Player Signing Jeff Demps and a 7th round pick traded to Bucs for RB LeGarrette Blount

He's got 13 for his career. He is not the droid you're looking for.

No he's not, but he's a very unpredictable wild card in the mix with Ridley, Vereen, Leon Washington and Bolden.

There's a pattern here - one too many running backs, one too many tight ends, one too many quarterbacks, one too many wide receivers, one too many linebackers, etc, etc.

The quality of the depth is good, too, and this is before some street free agents and cut down guys appear. Your comment about the 5th WR still unknown resonates across a lot of positions.

This Patriots team may be the deepest since the 04-05 teams.

Hopefully BB can get Blount to act Corey Dillonish instead of acting Albert Haynesworthish. I don't mean Blount rushing for 1600 yards, though that would be nice. What I mean is, I hope BB can get Blount to act as respectful and motivated as Dillon was as a Patriot.

Just don't get it

Why waste a draft pick on a RB who's never going to beat out Bolden

Pick up OL depth or OL camp fodder

Never? He had 1K in his rookie year. He has just under 2K in three years and part of that decrease is down to Doug Martin being acquired.

He has every chance to beat Bolden out and he WILL make the team.

Anger management required.

Do the Patriots need a potential headache? They have enough on their plate..

Gee, that was 4 years ago when he was 20 years old, and the other player was yapping in his face after the game.

I like this kid alot, My understanding is that the sleeping is medical and not attitude.

Blount's hands are atrocious and his pass blocking is worse. If he's on the field in a pass situation, it's a win for the defense.

Why would the short yardage back be on the field in a passing situation?

If nothing else, this may help reduce Brady's QB sneaks, which have been very productive but always make me cringe.

And we don't know how Ridley is recovering from his concussion, do we? He may never be the same.

From what I can gather from Buc fans is that Blount is NOT the banger we would hope for based on his size. He is more of a dancer. He was never good at pushing the pile in Tampa. He was described as a guy who after ten 1-3 yd runs, rips off a highlight reel effort.

If he isn't a 240lb banger and pusher of the pile, then he he has no role here. I think Schiano and BB were just taking each other's problem child and NEITHER is likely to be on their respective 53 man rosters

BB probably threw in that 7th as a gift from providing him with all those Rutgers players.

Either that or he was thanking him for letting Steven wear the Rutgers Uniform.

Steven had already worn the Rutgers uniform for 4 years, except it was a Lacrosse jersey. I imagine his foray on to the football fields his 5th year was to see if he liked the game enough to get into the family business.

From what you can gather from all the interviews with the Rutgers players, he was highly thought of as guy who was very knowledgeable about the game. It was either Ryan or Harmon who commented in his first interview how Steve was always there with a helpful comment as he came off the field. So just maybe Steve really has BB's football gene.

You know some guys have the knack of seeing the whole field all at once. Me, I had to be a film grind. I have to look at specific parts of the field to see what's going on. So for me I would have to look at a play 5 or 6 times to really get a grasp at what was going on, while there are those gifted few who can see it just once or twice and know exactly what happened. It could be that Steve is one of those guys.

I remember watching this guy run and being really impressed, especially one TD run where he broke like 8 tackles. Hard to see him getting lots of carries barring injury to Ridley/Vereen and I really have no expectations for him, but considering we gave up next to nothing for him it's a solid move. IF he becomes the short yardage specialist we sorely lacked last year then it's a great move. At worst, like I said we pretty much gave up nothing for him, I'd imagine Demps attracted next to nothing elsewhere.

Oh he's a bruiser al right. At least from our perspective. He taken a back seat to newer rb's , but then TB coaching has been a joke for a number of years, and the plays and/ or personnel calls has been extremely suspect. I'd dare to say that the bucs might be one of the most talented teams, with so many top 1 picks, and good player signings, it's amazing to us that they do so poorly. Their coaching choices had been , well, horrible. You also have to take into account that they have never had a OL above #20 sence 2008 , and only made #13 last year because of the guard they got from us.
So not making the Bucs roster is far from being a bad thing, hehe. They completely stopped running him last year, big mistake.

After watching his highlights on You Tube all I can say if motivated the kid can play. If he shows up and acts like a D-bag he is gone and at no cost to the Pats. Well worth giving him a shot

Good examples.

I don't mind the trade. Still an upgrade over what we had. I'm just disappointed because I was excited to see what BB could do with the speed of a guy like Demps.

Been anticipating him being unleashed this season since the day we picked him up last year. Bummer.

The only reason BB should be applauded for this trade is because they got something for nothing....and Demps was the nothing. Demps clearly is operating under the assumption that 8th places in European track meets will be more lucrative than the tight wire act for players on roster bubbles. BB read the tea leaves and acted.
Now, BB has a serviceable back that offers depth and experience. My personal opinion on Blount.......Ron Daynesian speed and acceleration. My excitement for Blount is on par with my affection for Sammy Morris' skill set when with NE.
Camp fodder is too strong a term for a guy who has performed ok in the NFL, so I label him as depth and insurance and we'll see how healthy the NE RBs are coming out of preseason. I like Bodden a lot...but who knows how the unenhanced Bodden will perform.
As far as Blount goes.....Can rookie contracts get adjusted down? Paying a million dollar salary for a blemished bench back is unBelichickian (If you ignore Stinko, Haynesworth, etc)

IMO, Demps was irrelevant to this trade. Just a shiny object. The real trade (for both sides) was a 7th round pick for Blount.

I didn't want to dump Demps, but really like Blount's talent. He can be a true #1 RB that defenses have to gameplan for when he has his head on straight (which is almost never). Upside is worth the risk.
