Interesting development on the Jimmy G front

Even if Bridgewater is a 17million cap hit. With guys needing to be paid are the niners going to tie $45million of their cap to 2 quarterbacks? One that will sit on the bench?
Neither of which are all that special to begin with.

The 49ers are loaded with talent. Assuming everyone comes back healthy for them outside of the QB spot, they don't need a special QB to win a SB. If JAG hadn't wet himself in 2019, SF probably would have won that SB.

I honestly think thats why they are even looking at bridgewater. If Jimmy G gets injured again, then there's another year wasted of all their talent.

maybe in their mind, at least Bridgewater can stay on the field. And he did throw 9 tds to 2 interceptions with the saints the previous year. So if he has a solid team around him, the guy can play. Hes just not a QB who can take subpar talent/coaching and make a team better

Jimmy s*** the bed, but Shanahan also called some really bad plays in that Super Bowl as he once again abandoned the run late in the game to throw. As far as their talent goes, they have issues in the secondary which they continue to ignore. McGlinchey has regressed badly and they are weak in the middle of the OL. RB's are scheme dependent. WR's are always banged up and Samuel's kamikaze style of play will cut his career short. That's just to name a few things. They definitely have some talent, but they aren't loaded.

Bingo. I do not believe Lynch and Shanahan want to risk another year with Jimmy as the division will be tough. I think they will try everything they can to upgrade the position before settling with Jimmy. Lynch has already come out and admitted passing on Mahomes keeps him up at night. They also passed on Watson who was the safer pick, but took mega bust Soloman Thomas. They had a chance to sign the GOAT, but passed. Although they signed extensions, I think Shanahan and Lynch are starting to sweat.

Then our best play might be wait for them to get Bridgewater or whoever, then they'll want to unload Jimmy. We focus on Defense Front 7 first and sit back on QB as the league unfolds.

Problem is, if the Niners don't find anyone and settle on Jimmy you are stuck holding the bag. We need to grab someone in free agency.

I mean, missing games in 3 out of 4 years isn't a good sign. Many of those hits were routine hits brady has taken.

He's, only played 1 full season.

So if Jimmy G is their plan A, have they called asking about a trade? Or are they just sitting there with their hands in their pockets hoping he becomes available?

It's like a dude waiting out a marriage.
I’m thinking of the Seinfeld episode.

Mitch is the most Attractive ball of clay.

Those Dumbass had Brady gift wrapped to them and chose Jimmy and are now interested in any qb living

If the 49ers are keeping Jimmy Cassel, then why are they not restructuring his contract turning his salary into signing bonus so it could be spread out? Presently, cutting overated, injury prone game manager Jimmy would hardly ding SFs cap. Jimmy Garoppolo

They are not because they are bluffing. Restructuring places SF on the hook for more dead money when Jimmy Cassel is down the road this year. SF has spent and seen enough of this guy.

After Cassel is cut, BB will get fleeced on a bloated contract signing his boy back up to prove Kraft wrong. Jimmy has 7- 4th quarter comebacks to his name. Cant Newton had 3 - 4th quarter comebacks last year. Cassel is not a winner and not clutch. Youll see.

Is this guy available?

Assuming the 5000 players they had on IR return at or near full talent, the 49ers will likely be the favorite or 2nd favorite to win that division. I think you're missing the impact of all those missed players. Remember the injury report:

Yes, they're loaded, and they're drafting at 12 in a year where elite type prospects are being looked at as possibly falling to 15 or more, too.

Aside from the rare 2019, the 49ers are ALWAYS injured. I agree that if they return to full health, they could compete for the division title. However, we disagree on how much talent the have. Unless the pick is traded in a package for a QB, I see them getting the best CB available.

Jason Fitzgerald (Over The Cap) proposes a 3rd round pick and a pay cut to $14M. Mike Tannenbaum (former Jets GM) says a 4th and a new two-year contract with plenty of incentives.
I agree with Tannenbaum here (that feels gross to say). Letting Jimmy keep the contract value but convert it into incentives means he still gets it if he stays healthy. And while I'm no Miguel, I think that those incentives would be NLTBE since he missed so much time last year, so it would keep the 2021 cap hit low and allow them to make a free agency splash. Say they give him a $10m base salary with $14m in incentives - his cap hit in 2021 would only be $10m assuming all incentives are NLTB (as I understand that process anyway).

New rumor is that Bill may wait for Jimmy G to get released.
