilmore, Flowers and Mason, our best players are all on the wrong side of 30. Add WR to our list of needs this off-season because I think Gordon may have played his last snap in the NFL.

I’m not mocking him but I have no sympathy for him or any addicts. No one forced you to start doing drugs and making your life difficult.

Addiction is a lifelong disease.

Success does not make the disease go away.
Being on a better team does make the disease go away.
Having willpower does not make the disease go away permanently.

Changing environment, taking the right advice from medical professionals, putting yourself around the right people, cutting off access to substances (the hardest to do, especially with how easy they are to get, including alcohol), constantly making plans to avoid be around any type of addictive substance (again, alcohol is everywhere), all of these things help to treat the disease, but even in the very best situation most addicts relapse over and over again.

In terms of “demons” or some idea that his upbringing led to this, science is leaning much towards it being a genetic condition and way more common than you think. I’m sure that’s the reason why about 90% of the “bad character” college players aren’t drafted. Teams know guys in college are immature idiots...it’s the lifelong drug and alcohol dependency that you can’t fix.

In the last 8 games, prior to Pitt, he had 35 receptions on 60 targets for 619 yards.
That’s pretty effective.

Obviously he started his mental vacation a week before announcing it.
