Jason LaCanfora: Pats really want Higgins "He's going to New England"

It’s the worst idea I have seen in this forum in a long long time. I would want all of them fired if they did that.

Just go sign Antonio Brown, you get all the problems without giving up anything for him.
I would be livid and turn in my Pats fan card, until the start of the regular season.

I don’t understand, he’s instantly our best WR on the team, Vrabel the alpha sorts him out, then a first and a third for Oline talent and depth.

You’re dreaming. He was a problem at Georgia. He is a problem in Pittsburgh, but he will magically turn into a no problem guy here, The Patriots want to become a young up and coming team, and you want to waste their 4 on one of the biggest head cases in the league. As I said before it’s a HORRIBLE idea.

Right now I really trust the judgement of the people running the Patriots. If they made this move I would absolutely lose all faith that they know what they are doing, and I would then expect them to become the Jets, because that’s what a move like this screams. It’s beyond idiotic.

'Vrabel the alpha', whose introductory press press conference included his stated goal of eliminating entitlement from his roster? That Vrabel is going to willingly import a known entitled and problematic man child?

If we do that I then hope we trade for Jermaine Burton and bring AB on to be the assistant WR coach.

Not interested in more #2 WR's, we have too many. We don't need Randy Moss, but we do need someone who will draw double-teams often. Sending a speedster down deep is not good enough. The WR1 needs to be bracketed and open up opportunities for others to catch the football. We need someone who will be a clear #1 on our Patriots.
We have #2 receivers?

We have Pop Douglas who's a 3. Who else?

This sounds like an oxymoron. WR's who aren't elite aren't going to get double teamed.
Randy Moss, Corey Dillon, Rodney Harrison say hi. The 4th pick would be lunacy...agree. I get that I'm in the minority....but I would for a 3rd rounder.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. Randy was traded for a 4th rounder. Dillon for a 2nd and Harrison was a FA.

Or where you referring to taking a chance on them based on their character? Randy and Dillon had some issues, but I don't recall any issues with Harrison's character. He was just known as a dirty player.

Gotta chill, dude. It’s not 50-100x off like 34 for Fields a year ago, but it might legitimately still be somewhere around 10x off.
Difference in pick value is about 900. So that deal is like paying 18th overall straight up for Pickens to come infest the locker, flash a few times and shoot his way out of town.

We're 50-100x better off trading down to 18.

I hear ya and I get nobody is agreeing with my proposal but who can we get who has a higher ceiling than Pickens?

It was based on an article i read about him... maybe a change of scenery will do him good... who knows at this point

and quite frankly, I like Kupp better than Deebo. call it personal preference...as for age, one is 29, one is 32... when the 29 year old is in decline its more of a red flag to me

all things being equal, i'd take either at this point... i just think Kupp would try harder than Samuel

the article
You always have to look at the cost of the acquisition. Debo has been the more dynamic in the past. With both health will ultimately tell the story. I think the offensive fit or the role each might get tell us who, or either we go after.

Kupp always confounded me. He was a guy boardering on 4.6 yet always seemed to be open downfield behind defenders. I kept looking for mirrors on why he was always open.

I'm the end it comes down to age with Kupp. Is he going to effective enough long enough to make use of Mayes rookie contract years. And for Debo, I question weather he isn't also a bit past his prime, yet still looking for premium money plus a significant draft asset. That's why I'm looking at Slayton. Hiding in a bad offense waiting to blossom with the right qb and OC

The poster Zuma is referencing is proposing trading 4 overall for Pickens.

I like Slayton for the speedy receiver role since they don’t have anyone else on the roster who can do that. But I’d be disappointed if he’s the best this team can do at WR this offseason. Slayton has never put up big numbers, in college or the pros (he did have 8 TDs as a rookie but touchdowns aren’t a sticky statistic when it comes to future success considering his next best output was 4 TDs in 2023). Perhaps he can play the David Patten role here, but not much more than that.

I’m with you on being skeptic on Deebo. Despite the nickname it doesn’t seem that be takes good enough care of his body and he’s shown signs of wear. More of a gadget player than a true WR. I like Kupp a lot more for what this team needs, even if he’s only a short term option. Assuming the Pats don’t find a way to get Higgins, they’ll realistically need to hit on one of their draft picks in the coming years to find their WR of the future, because it’s just too hard to find an elite WR without paying a king’s ransom in draft picks and contract to do so. Elite WR1’s never make it to free agency while they’re still in their 20s, they’re extended or franchise tagged and inevitably traded and then extended.

I think some here have others muted and therefore don't always see the context of the conversation or they are too lazy to go back and look.
