8.5 sacks is 8.5 sacks. that is considered a successful season by itself. if milton williams was playing he'd probably have more, the o-line would have to provide help to block williams
Landry averages about 8.5 sacks per season.. I believe what PF2 is getting at is the effectiveness and the edge pressure..

He's been a good pickup, but I wouldn't overstate it. He has to play the vast majority of the downs so 8.5 sacks in many many opportunities. He'd be far more effective in a good rotation but we just don't have the depth - can thank the previous regimes for leaving the cupboard bare there.

Chiasson is even more clear an example - he should be a situational pass rusher, not an every-down player.

We badly need another starting-caliber edge player and at least 1-2 more bodies to rotate on top of that. As solid as Will Campbell has been, sometimes I do wonder if Abdul Carter long-term would have been better had we had the opportunity, behavioral issues notwithstanding. I doubt he'd have those behavioral issues on this team and from a pressure creation standpoint he has been very good. At the end of the day I'm still glad we have Campbell but it's not as much as slam dunk as it would seem on paper, esp. as Verdarian Lowe has been really solid in relief this year and there's a reason why he looked so bad last year (bad scheme + undisclosed serious injury). Premium pass rushers are just really hard to find anywhere other than top of the draft, while solid left tackles can sometimes be found lower (but it's more random the lower you go).

We should have pulled the trigger on Jaelan Phillips.
Depends on your perspective.
Phillips disappears a lot, and is hurt a lot. Can you get his production going forward from a top-100 pick you have under control for the next 4 years for cheap?

I'm going to support Vrabel not panicking and deciding to keep and accumulate draft capital to build the team going forward until he ****s it up.

Fortunately Vrabel has had plenty to see in the organization of how not to **** it up.. Vrabel knows how to hit the right levers on players that fit the culture and the process.. IMO

Having a terrible red zone defense will be our downfall in the playoffs.
I am just shocked that after 14 games we still havent improved from 100% efficiency in the RZ for opponents. I have no idea of the scheme but the pats teams of the past, barring the last 5 yrs mybe, would at least try something to fix such a glaring and obvious issue. Its my small peeve with vrabel. He sarcastically criticizes the offense at times for playcalls etc but never reallyhas shown enough urgency to fix the RZ D.

Hey. are defensive red zone efficiency is 75%, not 100%. But, yes, this is the worst in the NFL.

We are pretty average at 58% in away games.

For those who beg for home games, our at home redzone efficiency is 83.3%.

They have had adversity.. I totally get what your saying but they have experienced it.. the team could have totally caved in had that gone 2-3 to start the season..but the Buffalo game week 5 propelled them to a 10 game winning streak.. they have had in-game adversity and we're able to pull it out...
Bengals, Falcons, browns, bucs, saints , they had struggles in those games and pushed through to win..
Pulling it together against bad teams isn’t the same as figuring out how to pick yourself up and deliver that knockout punch to a really good team that is trying to do the same to you.

For our second dynasty run even the great players we drafted in 2010 and 2012 needed to feel that disappointment of not knowing what it takes to rise to the occasion.

This team bears a lot of similarities to the Patriots 2010 team that felt invincible and then flubbed in the moment.

This team had to learn how to win first and foremost all those all things will come as they continue thier rise..

Yes don't remind me.. that 2010 team was awesome during the regular season..
Lost in the divisional at home.

It has worked out so far. A lot of expensive FA's that made noise on the market that we "missed" ended up being bunk. The premium for in-season trades is almost always way too much. We'll go into next year with more money and more opportunity. Take what you're given. Plus those price tags go down a little bit when your team shows promise.

Not sure why they should trade a 3rd round pick for a guy when the Pats have slightly better production already in Chaisson on the cheap. He has 6.5 sacks, 8 tackles for loss and 15 QB hits to Phillips 4 sacks, 6 tackles for loss and 14 QB hits. Also, he's had nagging injuries since his 3rd season.

Look for Vrabel to "burn some cash" again this off-season.

Could be, if i wasn't so lazy i'd try and find out if landrys sacks and pressures went down after tonga and williams went down. With those two being out (especially williams) the opposing offensive line can focus on stoping the edge rushers.

It was, in fact, quite the Opposite. This front orifice was a... Seller... when the trade deadline ended. A mother-****ing SELLER.
Well I wonder who was wolf's supplier... because they got a bad bag of weed.. for a disgruntled white and beat up Dugger

Yes. They were. What does that tell you about the head coaches feelings about the team?

Alot of the production was earlier in the season.. Landry did sustain an injury during the saints game.. he's been hampered by injury all season..

Well supposedly Barmore is having a great season I'm told so shouldn't he be able to help offset the loss of Williams?

A washed, injured safety.. and a disgruntled DE that thinks he's better than what he really is.. that didn't want to buy in..

The team is part - maybe half - way through a rebuild. The older players on D - the free agents and so on - will have to be replaced as part of that rebuild. They are running down a little. Nothing unexpected about that: just a fact. The team has little depth on either side of the ball. When you begin your rebuild from as low a point as this team did, that's gonna happen. The team has made excellent progress, but this will take at least an other year.

The team is not at the level of a Super Bowl contender on either side of the ball, and there is nothing wrong or blameworthy about that. We are ahead of the curve, doing well.

If Vrabel can rein in his inclination to be such an ******* (a self-acknowledged *******, n.b.), so that Josh remains willing to stick around, we'll be fine coachingwise on that side of the ball. Who will serve as DC is, I think, legitimately up in the air at this point.

I wouldn't mind seeing Buffalo get their ring this year. It's been painful to see their disappointments over so many years, and I'd like to see them get their moment in the sun before we take over again in a year or so.
