Problem is you can't force another team to trade with you on draft night either. If they can't get a trade down partner I may be more inclined to just draft a WR at 14. Maybe Cincy will take a 3rd + next year's 1st.
yup, it all depends on the other teams needs

I was looking at some of the draft revisits and they have pegged our 2022 draft class as underwhelming with D grade around the mid 20s .

Do we tend to overvalue our drafts as compared to other teams or is it a case of draftniks undervaluing us .

Is our 2022 draft looked down more so because of on field performance which was okay and not too spectacular and faltered down the stretch.

Would this year be the year where we evaluate the draft as a whole.

2019 draft might end up being a draft where we don't have a single player left if Meyers leaves in Free agency. Possibly our worst draft in last decade.

When your best draft pick is a special teamer and maybe an eventual slot CB, you didn't have that good of a draft.

And he wasn't even drafted. Not possibly, IS.

2022 will forever be dumped on because they took Cole Strange in the 1st and then Sean McVay laughed about it on camera. It is what it is. Even if Strange develops into a really good player he'll forever be considered a "reach" because McVay said so.

Edit: I realize my post makes it sound like I personally feel this way - I don't - I am saying this will be the media's narrative about this class forever. I think Strange is fine, the media "reach" narrative is way overblown.

Grades like that are just a game of what you’re willing to excuse in terms of injury, adjusting to the NFL, or having a better player ahead of them, and what is actually predictive of future success. When a draftnik doesn’t like the picks in the first place, they’re not going to give the benefit of the doubt.

Take the recent NFL.com rankings that had the Patriots at 24, for example. It doesn’t matter that the Eagles’ 5 draft picks combined for 7 starts and only 538 non-ST snaps (compared to, for example, 9 and 529 from Thornton alone). It doesn’t matter that the 13th overall pick lost his starting job to a $2M midseason free agent signing. The author liked Jordan Davis, so he blames everything on his injury. The Eagles were ranked 22nd.

I could see sense in moving on from Parker as well to save $6M in cap space if they can find a suitable replacement via trade such as Hopkins. Otherwise standing pat is most sensible, though Meyers needs a deal. I think they’ll need to draft WR again as well within the early rounds.

We saw Meyers and Bourne make a little magic at times as a duo in 2021 with McDaniels so there are reasons to be optimistic that they can do it again with Parker also in the mix as the main target and hopefully a second year leap from Thornton too.
With the WR market being this crazy, I don't think you could even sign a replacement for Parker's slot for 'just' 6m dollars so I find it hard to see cutting us providing any 'real' cap savings. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan of him so far. He's only made a few nice plays here and there, but what better choice do we have?

I still feel strange is okay.. we added a ton of depth which might help us more in 2024 than 2023 . Thornton is the one I am more worried about. We just have the knack of drafting busts at an alarming rate in wide receivers or we are jinxed for eternity drafting anyone early in first 4 rounds. If Thornton fails , I doubt pats draft a wr highly while bill is still around . This year being a deep TE class , let's see if they can draft baby Gronk in second round .

Jack many moons ago Julian Edelman was a FA who had a visit with the NY Giants. How he left there without a FA contact is a miracle to me. Danny A was making more $$$$ than Edelman who was clearly the better WR: who resigned for peanuts. I can't see BB giving Meyers $15 Mill market rate or not! Better WR's will be available in FA 2024.
Sure, let's piss away another season of Mac's rookie contract. Why not?

I edited my post to state I was talking about the media narrative, not my personal opinion. I realized I wasn't really clear.

Reiss speculating that J will command 15-20M pet year and that he feels like J is pricing himself out of NE.

Good player, but while I realize he brings something to the team, he isn’t worth that. I’d be fine letting him walk for those dollars.

At some level I’m curious what the offense looks like if they just run it back with Parker as the number 1, Meyers as the 2, Bourne as the 3 and Thornton rotating in but with a real OC this time. It’s not a bad group… Parker is a weak 1 but he flashed periodically, he just needs to stay healthy.

Saying Parker is our #1 is like saying Mondesi is a good Red Sox replacement for Bogarts with the redsox at SS.

If they can’t be depended on to even play, they sure can’t be depended on to help you win.

If that’s the case, I will take the comp pick & thank him & wish him the best.

Good post: some fans are so knee jerk in FA not looking at the Big picture: Lets say Meyers was a FA in 2024 would anybody here want Meyers over say Jerry Jeudy - Tee Higgins - Brandon Aiyuk and Michael Pittman?? I wouldn't they are all superior to him. Facts this is a very weak WR FA Class if Meyers is close to the Top buyer beware... what a difference a year makes 2024 will be Great year for FA WR's not 2023.
Putting aside everything else in this thread, it is kinda hilarious to see you calling out other fans for knee-jerk (or emotional/instinctive/poorly thought out) reactions to things regarding the team. lol.

I'll do 20M a year if it's for like 5 years with bigger salaries and cap hits more towards the later years and with lower guarantees so he's really gotta earn that pay rate. I'd ideally rather ink him to a nice 3 year, 13M-per-year deal with high guaranteed value.

Parker may have more value in a BoB offense, if we use TEs as (possibly) anticipated in the seam. For his cost, he's worth keeping around. His constant time on the injury report is the bigger issue, but even so, there's value for the money.

Putting aside everything else in this thread, good lord is it rich to hear YOU, of all people, calling out other fans for knee-jerk (or emotional/instinctive/poorly thought out) reactions to things regarding the team. lol.
You're a blind Homer take those rose colored sun glasses off you'll see clearer.

Higgins or the like seems a "final piece." We are not close enough to trade precious draft picks. Another year of two of upgrading young talent. And then bring in big guns

You are truly the biggest idiot and embarrassment this site has ever seen
