There you go - asked about TB12

Good Lord. How does one make a phone call to Bill Belichick which includes the phrase "...so you send us Tom Brady..."? Just... my brain would explode in embarrassment trying to get those words out of my mouth.

John Lynch has guts, you have to give him that much.

The fact that Hoyer is out there has been pointed out about a billion times already. The reports that Hoyer was going to be part of the deal originally are here in the thread, and that demonstrates a likely avenue to look for your backup QB.

Hoyer... really? He sucks, we can't win with him.

Wonder if it was money that made Jimmy G decide he wasn't going to play ball or playing time.

If anyone is feeling down about the trade, I recommend you watch Simian throwing into the stands in garbage time. Cheered me right up.

Sorry if this was already posted and I think he since deleted it but...

I feel like BB drafts these guys (O'Connell, Mallett, Garapollo, Brissett) early for two reasons, a future trade chip, off chance they're the successor to Brady. I feel like this time more-so than any of the others Bill saw JG as the successor and if thats the case then why dump him for less than "a king's ransom? Maybe the offers really weren't there this off season but there seemed to be way too much smoke to be no fire. I feel like all the leverage was ours at draft time but now a team has to know if we're talking trade midseason that we know Jimmy is gone come March. In the end of the day we could've done far worse than Jimmy in round 2 (Jordan Richards, Tavon Wilson, Chad Jackson, Terrence Wheatley...) but it's still hard not to feel like we misplayed our hand.

It's like the Rondo trade for the Celtics. They held the player too long. You have to sell when your asset is high. That's how any market works.

Hope bill goes trick or treating tomorrow and lands us a big candy bar lol.

In case you haven't been watching this team, it wasn't going to be winning with JAG, either.

yeah of course, the NFL is mediocre this season so far. It wouldn't have been completely crazy to get lucky in the playoffs with JG, if Brady went down.

I just find it strange they waited this long and traded both of there back ups.

No I am just asking questions, I didn't feel like rummaging through 26 pages. I guess I don't really understand.. we traded both are back up QB's now. Are we going to flip the pick for someone else? Because if not why didn't we trade him in the off season.

I am completely lost.

Brian Hoyer was originally part of the trade but the Pats asked him to be removed from the deal so that they don't lose a 3rd round comp pick (I don't know how that works). Brian Hoyer has been instead released from the 49ers and it is believed he will sign with the Patriots as a FA and SF will end up picking up some of his salary if I understand that correctly.

In short Brian Hoyer will most likely be the back up QB.

Think Hogan going down contributed to the trade?
Possibly. The team has some issues. When you have issues and you have Tom Brady and you have an asset that is not playing )and it probably wouldnt matter if he did) you make a move to improve the team.

Why is this so hard for posters to understand? They had to make a move now.

Maybe this will help to put the NFL trade compensation process in its proper light for some, although I doubt it. Too many here were actually thinking that Malcolm Butler was going to net us the #11th pick, or that JG was going to fetch multiple high round selections.

First round trades are almost always reserved for upper echelon, elite talent. Like some here asked all offseason long, how many first round trades even go down in the NFL, let alone for a backup QB?

Well said Sup. But your "doubt" isn't well founded because I had heard Mike Ditka called up the Bears and convinced them to trade every single 2018 pick for JG. It's appalling that BB would pass that up....

Wonder if it was money that made Jimmy G decide he wasn't going to play ball or playing time.
Yes. Both. Pats wouldn't spend money without getting playing time in return.
