Jets Are Apparently Interested in Caley

I’m still trying to figure out why McDaniels didn’t hire Caley as his OC (no, the Patriots couldn’t have blocked that) but instead picked Lombardi. That’s one year as assistant QB coach and two as WR coach vs six as TE coach (and somebody FB).

Good riddance. What is the evidence that he is an offensive genius? Is it the tremendous production of the TEs this year? The non coordinator assistant coaches are a dime a dozen

If they bring in an OC, you’d want the OC to have assistants with him that he will be able to trust in implementing the changes he believes that the offense needs. BB needs to focus on getting he right guy at OC and prioritizing (1) whether Mac Jones should be the starting QB for the next 2 seasons and (2) rebuilding of the OL.

They have 2 Guards and a Center, a TE, a RB, and one WR that are I think likely to be thought of as keepers and frankly none of them should be untouchable except maybe Andrews (who I think is not tradeable due to health and injury issues). The rest of the players and coaches not so much. I’m not saying get rid of all of them but the new OC should be able to decide whom he wants without feeling obligated to any of them. Even with the guys I refer to here, if they could be traded for someone who can make a bigger impact I’d do it. Would you trade Onwenu for a shot at one of the better LT prospect, I sure would.

Since 2000 the Jets have been through

Mike Lefluer
Dorall Loggaines
Jeremy Bates
John Mouton
Chan Gailey
Marty Morninweg
Tony Sparano
Brian Schottenhiemer
Mike Heimendinger
Paul Hackett
Dan Henning

What makes anyone believe that the Jets are going to get it right?
It’s a gamblers paradise. The “next” coach could be the one to turn it around! Pull the lever!

The best prospects in the draft are still 50/50 to become solid long term players. I wouldn't give up an OG with all pro years ahead of him for a 50/50 chance at an OT. Maybe the best QB in the draft, but that's about it.

How is it that teams STILL want to poach Patriots coaching talent, even in a year when that coach was part of an offense that stunk and his position (TE) regressed? How bad does a unit need to be before teams DON'T want our coaches?

Not really too shocking I guess. For some reason Bill didn't want to give him a try as the playcaller in 2022 and promote him to OC in 2023 if it went well. It's hard to say if he'll get hired though since he's never called plays at all as far as I'm aware...
He's been here for a while now... 2022 was his 8th season in New England... Compare that to McDaniels who was here for 5 years before getting tabbed as the OC/QB coach... all 8 years have been on the offensive side as well... unlike McDaniels who started as a personnel assistant before jumping into coaching the safeties...

I wonder if he will be one of, if not the first person, interviewed for the OC role in the coming week...

Yeah.... but who will ultimately be the QB? if jets get Derek Carr with that ferocious defense....

the QB here? don't buy into the rumormill, its Mac Jones

Carr isn't the answer for the jets

Has any team lost even close to the number of coaches to another franchise in recent years as the Patriots? To say it's getting annoying would be an understatement.
I'm sure there's plenty of movement with coaches around the league. They're a dime a dozen.

The more I look at the current Pats team the more I think the biggest loss has been Ernie Adams. Has anyone replaced him?

As I recall, there was a feeling that he wanted to go to LV and they blocked it. Bill didn’t want to put a guy in charge of Offense who would only be there a year …that certainly didn’t age well did it?
This misses that he wanted to go to Vegas because he wasn't getting a promotion in NE and would have stayed had he gotten the OC opportunity. Not too late, though. I suspect he's in the conversation for the OC position now, and a multi-year contract would lock him in place.

I'm pretty sure this is a clear indication that the Patriots shouldn't bring him back.

That would feel pretty painful to make a guy the OC in 2023 who was already on the staff in 2022 and could've been the OC already while we just struggled through such an inept offense all year.

It's certainly possible but I really get the feeling that they will want to get someone in with a lot of experience to fix this, even if that means there's a risk that that person isn't here forever (i.e. O'Brien).
