Jason LaCanfora: Pats really want Higgins "He's going to New England"

While I agree, this board was divided when Antonio Brown signed with the Pats and especially during his legal troubles.
I didn't want him on the team until I was at the only game he played in against Miami. I was sold.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Get Deebo for relatively low trade capital and sign Slayton and Westbrook-Ikhine to shore up the room. Consider the WR room "done" for the time being, but keep an eye on the Higgins situation in case he pops loose, as well as other potential WR situations. Put bigger focus on acquisitions at OL, DL, LB, DB.
What the offense needs is to become efficient. Sustainable drives, scoring in the red zone.. effectively running the ball.. adding Deebo, slayton and say Christian kirk would help upgrade the position. I think Cincy is tagging him to work out a long term deal.

I'm 100% convinced had we kept AB that season we'd win another SB..

I guess I have much more faith in Vrabel laying the law down then you do. If you haven't noticed, he's pretty hard -nosed coach He's not going to be taking **** from anyone...not even AJ Brown types The days of the Krafty choir boys are over thank god. Time to start winning again.
It's a player's game someone once said. It's up to the players. Vrabel can lay down the law but the players are the ones who police it.

Not so sure myself. But yeah, we would have probably had enough to beat Tennessee in the wild card round. And if they called N'Keal Harry's TD good vs. the Chiefs...thereby giving us a first round BYE that year...or the Pats D doesn't allow Fitz to drive 75 yards for the go ahead TD in week 17....

Tough season.....

It always felt like the defense was going to let you down when you needed it most. I don't think we were good enough to win the SB that year.

The TD was good I remember the NFL after the fact saying it should have been allowed.. same thing with 2007 AFCCG calling the PI on Hobbs then saying it shouldn't have been called.. the Miami loss in 2019 was more alarming.. but on AB watching the seamless connection with brady after what 1 week.of practice was just a small sample of what could have been..

That was a tale of two seasons...

1st 1/2- 8-0 31ppg scored, 8ppg allowed, 27 turnovers forced

2nd 1/2- 4-5 20ppg scored, 20ppg allowed, 10 turnovers forced (5 in one game vs CIN)

I think the D got tired but ultimately injuries to the line, at RB, and to JE11 doomed them. Plus Tom checked out.

I don't know about another Super Bowl, but they absolutely would've been the #2 seed. Also, the Ravens would've been a bad matchup. Even with Brown, they were still lacking at WR as Edelman by himself wasn't enough. They literally had no capable TE's.

I know Edelman and White are fan favorites here, but they got exposed in 2019 when the offense had to feature them. They were always better as sidekicks.

That's all of it right there. That team would have gone as far as Tom would take them. He was done. It happens.
Yep. He totally checked out and him visiting Ross on his boat prior to the season shows he was disgruntled. He was pissed at his contract. He was pissed that good players like Gronk left. He was pissed AB got cut. He was pissed JE11 was hurting. He was pissed the line was crap. He was done w/ BB. I get it.

You make a good point that 2019 Ravens team was a bad match up for us.. and don't forget Josh Gordon went on hiatus as well. So Edelman on one knee, N'Keal, sanu and Myers as well as brown.

And not to be circular, Tom was done when AB got cut.
I think @RobertWeathers covers it. I think his frustrations built and built and built until it was too much. It wasn't one thing. It was Malcom Butler getting benched. It was Bill being a hardass, while Tom's people told him he didn't need to take his chit anymore. It was fighting with the league, winning in Atlanta, with a cherry on top with the Rams win, only to have them cut AB when he maybe he thought there was one more run in them, throwing up his hands and saying enough.

Another thing was Bill banishing Guerrero in 2017. That really set him off. He made Tom and other players get treatments outside of the team facilities.

Who can forget the documentary produced by Tom which showed Guerrero providing treatment for him in a luxury suite....

Can't see them affording to pay for all 3 of those WR considering the suck tax upcharge the Pats would have to pay to convince them to come here, and that's considering there are still a ton of other positions to account for. The Pats still have four young, cost-controlled WR's on the roster from the last two draft classes. There's also Bourne but I wouldn't be surprised if he's a cut and replaced by someone in free agency. Still have Douglas and Boutte through 2026. Polk will get another chance to prove himself given the high draft capital used on him (37th overall pick). Those three are safe IMO. Baker is someone who I think is on thin ice, he showed nothing last season and couldn't get on the field on a team in desperate need for someone to step up in the WR room. They only used a 4th rounder on him and is more expendable. Really makes trading out of the McConkey pick look worse in hindsight. Slayton I can see coming here, and maybe one other veteran but that's it. Three is only happening if you're playing Madden and turn the cap off.

I don't think Sanu is traded for had they kept Brown (at least not for a 2nd). Gordon pulled the same stunt he did in 2018. I was against Bill brining him back in 2019 after him leaving the team like he did the previous year.

I don't doubt that. AB had more yards and receiving touchdowns then anyone else on the Pats that lone day. The team was hurting for offense big time.
