The Jets channeled their inner Jets by pulling off a bone-headed move yet again. The team with the single worst roster in the NFL traded away one of their three most talented players because the man in charge backed himself into a corner. It was Mismanagement 101 on One Jets Drive for a star-crossed franchise still wandering through the wilderness in the hopes of locating a clue.
The truth is the Jets bungled this situation so badly that some of the green-and-white clad zombies actually felt that this was a good return for a 26-year-old Pro Bowl defensive lineman.
“You don’t let the most talented guys leave… especially at that position,” a team insider said of Richardson. “You try and find a way to make it work.”
These Jets evidently are allergic to good football players.
“We should have sent them Hack,” a second source said.
Make no mistake: Maccagnan was not a popular figure inside the organization after this trade. People were ticked off.
The Jets claim that they want to foster a culture made up of players, who have a love and passion for the game and the team. Richardson embodied that.
“He loves to play the game,” one team source said. “He loves football. He goes hard in practice, plays hard when he’s in there.”
Yeah. The Jets don’t need more of that.
On the bright side, Woody and Chris Johnson will save $5.9 million off this trade. Richardson was set to make $8.1 million this year. Kearse will make $2.2 million. Bloated wallets aside, the Richardson trade was a microcosm of this regime’s poor planning. Maccagnan boxed himself into a corner by committing big money to Muhammad Wilkerson, who wound up embarrassing the franchise and himself on and off the field last season. The GM foolishly doled out a lucrative contract extension to Wilkerson last year rather than simply let the defensive end play on the franchise tag in 2016. Franchising Wilkerson would have created maximum flexibility — and options.
Word.Getting draft capital is a lot easier than actually picking good players with it.
IMHO most fans over-rate the draft. Sure it's one way to build a team, but so is free agency, un-drafted players, trading for under-valued players from other teams, and re-signing your own good players early so you don't pay a premium for them later. The Jete suck at all of the above. And that's why you need as much draft capital as possible.
At least he's good at being a clown, and does have access to opinions inside the organization. I don't have a hard time thinking that one big chunk of the organization is pissed off at losing Richardson. It was clear he was the leader of one faction of the locker room last year (Marshall was the leader of the other).Mehta is a clown, along with all of the other NY media, his opinion is worth only the same as internet message board blowhards.

Draft capital is only as valuable as the management that holds it.
Mcaago is no better off than a nympho in a porn shop with 1000 bucks in his sticky little hands.
They are tanking for the first pick only to build another perennial 8-8 team.
That's what talent gets you. 8-8. More than that requires leadership, culture, schematic chemistry and experience which takes time to develop. The Jete have non of those elements at the moment.
There isn't a sales pitch that will build a winning mentality on a team that has basically tossed a year of these player's careers in the garbage.
The resident troll and his 2018 pipe dream is just ludicrous.
You should. That and embarrassment.I smell fear.
That, and..You should. That and embarrassment.I smell fear.
No, you smell swamp gas. Go play in traffic.I smell fear.
Plus people tend to underestimate Sheldon's athleticism.
Maybe when he wasn't rocking that 365 lb frame, but that's what he's got now.
Guys, we HAVE to think of something to do for the big 5-0.
Ok, here it is!Wanna savor it.
Oh, oh... I know... lose the division to the revamped Jets? But let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet. The 2018 offseason will be a blast itself. Wanna savor it.
